I (mainly) use Boost. It was the first app that felt right to me! So, I feel unsatisfied with the rest.
Official app has limited customization options. Most unofficial app has some unique features to distinguish it from the pack. Boost is highly customizable; Joey is optimized for some popular subreddits; Relay has a very interesting UI; RedReader is very minimal; etc.

Boost for reddit, my reddit client of choice, just got a huge update in the beta channel and it's absolutely great!
To italicize, put an asterisk before and after the text you want in italics. Ex: * words * but without spaces between the letter and asterisk will show words
To show bold, do the same thing but with 2 asterisks before and after the text you want in bold. Ex: ** words ** but without spaces between the letter and asterisks will show words
Put a ">" before the text you want to quote. Ex: >quoted words will show
Everything you type will be in quote mode until you make a new paragraph. It is possible to italicize and bold inside of quotes
Some Android clients have cool little toolbars that pop up over your keyboard for italics, bolding, quoting, adding links, and previewing what your about to post. I use Boost for Reddit. iOS might have clients that do this as well but I never tried anything on there besides the official app
Hope this helps, OP
Edit: to ~~strikethrough~~, put two tildes (~ x2) before and after the text you want struckthrough. Ex: ~~ words ~~ but without the spaces between the word and tildes will show ~~words~~
Boost for Reddit
The app that made me fall in love with reddit. I've not used reddit on PC much, but this app pretty much made me check in everyday.
Everything about its UX, UI and features feels great on mobile.
I've tried the other clients and the official app, but nothing comes close to this app.
I also was going to say my Reddit app (Boost, just in case you need to know)
That said, Google Assistant. I've been having a lot of fun lately playing audio games with my kids (6&8).. they can play Mad Libs over and over.
don't use the official Reddit app, use Boost for reddit or Sync for reddit
Boost does both, IIRC.
I'm using (and loving) Sync though, ~~but I don't think it does either~~.
Don't use a crappy app?
try Boost if you're on android.
Apollo if you're on IOS
I use a a reddit app called boost. Solid features, multi account, auto formatting options, and a little button that gives you a list of ascii and copy pasta images such as these ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ¯_(ツ)_/¯ (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ ಠ╭╮ಠ and many more at the click of one button. Play store link: Boost for reddit heh I just noticed it also has a button that auto adds that link for me.
I've been using Bacon Reader premium for Reddit for ages and was looking for something more, Bacon Reader is good and easy to use but lacks customisation, I installed Boost for Reddit and it's brilliant.
No doubt it's been highlighted on here before but thought I'd share the love.
P.s the ad free version is worth the small cost.
My second recommendation is the Signal message app, I've replaced the default Samsung one with Signal and it's really good.
+1 for Boost for Reddit best client on Android IMHO. Have tried them all but kept coming back to boost. Gorgeous, so many features, quick.
Regardless though, came here to say this - Android is a MUCH better platform when it comes to Reddit apps, ignore the one made by Reddit, there's such an incredible selection on Android. As Plucky mentioned, there are 4-5 incredible Reddit apps on Android.
Try Boost for Reddit. It's in Beta but it's very stable, for me at least. Only feature I would like is readability integration.
I've received some mentions from this post, so here we go:
I'm the developer of Boost for reddit. My main motivation was to learn Android programming. I decided to do something related to reddit cause doing a big app forces you to use (and learn) many features from the android sdk. My background is telecommunication engineering but I've been always interested in android programming, so I started the app in my free time when I got home after work. After several months the app was published in february 2016 and people seemed to like it. It was amazing and I am very thankful for all the support that I receive from users. This project has been fun and exciting (and overwhelming at times) but totally worth it!
Try using Boost for Reddit. It's a rather great app. So much customization and themes that look good that can be customized rather extensively.
For reddit, try Boost for reddit
Also try Fast Finder, finds everything on your phone
It is the best layout and best way to consume Reddit on a Chromebook. If you need to use an app (not sure why you would), then Boost is the way to go.
Boost for Reddit, mi piace perché è personalizzabile in ogni dettaglio.
Reddit app: Try them all, and keep trying them. You'll find that many of them are pretty good. There is no best one. (But Boost is best.)
I've been using several different Reddit apps over the last few years, but have always ended up going back to Sync... Until now.
Boost seems like it has everything you could ever want in a Reddit app, and it for sure is the only one that's ever been able to uproot Sync as my daily driver.
Not sure why you linked bacon reader though. Here's the play store link to Boost. Here's the play store link to Boost.
Are you using the official Reddit App? That would be an issue with the app itself, not Android.
The great news is there are many Reddit apps to choose from to find what meets your specific needs.
I use Boost for Reddit which addresses the specifics you mention.
