Downwell - roguelike shmup
Tower Fortress - roguelike platformer
Not sure if this is considered "casual", but Downwell is a fantastic game for quick sessions.
It's been my go-to game for the bathroom.
Besides the obvious ones here, the game Downwell. Vertical shooter with roguelike elements. Unlock different play styles and visual appearances. No IAPs anywhere.

Downwell is a great roguelike that has a surprising amount of complexity. You can shoot enemies below you which also slows your descent and can either land or goomba stomp enemies to refill your ammo. On top of that you can pick up augments to your gun throughout each level as well as choosing between powerups between levels.

Hey folks.
The only game I've been able to keep on my phone for years and play often is Downwell. Does anyone know something that might scratch the same itch?
I've beaten Hard Mode on PC, and I open the mobile version from time to time. One of the most well-designed and polished games I've played.
Of course, the virtual buttons do make it somewhat more difficult than physical buttons, but that goes for a lot of mobile games.
Downwell - It's not "time based" and is a roguelike but it's fun and challenging. I play it on the bus. Beating the top score is more about trying to get further and further into the well.
Unpossible is also a game you may enjoy.
A game I never see get enough love is Downwell.
Downwell is a fast paced, retro, 2-D platformer where you (shockingly) try to progress down a well, with nothing but your lethal feet and a downward facing gun to aid in clearing randomly generated levels. Other rogue-light elements like upgrades to your gun and abilities, leveling, and currency for random shops are here.
Levels rarely last more than a couple minutes, making it super easy to pick up and play. My favorite game on the Play Store so far!

Downwell is incredibly addictive, you're falling down a well and you have to shoot monsters with your "gunboots", but you only have a chance to reload when you land on a platform or on a monster's head. Great music and graphics, and TONS of color swaps. Very polished game.
It's $4 but no in-app purchases.
The two games I've been playing most lately are Downwell, and Day R Survival.
Downwell is an endless falling metrioid inspired shooter that is incredibly fun and challenging. It costs $3 and I haven't even seen in app purchases.
Day R Survival is a Russian post-apocalyptic crafting survival game with permadeath. It provides a huge explorable world (Russia) and while it is fairly simple in structure (a map and a few tabs with inventory and exploration options) it feels very immersive, and the threat of death puts you on the edge of your seat constantly.
Day R is free to play and the premium version provides online multiplayer with a cooperative feel for $3 or so. There is a market for in app purchases, but I have never felt the need to take advantage of it and it isn't naggy at all.
Additionally Day R is freshly ported to the English language from Russian and has some poorly translated idioms which just add so much to the atmosphere of the game.
Since you recommended a lot of the games I was going to, I'll just expand on your list instead of making my own.
Downwell: A simple but elegantly designed and challenging rogue-lite platformer that's about falling down a big fucking well.
Rymdkapsel: It's kind of like an abstract spaceship/city building game. Has a nice atmosphere.
Super Hexagon: A rhythm game/seizure simulator with really catchy music.
All of these are also available on PC and/or consoles, but they're much better suited for mobile imo. They're about 2-4 bucks each on the Google Play Store.
I've been playing these longer than any shit 'freemium' game.
Have fun! :)

