It's hard, and evolution is more useful for optimizing your organisms than it is for creating them, but you can do a lot with evolution if you're patient or willing to set your own goals.
It's an incredible game, and one of my favorite Android games of all time.
You are getting hate for confusion over the word "replicating". A software virus self-replicates. This program does something "cute" by printing out it's source.
A program that reproduces itself opens up the world of cellular automata.
A program that self-replicates can become something very complex with some subtle tweaking. I've had a lot of fun playing this free android game that explores cellular automata and actual cellular biology.
Android ok? I ran across Cell Lab the other day, it takes a bit to understand, I'm just getting into needing multigenerational gene expression, the details are completely different but the feeling of watching life play out is reminiscent of Conway's game in the '70's.
I really enjoyed Cell Lab. There's only a limited amount of puzzles, but the sandbox extends the life of the game a great deal.
It's removed from reality somewhat, but it does teach some of the basic concepts behind microbiology.
The other game based on evolution a lot. This one never wanted to be big or popular as spore, only some mix between phase 1 and 2 of spore, very simple single or multi cell creatures in puzzle-like environment. But this one is done fffff right.
Aye, its a puzzle game, and its for android only https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.saterskog.cell_lab...
Atm dunno any other evolution themed game done right.

This is a a petri dish cell simulator, mutations/evolution are possible but also hand crafted cells. I especially enjoy crafting a celltype to destroy an evolutionary generated resilient eco system. You can easily make it resilient by sporadically seeding some weak predators and parasites.
So I checked it out based on your recommendation, and it's a pretty neat little sim. The fact that I haven't seen any ads so far is pretty astonishing considering how complex it is, at least in my eyes since I'm not exactly all that smart about cells and stuff.
To whoever's reading this, it's definitely worth checking out.
Same Ioff the top of my head I remember that the Cytoskeleton help keeps a Cells shape, but that's mostly since I found a cool game called Cell Lab don't let the ratings change your opinion the 1 stars are from people saying the gane is too hard. It's one of the few good mobile games I've found. Not sure if it's on other platforms.
It's a small game about evolving and creating creatures to survive in different environments, it also has a sandbox mode where you can turn up the radiation and watch new creatures form based on what setting you made for the environment
It even has a whole genetic system where you can manually change the genes of any creature, and it has zero ads or microtransactions from my understanding
Cell Lab: Evolution Sandbox. Really cool cell-life/evolution simulator with some challenging puzzles that have you designing organisms to survive in different environments.
This guy's YouTube channel is a good showcase of what kinds of things are possible in the game.

Don't listen to those noobs scoring low ratings. They just don't grok programming cells.