Boost for reddit. It's a 3rd party reddit app It adds a bunch of features and customization.
Boost for reddit on the google play store
I recommend boost for reddit, because of its extensive options for customizing and theming. But there's a ton of great reddit clients that do the job better than the default one.
I switched to Boost for Reddit after using BaconReader for 4 years. I'm not going back and I highly recommend it. Boost for Reddit
Edit : Added link.
How so? Boost has a higher Play Store rating than Sync and looks to be pretty slick, but I’m not going to make the switch unless there are compelling reasons to do so.
Boost for reddit
Talon for Twitter
Boost is PHENOM & Ready is an up & comer to keep an eye on, kind of too basic ATM, but it's going to be nice once it gets a more full featured/robust settings layout.
Finally ripped Sync out of all my devices, hadn't even used it in ages, the prolonged battery life has been worth it.
This app has come a long way in a short amount of time. I remember when this app was first posted here when it was in beta. Since then, the dev has added loads of requested features and really fleshed out the app. I highly recommend it.
I use this one Boost For Reddit as my primary the only thing missing is a good comment tab.
I paid the $2.50 for no advertisements it was worth it especially since you get all the features of desktop.
What's V.reddit? I'm interested
Honestly, I wouldn't be able to tell you. Updates once or twice a week with a changelog of over 8-10 things each time. It started off with a fluid scrolling experience but was missing features, now I feel it has actually left Relay behind in many areas... It's worth just trying and removing if you don't like it or keeping if you do...
It's currently in Beta and is very new, but already testers were asking for an ad-free Pro version...
I've been using Boost and I love it so far. Been using it for a few months now. As soon as I have the money I'll be buying the ad free version.
Mods I'll delete this if I shouldn't put it here but Play store link: Boost for reddit
Try Boost for reddit
Basically, everything made by the official team for Reddit, other than the API which lets things like this exist, is terrible.
So you should always choose third-party apps and browser extensions.
I've tried them all, and my favorite reddit app has been Boost for a while now. It's very nicely polished and highly customizable.
If you use it mostly for including pictures in your Reddit posts, then you might want to try out Boost for Reddit which lets you upload pictures to Imgur and directly include them in your posts. (other Reddit apps probably can do this too)
Some third party clients (like the one I use, Boost for reddit) have that feature, but the standard Reddit app doesn't support flair changes (yet)
Triglycerides can sometimes be momentarily elevated. If someone who usually has healthy levels gets a blood test after a weekend of heavy drinking, they might be high. Or after a rather excessive Sunday dinner.
I once tested normal for cholesterol, but high for triglycerides the day after a half marathon and a post-race meal of fries, burgers, and beers. A month later, my levels were normal, and have been normal in the tests since then.
It's still a good idea to start eating healthier, but another test not too far in the future might also Play store link: Boost for redditbe a good idea before you worry too much about this, especially if your cholesterol and blood sugar were fine.
I was a RedditIsFun fan for years, and would occasionally try out the other clients to see what they had to offer. Boost was the first reddit client that actually got me to switch for more than a week. I've been using Boost for months.
The thing with these clients is that they are all very similar at this point. Just try them all out. Give each one a few days and make sure you tweak the settings to your liking. I'm not sold on the claims that one client is better than the rest. It all depends on how you consume reddit. Sync seems to be the most popular, but it is one of my least favorites.
It's an embarrassment of riches. There are many excellent clients. Find the one that works best for you.
I'm currently using Boost since it works best for me. I still go back to Reddit is Fun occasionally, having used it for years. And I periodically install the others to see where the developers have brought their apps.
Boost has got to be probably the best Reddit client I've ever used. I'm pretty picky when it comes to browsing Reddit because efficiency is everything to me and with all the customization and UI tweaks Boost has to offer, you can make this app look exactly how you want it to. It's also packed with great features that makes Boost stand out from the rest. I highly recommend this app!
I used baconreader for many years but I've recently switched over to Boost.
It feels a lot like the way I had baconreader setup but with some additional improvements.
If you use Reddit Enhancement Suite or any of the Android apps (like Boost for Reddit) then you can set filters. I've filtered everything that is labelled [shitpost] or similar. Works pretty well.
There's a lot of competition between reddit apps. Thanks to that all the most used reddit apps are A+.
But my favourite is Boost for Reddit, just looks better.
I'm on mobile 100% of the time, so I use an app called Boost for Reddit. Not the best name but it's definitely the best andriod app for reddit Imo. Anyway it has an advanced comment button and you can click that then hit the new smiley face button and there's a few popular faces to choose. They'll be adding more in the future.
On desktop I assume most people copy and paste rather than learn the alt codes
I've been using Boost for Reddit for over a year now. Consistently updated with new features, awesome theme support, and has every feature that I can think of from the other apps out there.