Downwell is one of my favorite offline android games.
Been playing it for months now.
Awesome sale! Could you add Downwell to this table as well? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devolver.downwell\_rerelease
Downwell - arcade shooter/rogue-like
Pocket City - beautiful city builder
Cytus II - rhythm game, great music, IAP are packs of songs (totally worth it)
It's also available on the Google Play Store on sale for the same price, $1. Link
Downwell. Well worth the $3, no IAP, and it's quite addicting.
Full disclosure I don't know jack about photography. Most reviewers have all this daylight, going out and about, taking photos of signs, and whatnot. Exposure, Aperture, and f/2 are all syllables to me. I just went looking around my room to find some brightly coloured things and snapped away and deleted until I found one I liked. I don't have proper lighting aside two desklamps. All the backup services will compress the files; none of these photos are synced anywhere, I plugged in the respective USB cables and copied the originals to my computer to upload. The following album is taken from Robin using the Nextbit Camera.
Sometimes, I'd read a review on one of those tech sites, and they'd have two phones, take a photo, and take another very similar photo, same subject, same location. I always hated this procedure, because you cannot objectively take the same photo twice by hand. I got a small stationary setup, and Robin did not move over the next two albums. It was during that first set of photos, I realised I don't really like the way Nextbit implemented Gallery and Camera. I'd take one shot, and have to switch over Gallery, and delete them slowly. Then switch back to camera to continue; compared to Nexus devices, where your roll is just a swipe to the right. I installed an old apk of AOSP Gallery, Google Camera, then updated the latter. The following album is taken from Robin using Google Camera
So after I installed Google Camera, I left Robin on the stand, and switched to Nextbit camera, and tried some photos. There is some cropping, but I believe this is due to the way Nextbit implemented the viewfinder. This is trying to test different apps running the same hardware. Feel free to compare this to the previous album. The following album is taken from Robin using Nextbit Camera
Hardware! This gallery compares a Robin next to a Nexus 5X, its main competitor. I killed all the lights in the room, tuned everything as dark as possible, and took photos with a Nexus 5. The first two compare the two devices selecting wallpaper at 0 and 100% brightness. Robin has an significantly brighter flash (due to a dual LED?). Next, I googled Azure Blue and zoomed to fullscreen. The next three images show the two at 0, (roughly) 50%, and 100% brightness. I saw some posts asking about which had the brighter screen, and it's hard to tell from a head-on photo, but if you photograph them at an angle, Robin looks brighter. This will likely kick in when you're out and about, but higher brightness generally means it's more usable in sunlight. The wallpaper selection is another 50-100% brightness test. And finally, you can see the tone of the two phones. Mint, and Ice. The following gallery was taken from a Nexus 5 with Google Camera.
Aaand since you guys are inevitably going to ask. The official Nextbit charger is most likely a Qualcomm Quickcharge 2.0 charger. That list has a few chargers, and the Nextbit one is most likely similar to the Moto one, only being 2.0 certifiable. Otherwise, it would be capable of 200mA increments, and would state so on the box. I got through my day as a casual user, unlimited data, and came home with 42%. I burned through the battery playing Downwell which you guys should totally check out. Charged from 0 to full in a little over an hour, I wasn't paying too close attention.
One last thing. Day-0 system update, MR0. Nextbit's update game's on point.

Also on sale @ Google Play for $1 / 1,09€ for Android mobile devices
Downwell is currently on sale and really is great.
You can hide the controls in the options (you really don't need them, it's just left/right + jump-shoot).
It uses the platform very well.
Other suggestions:
I think Downwell has that, thought the default graphics is monochrome with an added red accent. PS: it's an awesome game
Not the same game type, but Downwell is arcade-y and offline.
One of the best android games imo.
This is what I have installed right now. (All Google Play links)
Quick, pickup and play games:
Longer, sit down and play games:
Multiplayer games:
Misc Stuff:
I'm sure many people can agree when I say I'm not a fan of how the mobile market is saturated with too many "most profit with least effort" games, so this is a list of the awesome games that I've been having fun with lately!
I'd love to add any other favourites you guys recommend.
I hope this helps :D
Well if you're fine with a game that you can pick up and play for five minutes then set down again I'd suggest Downwell What I mean by pick up and set down is that Downwell is a roguelike , meaning that once you die you start over. It does have a lot of upgrades and unlockables though.
There's also jetpack joyride which also has a lot of upgrades. There's also Soda Dungeon. You Must Build A Boat and it's predecessor 10000000 are some of my favorite puzzle ones.
There are others but I'm too lazy to add them all

Downwell and Minesweeper
The 2 games I have on my phone like this are Downwell and Desert Golfing (the other one I have is Hearthstone).
Both quick to jump in jump out and with no ads or anything.
Downwell is a simple roguelite platformer that's addictive and fast paced (also streamlined controls: left, right, one button for both jump and shoot). You open the app and can start a level almost immediately (move your character, and jump down a well to start).
Desert Golfing is a super zen-like (except for the 5% of hard levels) infinite 2D golf game. You just keep playing. There are no menus or ways to restart. You open the app and it picks up right were you left off. 0 taps to start playing.
EDIT: Also, I can't remember if they have any bloat, but the Square Enix GO games are pretty good and are all 80% off right now: Hitman GO, Lara Croft GO , Deus Ex GO
I get most of my game through Humble Bundles, if you didn't know about those. I never browse the Play Store. These are frequent enough and if one or 2 games look good, it's usually worth it.
Downwell, Switch N Shoot, Shattered Pixel Dungeon, Onecue (most games by 111% are in portrait mode) I love portrait mode games, if I think of more I'll edit.
I recently played this game called Downwell on my friend's android. Absolutely loved it.
Most of these were games I played on my iOS devices around the end of 2015. They eventually became available on Android and now I'm playing them there too.
