Amazon has a very shitty design and basically looks like malware, especially the side (Hamburger) menu.
They mention it in their app description: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.mShop.android.shopping
The link is for the shopping app but it should apply to the full app as well.
Yes it is most likely because of Google Now which launched 1 year before Amazon started removing tracking numbers from emails.
It's to try to force people to use their app, rather than actually trying to benefit their customers.
I don't install apps unless they are trusted, and the amount of permissions that the Amazon app requires makes it very hard to justify installing it just for tracking numbers.
Click on View Details under Permissions to view everything they require: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.mShop.android.shopping&hl=en
Full access to add and view all accounts on the phone, location, microphone, camera, SMS access, contacts access, access to the phone dialer, read storage, phone identity, create accounts and set passwords, connect and disconnect wifi, read home settings and shortcuts. Really it's all permissions there are, you're giving Amazon full access to your phone and all data on it (which is more than most people think).
Preventing Amazon Instant Video from being able to be supported on Apple TV and Chromecast then banning Chromecast and Apple TV while greatly benefiting from the hard work that Google put into making Android open-source was one of the most scumbag things I've ever seen a company do. It forever made me distrust Amazon.
If you look at the app on the play store web page, just to the right of the app icon, it should say whether or not it is compatible with your device.

Gosh, now I'm really confused. Is this not from the play store? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.mShop.android.shopping
Do you think it has to do with installing unknown apps settings then?
>you can't find another apk store in the play store
I can find AmazonShopping on play store but not on yalp or aurora.

Sorry If I misunderstood.
Did you alter "Display Size" in the Settings at all? Change any font sizes?
You might be the only one that's been able to install it from the Play Store, so it seems awfully odd that you did.
So try going to these links on the computer and tell me if it says your XL is compatible:
Dunno why that is but just go ahead and use it. Ignore the word "tablet" in the title, it looks to be fully functional.
The regular Shopping app says it's not compatible with any of my devices, and one of them is my Pixel XL. The rest of the incompatibles are my Nexus 7 and my Android TV devices.
EDIT: I also get this weird message about my Display size, but that could be due to my adjusting of Display Size to "Small" in Settings->Display
Run this test and check your fingerprinting results: https://panopticlick.eff.org/
If your fingerprint is unique enough to pick you out of a lineup of a hundred users, your IP address (even if it's shared) just identified you.
Remember that this discussion started with apps that are pre-installed on your device. Even the Play Store version of the Amazon app has the Phone permission, which gives them access to your IMEI and identifying SIM card info. Now they have your device identified, wherever it is. Combine that with sneaky programs operated by your wireless provider such as Verizon's UIDH and that makes tracking you a piece of cake.
And that's just the easy stuff. When you have access to huge swaths of data from completely unrelated sites across the internet using tracking cookies, third-party analytics, advertising services, and referral links, and you apply some intelligent behavioral analysis to it, you can figure out what anybody is up to and be reasonably certain who it is.
To think that you're completely hidden from Amazon just because you're on a shared network is naive at best.
It's possible the app that's visible in the Play Store on your Pixel Slate is different from the one visible on your other devices. An example of this (with a free app) is Amazon, which has a phone app and a tablet app. In this case it seems the difference would be that the Pixel Slate is x86 rather than ARM.
Whether that's the case or not, try going to your app library in the web version of the Play Store (try to use another device if you can - a laptop or desktop, but not your Pixel Slate). Find one of the apps that's on your phone and go into the app page. The green button should say "Installed". For example: https://i.imgur.com/pp8u0vM.png
From here, if you press the "Installed" button, you should get a password prompt and then have the option to install it on another device: https://i.imgur.com/67zYK5g.png
If your Pixel Slate ("Google nocturne" on the store) is grayed out like this: https://i.imgur.com/ytYPOJA.png
let us know what it says.
EDIT: ...and New Reddit lets you paste in images into a comment if you use the "fancy pants" editor, but they don't actually show up in the final comment. Not so fancy now, are you?
I'm using this one on my Google Pixel: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.mShop.android.shopping&hl=en