On Boost for reddit (for Android) edited comments have the time posted, and then the time it was edited in parentheses next to it.
Also works in Boost for Reddit. General piece of advice: don't use the official Reddit app. Use any of the third-party apps. Every single one of them is better than the official app.
Not OP, but I have both (along with every other reddit app.)
Relay pro is pretty my favourite reddit app, but boost is actually quite decent. It's also nice to see a new (hopefully seriously competitive) reddit app.
The app itself runs smoothly on my phone, I haven't encountered any annoying bugs yet, and a relay user will be familiar with the layout because it's very similar. I also really like the text editor, it's like the one on Relay but a little more refined. The editor lacks live preview, though.
Handling links in-app isn't as good as some other reddit apps and there's no play/pause/replay gifs functionality yet. To replay a gif you need to go back and press it again. Also, I think it some aspects of it need a little more refinement; however, all of that is to be expected from a beta version.
If you're asking me I'd say go download it and test it for yourself. You might really like it, and it might even replace your favourite app.
Link to the app
No prob - check out Boost for Reddit.
I was dead set on Baconreader for a few years. This one came along and has been the best experience I've had in a long time.
Habe reddit is fun auch ewig benutzt, aber bin vor einiger Zeit auf Boost for Reddit umgestiegen und habe es noch kein einziges Mal bereut. Schon rein optisch ist es eine Riesenverbesserung. RiF ist so ... altbacken.
I've tried all the reddit apps. Boost is by far the best.
There's no reason to use the official app over third party apps; it's worse than all of them in practically every way.
Boost for reddit. Loving the app. Very well optimised and light on battery. Offers an incredible amount of customization as you'd expect from an Android/Reddit app.
For me it's very important since I keep a lot of content (mostly gifs and vids from Boost) in separate folders. When I need space and move them to sdcard1, the dates are messed up and my Gallery can't show the last downloaded content first anymore.
I used to be a strong advocate of Relay for Reddit. But there were small things like having to double select a subreddit if you switch away to read messages.
Since then I've tried a variety of clients and have ended up with Boost for Reddit.
It is really a pleasure to use, and while feature rich, gets out of your way and let's the content be your focus.
There's a bunch of unofficial Reddit apps. Personally I prefer Boost for reddit. There's also sync for Reddit, Joey for Reddit, Reddit is fun ... just search for "Reddit" in the play store to see them all.
It's an app, It is free but there is an ad free version that you can buy but it isn't necessary, barley any ads.
Unfortunately there isn't an ios version
>You can have this
by putting ">" in front of a row.
Bold text is done by putting two star marks (*) in front and after the word(s)
Italic is done with one star mark and used like bold.
~~This~~ is done with two of ~ marks before and after the word(s)
Boost for Reddit offers these in easy buttons plus things like ¯_(ツ)/¯
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
And many more.
Hum, sounds like a broken install. I'd reformat the USB and try the install again. The USB tool from microsoft works pretty well, but I prefer downloading the ISO and using RUFUS to burn it. As for the "Offical Reddit App" It sucks, I prefer Boost for Reddit there are some other good ones out there, but I've stuck with boost since it does everything I need.
RES on desktop with dark mode enabled site wide and custom CSS turned off.
I use Boost for Reddit on Android when I am on my phone. Play store link: Boost for reddit
I'm in the same boat. Reported it (can't get into my apps at all), and got nothing. If you react to notifications it works fine, in my case. I downloaded boost which works well on Android. Bacon Reader is good too, but usually had to reload a couple of times every time.
Edit: Happy Cake Day.
Boost does the same thing. I used RedditIsFun for a couple years before switching, and I really enjoyed it. RIF kicks ass. That being said, I have been using Boost for Reddit for a little while now, and it's hands down the best Reddit app. I have tried yet.
Boost for Reddit. It's got easy advanced ~~editing~~ with formatting preview and picture uploader, opens most pictures in app, so no external apps needed, lots of customizable styles, and this nice sharing button: Play store link: Boost for reddit
I use Boost for Reddit, and I'm pretty happy with it, I also bought the addsfree for it, you can change and adjust so many settings and it's still quite simple to use.
I use "Boost for reddit" and it's the best client I've tested so far. It also has the best rating in the google playstore.
Play store link for the lazy: Boost for reddit
Edit: By now, sync pro has the same rating (4,8 stars)
~~You can read your chat in Boost~~
Edit: u/najodleglejszy is right. Redit chat is different from messages. And it is not available in boost.
P.S. although you should try boost.
Double Squiggly around the thing.
~~bye~~ = ~~bye~~
Or get a better app such as Play store link: Boost for reddit and then be able to just do it with a button
Oh. That's what you're referring to. No I don't use that one. But I do use a different third-party up. But just not that one. I didn't know what you were referring to before, and I seriously thought you meant the Apollo spacecraft.
