I've been getting these too. I use Sync.Me. When someone calls, it opens a popup that also shows if other people reported it as spam. You have an option to block the number from the popup. Every time the number calls again, it'll auto block it. There's probably other apps that do this, I just like sync.me because it auto updates your contact pictures with social media accounts.

Try Sync.ME. I use it on my 6p and you can sync almost all of your social media accounts to your contacts, including pictures. It also has a caller ID feature, but I find it annoying. Fortunately you can just disable it and only use the app for the contact sync features only.

I use the app called Sync.Me to get all my contacts' photos from Facebook / Instagram / Google+ or Twitter. It's quite handy tbh.

EDIT: disable the Caller ID in the settings though, that's pretty annoying

I use Sync.Me it allows my to sync all my contact photos with the social media account of my choice, while also being a great Caller ID app so that i can see what numbers have been reported as spam, and allow me to report my own spam numbers and block them.

I've had success with Sync Me syncing from Facebook profiles weekly (or however often you want). It originally didn't have caller ID, and I find the caller ID annoying, so I turn it off, as well as disable the notifications it sends. Don't use it if you're concerned about privacy, though, as I'm pretty sure it adds you and your contact photo to its caller ID system.

Setting up my new Pixel last week, I used Sync.Me to update my phone's contact photos. Essentially, it reads the names of your existing contacts, compares them to your facebook friends, and matches up profile pictures. Is this what you're looking for?

You could use the Sync.ME app. It gives you caller ID, allows you to sync your contacts with your social media accounts to keep info updated, and allows you to block calls and texts from numbers that you specify.

Sync.Me app does that. It doesn't exactly satisfy your need. But it reminds every morning of the birthdays on that day. It extracts data from Facebook. But I'm not sure it helps to add them in your contacts.

I've been using Sync.ME for a couple years. Works very well. Just disable the caller id feature(unless you want it)

Also running, N6 5.1.1, so can also say it works for that for sure. :)

I had the same troubles with syncing Facebook contacts when I first got the phone in November. Ever since, I've used Sync.Me, and it's worked out great for me.

Other than that, the phone's worked out very well.

What if you remove the contact and restore it?

If on Facebook app, then it's by Facebook... Check the settings of the app or something. You could just visit the website instead if you insist...

If it's about the contacts of the device (address book), there are some apps to sync them nicely with them, such as SyncMe. If you have a rooted device, you can also get the photos from WhatsApp, using this app.

For some reason I can't reach your link. On which apps have you seen it? I think it's very rare.

Anyway, I think apps that have a splash screen as an Activity/Fragment will have this issue. That's why it's so rare.

And sadly Android can't fix it in any way, unless perhaps it would auto-add splash screen only when targeting API 31 (which means the developer was ready for this change).

What's still is an issue though is that in some apps, the splash screen that Android generated appears twice. Example is this app:

There are even apps to help you do it, using their social networks:

Contacts Sync - from WhatsApp, but requires a rooted device.

I like seeing the photo of the people I call or having calls from, so there are 2 apps for this:

I've been using this app to block suspicious calls and you can set it to automatically block suspicious numbers.

Try to delete the photo, cause the contacts to sync with Google account, and upload it again.

If you want, you can also use some apps that sync the photos for you into the address book, from various social networks:

SyncMe - gets from various social networks, but sadly won't put the photos into Google account. Only as additional data to the address book. However, it provides caller-ID solution that could show photos of the unknown callers, as opposed to most (or all?) other caller-ID apps, and some other features.
Contacts Sync - requires root, but gets the photos from WhatsApp.

There are many apps that do it. Search for "callerID" and they most likely have this feature.

I know of SyncMe and TrueCaller, for example.

I remember a very long time ago that I had such an app, because I wanted to try out contact-syncing apps (such as SyncMe and Contacts Sync), to see how well they work.

I even remember that since it was a bit slow (took a few seconds), I made something myself.Can't find those anymore. No idea why I can't find on the Play Store, and will take a huge time to browse over the previously installed apps list on the Play Store.

So as a workaround, maybe try to export the contacts to a file, then delete them all, and then restore using this file?The reason: Exporting to a file usually don't include the photos of the contacts.

If this doesn't help, try SyncMe and do the same steps there. I remember it doesn't save the photos (because it already has a syncing feature).

Just tried it but it's not working for me. I'd rather solve the issue with Samsung's calendar as it's the one used by Launcher 10 and the widget perfectly fits my layout.

The lock button is quite difficult to reach with my thumb, that why I'd like the double-tap to sleep on the soft touch buttons. Does the AOD use much battery? It's the first thing I disabled.

I'm already using IFFT actually, but I don't see an option to deal with mobile data. It seems like that root is needed to turn mobile data off. Does Tasker have a Play Store demo? I'd like to avoid manually installing APKs.

