There are apps for that. Here's one for video:

And one for photos: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.pawelbialecki.a365photoapp&hl=en
I use the video one, but not the photo one. Not endorsing anything, just saying there are apps to help remind you.
I haven't done it with photos but throughout 2019 I've been using an app called 1 second everyday and capturing 1 second of video each day. Every month I re-watch that whole month and I'm excited to watch my entire year on New Year's! Some of my seconds are boring as fuck but in the context of the whole video it works.
My guess would be that it would be even easier with photos than video, because you don't need to look out for interesting movement necessarily. I think it sounds like a cool project!
This is the one I'm using, it does seem to be legit, I guess they're just not charging on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.touchlab.android.onesecondeveryday&hl=en_GB&referrer=utm_source%3Dgoogle%26utm_medium%3Dorganic%26utm_term%3Dapp+store+1+second+everyday&pcampaignid=APPU_1_hlS-WtrRFpm9gAaZ74q4Cg
I used 1 Second Everyday for Android. I also use Google Photos and it's super easy to choose my daily video from the photos and quick videos I take. You can also choose videos from another day if you miss or skip a day. We did a bunch of stuff on Sunday so I used one of the video clips on Monday.

Instead of a slideshow, would a video work?

1 second a day:
An app that lets you record a 1 second video each day and then compiles all the days into one video. Also reminds you each day.
This was apparently once available for Windows Phone but was discontinued and is no longer available.
Thanks! Although I'm not sure how to find this thread and stop it going into obscurity so I will most likely create a new thread :) Drop me a PM and I'll link it to you when it's up!
I used this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.touchlab.android.onesecondeveryday&hl=en
Tips: Film Landscape (I didn't for nearly 2 months) oops!
But most importantly, be honest and don't make film something for entertainment. Had a duvet day? Film it. Been ill? Film it (I did, not a pretty sight). You get the idea, but just go for it! One Second a Day, how hard can it be? :P
Are you using the new app or the old one? if you are using the new one it will not be able to pull the videos made with the old app so try installing the old one and then see if it works.

I freaking love this app. I started using it December 2015, which means I've just wrapped up my first solid year.
Essentially its a video journal. You take a video every day, and using the app, you select a single second of each day's video. After a month ( or whenever, you're the boss) you 'mash' your seconds together to make a wee movie. 30 seconds a month. 6 minutes per year.
It's such a good way of remembering what you've been up to. I, like everyone else, felt like 2016 flew past. I felt like I hadn't accomplished a single thing. But looking back at my month to months, I can see how much cool shit I've actually done. And when I compiled the whole year I was reminded of so many little incidental details.
It's available on Android for free ( but updates are few and far between) or like $4 or something on apple, but updated with cool new shit all the time. I use the android version, and they've just had a pretty big update in January there.
I've seen some of these videos before and thought that it would a great opportunity to make one for our puppy growing up. Some days were missed whether from forgetfulness or vacation but most days are accounted for. I plan on continuing to do this for the foreseeable future. Hope you all enjoy!
Also, for those curious, this video was made by use of the app "1 Second Everyday"
I've wanted to keep a journal but could never dedicate the time and found my writing was basically just a list resembling a formal itinerary - nothing teribly interesting.
But starting just over a year ago I've started a digital journal of sorts. It's an app called 1 second everyday - the premise is simple, you take a 1 second video every single day.
Now I can look back and much more easily recall what I did a year ago today, which memorable events happened in what order, and just see brief snippits of cool things I did or places I went a while ago. Im hoping to keep with it for many years so I can look back at a decades worth of days, 1 Second each, all in a 10 min video.
I recommend people try it, and if there is enough interest I'll even upload my video for the past year.
Here's the app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.touchlab.android.onesecondeveryday
Maybe OP used an app like this?
So it all started when I watched this TED video by Cesar Kuriyama video by and he crowdfunded to make an app, here's the link for Apple Phones and Android Phones, I like using the App because I don't do video editing anymore and the app makes it easier but there are a few things I wish the app had.
1 Second Everyday doesn't quite, but it lets you easily trim down the clip to the length you want.
I'm going to let you in on a little secret, I actually used an app :P https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.touchlab.android.onesecondeveryday&hl=en

If you want a good video you gotta get out.
My phone is a Lumia 735, works just fine.
I have an android phone, have no idea if all of these are on apple too, but here goes:
~~Edit: I can't seem to get the links to work :(. Help?~~