Honestly? Boost. I've been using Boost for a few months now and I love it. It has way more features than relay and runs smoother in my opinion. I'm only subscribed to this sub out of loyalty and to see if an update revamps the app.
I've never used that one, but you can check out the Google Play listing for Boost through any web browser: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit&hl=en
I've been seeing the same thing in Swipe mode and I've been holding out for a fix in the last couple of weeks since the release. At this point it's still busted so I've switched to Boost for Reddit which has a swipe view and doesn't have this problem.
Sorry! I meant Boost—you can find it here. Also, I guess I see what you mean in terms of the design guidelines, but they look really awkward to me with everything else because everything being displayed just reminds me of the Android apps I've used. But I guess I see where you're coming from.
As far as Reddit apps on Android (I have an iPhone and Android tablet), I personally prefer Boost and Relay for Reddit to the tablet version of the Offical Reddit app for Android, which (unlike the iPhone version (most of the time)), is total garbagio.
Baconreader is a great app, and over time they have been able to Boost their features. I'm sure with time they will work out the kinks, and continue to Boost the appreciation users have for their app even further.
I USE BOOST FOR REDDIT SO MUCH THAT I HARDLY EVER SEE THE WEBSITE ANYMORE. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MOST SUBREDDITS THAT I VISIT LOOK LIKE.
I got Boost for reddit, and am very much enjoying it. 8.5 hours of SoT was 34% of my battery, while boost I used for 3 hours and it claimed 5%. Relay was above my SoT percentage wise, those first few days.
I've noticed you haven't been using post flairs recently. According to recent changes in subreddit procedure, all posts require a post flair in order to be processed and sorted properly. Assigning a post flair also allows you to get help faster, as people will know what exactly you're looking for.
If you are unable to add a post flair via your mobile app of choice, I suggest you use Boost for Reddit.
If you're on Android, I'd suggest Boost. I've tried all the other ones, and aside from the somewhat shitty ads, Boost has been the way to go. There is an IAP to remove ads (or you could nuke them with an adblocker). The developer is really active and responsive to suggestions and feedback, too.
There are a lot of apps for reddit that can filter keywords, My personal favorite , Boost For Reddit, does that perfectly.
You mightcould help me with that one... I've been using Boost for Reddit but I've come to dislike it because over the past few updates it has become very slow and often becomes totally unresponsive.
I like Boost and reddit is fun
I've set it as "Long press on the toolbar title", but what I am trying to do is a bit different, I want to show it up in single tap and not long press, also can I get rid of that search and only show up the Subreddits, that's exactly why I was giving example of Boost, Relay etc to make it clear. Thanks for your tip!
Could check out this reddit app (Boost for reddit). It has filters built in which you can toggle from the settings or on the subreddit page options at the top right.
The bug you mention made me look for an alternative, right around the time Boost was released. Switched to Boost. Never looked back.
Move to Boost!
That hourly occurrence of reddit is fun golden Platinum crashing is a thing of the past. Boost is buttery smooth, clean as a whistle, and pleasure to use. Its handling of any sort of video or GIF is far superior, and has never crashed one time that I've seen.
If this option is already there (as I can't find anything in General, kindly tell me which option it is) or you misunderstood what I asked, I am confused now...
I was talking about having a Subreddit Changer in Toolbar next to Hamburger Button on Subreddit name that looks something like one in Boost for reddit for example.
Boost is a Reddit client. Basically Reddit if Reddit was customizable as shit. Also it helps you with formatting text and inserting images into comments using imgur.
Totally,I'd like to say that whenever a new reddit client comes out i'll give them a go (here's just a few that i've tried r-Slash for reddit beta,Slide for Reddit,Relay for Reddit,Now for Reddit,Sync for Reddit,Flow for Reddit,BaconReader and Reddit is Fun phew).
As you can see I've used a few and to be honest loved Flow for Reddit, but as of lately I can see me sticking with Boost as I love it's look and it has a nice night theme.Would definitely recommend.
Boost is my new favorite reader. I've used most of the more popular reddit clients, Relay was my favorite but Boost has surpassed it IMO.
Some third party Reddit Clients (like Boost for reddit, the one I use) allow to do that in the sidebar, but the stock Reddit app lacks that feature. So you'll have to do it on PC.
~~Play store link: Boost for reddit~~
[link] fixed it for you
Boost for Reddit is the best Reddit app I've used on Android (have tried Bacon, Reddit is Fun, and the official Reddit app). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit&hl=en_US
I would like to suggest Boost for Reddit. It's even got this nice button: Play store link: Boost for reddit
Also these ones:
