Battlestation: Harbinger (Google Play)(Apple App Store)
If you're on the look out for something FTL-like, try Battlevoid Harbinger. Currently has 75% off, and I've had tonnes of replay value from it.
Besides Battlestation: Harbinger this is one of the most difficult games I've played on Android.
Both use semi-randomly-generated maps and both are about space exploration. So I guess it's just that space exploration is a hard thing and these games are being fair to their theme.
> EDIT: I wish there was an android tablet version. I would be on that like flies on shit.
Actually there's a pretty similar game on Android called Battlevoid: Harbinger. It's a rogue-like in space where you upgrade your ship, weapons, shields, drones, etc. It's 75% off right now, but you could always buy it, try it for like 10 minutes and refund it if you don't like it.
I'll say it's not as good as FTL, but if you're really into the genre it's one of the better ones you'll find on Android.
Currently playing Battlestation: Harbinger (which is 50% off now on Play Store). I really liked it, it's a space opera where you have a spaceship (you can have up to three ships together as a fleet) and fight your way through a randomly-generated star map. It's cool, I like the freedom you get in choosing your strategy and upgrading your ships. Also the space battles look good!
Dev says there will be a "huge" content upgrade in a couple months.
Does anybody knows good RTS game (like in good old times, Constructor, settlers, C&C) with no need of every day logging just for causal gaming?
Thanks to you I have already bought Battlestation: Harbinger it is generaly ok, but there is just few weapon upgrades and story is poor.
Thats a cool list!
Harbinger should be added, its like a smaller pc quality game. Not as huge as some listed here but pretty solid.
My favourites tend to be as you describe, playable in short bursts and so can be put down and picked up whenever. We'll ignore my ongoing and somewhat surprising obsession with pubg mobile.
Try any of the following, they play well in short bursts and generally dont dick you about if you have to close your screen for a couple of hours.
linkme: data wing, frozen synapse, harbinger, king oddball, xcom : ew
I see Pixel Dungeon has already been mentioned, it's about as perfect a put down/pick up game as you can get. I definitely recommend Shattered Pixel Dungeon over the original though, Shattered keeps the enjoyment and add's load of extra content with out the anti-fun additions of the original.
Edit: wrong harbinger...

That one
Frozen synapse is wicked, if you like that you might enjoy doorkickers too.
Also note it's linked the wrong harbinger, use this link

Battlevoid: Harbinger is about as close as I have come to an ftl like game on Android. It lacks in some spots like lack of random story elements, but it has a decent rng quality to it that it will make the repetitive story not seem so bad. I've also found Battlevoid: Sector Siege pretty entertaining as well, but again lacking in story elements. I would definitely suggest playing normal to hard for a much more challenging time.
Harbinger is pretty decent gameplay wise. However, it entirely lacks a story. (space RTS)
Linkme: Battlevoid Harbinger
edit: Linked it myself cause the bot won't do it for some reason.
Dumb question: Any reason in particular the trailer on Google Play is using a mouse pointer? I mean, that's not the PC version, is it?

The mobile games I've played to any great degree don't have such a thing. And I do play some mobile games. Just curious.
Yeah, it's English. Maybe other languages too, but I played a 100% English version.
Looks like the above link has a Brazil country code at the end.

Not sure on the spec requirements, I run a little overkill so I haven't worried about it. Steam pages should have min/recommended specs.
As for Android, I don't do much phone gaming. But here are two I've played before that are at least in the ballpark, but still significantly different than the Steam games above.
Battlevoid: Harbringer is the closest I've found to the FTL feel because if your last ship dies, it's game over. The ship management and gameplay are very different from FTL, so it may not be exactly what you're looking for. You can find or buy modules like FTL. It's a great game though. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.bugbyte.harbinger&hl=en
I really like these two. The battlevoid you have more "liberty" and it's kind like Faster Than Light game.
I really enjoyed "Battlestation Harbringer"(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.bugbyte.harbinger) and "Out There", otherwise I agree, I've barely found any game worth playing. They're all dumbed down to suit non-gamers.
Haven't seen anything very similar, but I've been playing Battlestation: Harbinger for the last couple of days and it does have that unforgiving roguelike feel of FTL. As for the gameplay, I'd describe it as FTL meets SPAZ with a dash of Gratuitous Space Battles.
It's it this? The name was changed due to a copyright issue so might explain it being missing. If not it's a fantastic game. There is another one too but this is my favourite.