The contact sync feature from Facebook was torn out awhile back for some unknown reason. I too miss that deep integration that WP had.

Best I've found has been Sync.Me. Link up your Facebook and Twitter profiles, and let 'er buck. Pretty stable and great app I've found.

SnycMe has a "Spam" list in which you can add numbers you wish to block. In addition you can sync all your contacts with the web and it will automatically uses their social network profile picture against the contact. The same as Android used to do with facebook. TBH it's pretty freaky sometimes in that I was talking to someone I had never met in the pub, took their number and when I added it, it automatically populated their name and photo.

Try using Sync.Me. Great app and work with all social media so you can choose which picture you want to use for your contact. It also has an annoying caller ID feature, but you can just disable it and use it for photo sync only.

Sync.me is pretty good for that. It also syncs up peoples Facebook pictures and details to their contact number which is handy. I think they do it for twitter and instagram now too.

There are plenty of apps to block phone numbers (including "private numbers" AKA "unknown numbers").

SyncMe or Caller ID (very similar apps)- also shows associated social networks and photos if possible. The "SyncMe" app just allows to also sync your contacts to the social networks, having photos of them during phone calls.
Drupe - An app that focuses on how to contact the people on your address book. Has the option to replace the Phone UI too.
Calls AI - more for business, but could still be useful for normal users.
ACR phone - focuses on replacing the Phone app itself.

The only downside is that it comes (at least used tol) with a bit of bloat.

If you don't have a phone app that allows it, you can use various apps that do. Example is SyncMe or TrueCaller which also tell you who has called.

Sync.Me is more about contacts. TrueCaller is more for the huge DB of who's who.

Both have the feature you want.

Why would you consider this something that helps privacy ? Apps can still access files like before, using just a different API and a different request from the user. Why apps have full access to files? Because you choose to grant it to them. If you choose not to grant it, they won't access the files. Starting from Kitkat, apps don't even need the storage permission if all they need is to have some files of their own (which will be removed upon app-uninstall).The only possible good thing from this is the potential of less junk files that accumulate over time by apps that weren't built well, that put files of their own on random places, as those won't be removed when you remove the apps. Why this is a potential? Because I see many games that still request this permission even though they don't need it anymore (see above what I wrote about Kitkat), and since the permission gets restricted, it might cause less files to be written to the storage by such apps.
You aren't supposed to copy passwords to clipboard if you really care about them. Ever. Not on Android and not on PC. If you ever did it on Android, know that other apps could have used it. If you do this on Q too, this restriction doesn't protect you. The moment you open any app that this restriction doesn't apply to, it has access to whatever that you wrote. If you want passwords to be saved, you have auto-filling services (such as of Google) and on web browsers they have their own password saving services (and addons sometimes).So again, doesn't provide anything good for privacy.
The way they should have done it, is to add a real permission for apps to access the clipboard. One that requires the user to accept this kind of behavior.
You are mixing a lot of terms here. Where do you see "floating windows" on the developer options? If you see this, it's most probably not what I'm talking about . What I talk about is apps like callerID apps (such as SyncMe and TrueCaller and many others), and various other apps that can float (such as floating calculator apps) , and even very original usages of this permission which make Android UI cool for some users (I don't use them personally, but I admire the huge effort that developers put into this).
It's faster, but it's not looking better. As I've written, users can't assume anything about the order and number of items, they can't pin the items, and in general it's a chaotic behavior. Sometimes it even shows no items at all to share to.
Sadly it doesn't seem now that they did it by mistake. It's a checkbox. Existed before, and now gone. An accident?
Call recording is not illegal and it's already a built in feature on various devices. Google even says it's considering adding it only on Android R (or later), in one way or another (link here). As for the law, it depends on which country you live in. In many countries (as in my country) the law says that if at least one person of the phone call knows the call is recorded, it's ok. It's a very basic right for many and you can visit the link I've provided on the thread to read various users tell their own story of how call recording help with their lives.
How is it related to battery optimizations? Connecting to Wifi networks is usually better than using the mobile data. As for privacy, well, they could have made the OS ask the user if it's ok to add the networks (including a viewer of their information). The new API doesn't add to privacy, though, as the user gets a notification (and for some reason a few seconds after it was "suggested") telling if it's ok, and the networks get added, without telling him anything special.Speaking of adding Wifi networks, the new API doesn't let you add WEP based networks, but still allows (at least that's what I see, as it's still hard to know on a new API that's barely documented) to add open networks (no password). This is actually worse for privacy...
I guess it can still be better over time. I just don't see how, because they follow a very narrow path in allowing this.

Not that currently this app requires to stay being installed as long as you wish the contacts to be synced, because it only adds the information (and make it the primary one), and not replaces what you have. This has advantages (in case of bugs, won't mess with your contacts and you can remove the app) and disadvantages (changes won't affect Google account so you can't see them on PC, for example). The app has plenty of contacts/phone related features though.