Any games similar to Battlevoid: Harbinger ?
This game is great, however there's not much selection of ships to choose from. I wish there's more. I didn't like the sequel that much due to change in travelling.
Can you recommend any similar games? Online/offline, don't mind paying a few bucks for complete game.
I've played a great many games over the years, few hold my interest for more than a week or two unfortunately. The two that I find I can always come back to are Bloons Tower Defense 5 and Battlevoid: Harbinger. I've been playing Harbinger a ton lately. It's difficulty scales well as you progress though each map. That coupled with the randomness leads to seemingly infinite replayability. Each time I have different weapons, different opponents, and challenges.

Star Command hasn't been updated since 2014. Usually a bad sign.
Something along the lines of Battlevoid Harbinger ?
Light spaceship building point and click and watch them fight.
Admittedly it is a pretty light game but I like it for lazy play time something more complex wouldn't be a problem.
Battlevoid: Harbinger is just brilliant.

Battlevoid: Harbinger (The game formerly known as Battlestation) is a good deal for $2.50 at 75% off. The mobile version is also on sale for $1: Google Play / iTunes. It just got an update with some new ships and features with the new name. It has cloud saves so you can continue your progress from PC to mobile and vice versa.

6) Battlevoid: Harbinger | PAID - Landscape
Battlevoid: Harbinger is a casual-ish strategy space combat game with roguelike elements.
The goal is to get through four maps by completing their main objectives, which typically involve finding and destroying certain enemies.
As we explore the universe, we also bump into friendly space stations where we can buy new weapons and upgrades, which is a critical part of being able to defeat the many different enemy species.
While the game might lack a bit of depth, it’s easily one of the best sci-fi themed light strategy games that mixes turn-based gameplay with real-time combat. And, it only costs a single dollar, which is pretty cheap for the amount of gameplay.
7) UniWar | FREE - Portrait
UniWar is an old classic where we move units around on a hexagon map to defeat all our opponents across a singleplayer-campaign and casual and competitive multiplayer that you can play alone or in teams of up to 4 versus 4.
The game features 3 races that each have 8 standard and a few unlockable units, and then more than 50 thousand user-created maps that help keep the gameplay fresh.
And because it can be played asynchronously, we can even have several games running at the same time, which is really nice.
The game is free to play, with some ads and iAPs that allow you to unlock units faster. This is the game’s biggest downside, but it’s still worth checking out.
8) Rebel Inc. | FREE - Landscape
Rebel Inc. is a simulation strategy game where we’re put in charge of an entire country immediately after a war has ended - and it’s now our job to stabalize the region and rebuild.
And this is no easy task! There are lots of things to keep in mind, and our success depends on careful management and tough decision-marking.
Because while we can improve our reputation by for example funding our healthcare and education systems, we have balance that against expanding our military so we can fight back any harmful groups attacking us.
It’s a complex game that is - surprisingly - free to play, with a few iAPs to remove ads and unlock new maps that can also slowly be earned through gameplay. If you enjoy political strategy games, this is a must-play.
9) The Battle of Polytopia | FREE - Portrait
The Battle of Polytopia is a casual turn-based world-building strategy game with short play-sessions, singleplayer and online multiplayer, and randomly generated maps that keep the game interesting.
After starting a new game by selecting one of 14 unique leaders, the goal is to defeat all opponents or score the most points in just 30 turns by expanding our kingdom, researching new technologies, and preparing an army for combat.
The game is free-to-play, with the online multiplayer mode unlocking after purchasing any of the premium leaders for $1-2 dollars.
This is truly an amazing game, so I strongly recommend trying it.
10) Phobies | FREE - Landscape
Phobies is a tactical strategy game where we have three keys per turn that we use to spawn our units, each of which have unique stats and attacks that define its damage, how far it can move, and how much health it has.
The goal is to destroy the opponent’s heart on the other side of a hex-grid map - or just kill all the enemies. And in-between matches we then upgrade our units and unlock new ones.
What truly sets the game apart, though, is that it features both asynchronous matches and real-time multiplayer, in addition to friendly battles and single-player challenges.
The biggest downside is that the iAPs give paying players a pay-to-progress-faster advantage. But on the bright side, there’s no energy system, and I think the unique gameplay makes it worth checking out as a casual game (but let me know in the comments what you think if you’ve already played it?).

I usually take the USS trademark and kit it out with 4 plasma bombers, so 16 drones. Lethal!
I think you meant this one.
Battlestation: Harbinger. It's out on mobile (Goole Play, iTunes), but we are releasing a refined PC version on Steam in about a month!
