I like getting my apps from f-droid, and I use: Cool Reader (E-book Reader) - https://f-droid.org/packages/org.coolreader
or for folks who prefer Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.coolreader
Cool Reader has no IAP or ads, open source, can read mobi & epub, also supports TTS
But Prestigio is better IMHO. I have a rooted phone so I don't see the adds
I don't know what that guy is using on the 6th panel but it looks like an annoying way to read a book. I actually do read books on my Android phone, and I'd recommend the Cool Reader app. Works great with epub or mobi files, and there are thousands of free books already available.
Google Play Books is a pretty good reader, but it's not quite configurable enough for me. Specifically, I'd like the ability to set:
I've been utterly spoiled by Cool Reader, which is unfathomably ugly out of the box but insanely customizable if you're willing to take the time to tweak it to your liking. Cool Reader supports all of the above, plus much, much more.
My main complaint with Google Play Books, however, is not the reader; it's the library. I have over a thousand books in my library (all from legitimate sources), and it's damn near impossible to find anything or even browse my collection in any meaningful way. For years now, users have been begging Google to implement bookshelves/tagging, but these pleas have all fallen on deaf ears.
It's especially frustrating because the bookshelves/tagging feature is already available in Google Books, which already integrates with Google Play Books.
If you're using Android here's the way I use to get really decent text-to-voice. That will be read out loud on your phone (or tablet).
Install this free ebook reader (cool reader). It has a 'read aloud' option. Note: it's not the best/easiest reader... but it's free!
Install this free text-to-voice app (ivona voice) (and pick/install a voice - I prefer "Amy")
Voila! Now every ebook is an audio book.

^^p.s. ^^not ^^looking ^^for ^^gold... ^^hope ^^your ^^friend ^^is ^^doing ^^well.
If you have some kind of Book Reader app (I personally love Cool Reader on Android), try the .epub instead, .mobi is a bit weird sometimes on mobiles.
Any near-free second-hand Android phone or tablet can function as an e-reader. There are a few Samsung tablets which are about $100 and provide pretty decent performance for the price. I bought one of these when they were new for less and $120 and it's got surprisingly good performance--even today (as long as you can put up with Samsung's bad habit of making poor copies of all of the base Android software). I'd reccomend replacing the default launcher with something like the Nova Launcher.
Once you've selected your device, grab Cool Reader, Kindle for Android, and Challenger Viewer and between those 3 you can read pretty much every e-book format going.
Pros:
Cheap cheap cheap
All e-book formats, including pdf and cbz (comics), including the DRM'd kindle e-books.
Cons:
Battery life.
Setup time and learning to use the new software.

Hope this helps.
Besides obvious Kindle, you can install Cool Reader or any other ebook reader.
Then browse sites such as Gutenberg, Feedbooks, Baen, Smashwords etc for some books and you're ready to go.
Cool Reader is a superb app for reading .epub files.
Default Google book reader can consume EPubs, but I use https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.coolreader.fdroid/ (respectively https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.coolreader).
I use this as my eReader app (and I happen to use epubs as my preferred format, so they do work):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.coolreader&hl=en_US
Cool Reader + Smart phone = Success.
Cool Reader is the VLC of Ebook readers.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.coolreader&hl=en
I use Cool Reader as it's easier on my android's battery than many other readers.
Cool Reader is a superb e-reading app. Download a few dozen books from Project Gutenberg to your computer, transfer them to your phone's SD card, and read!

Let me try my luck with this.
Paskaahan nämä lukitut järjestelmät on. Ostetut kirjat katoo itsestään. Huutista Tyhmille.
Jos lukee Coolreaderilla, voi tallentaa kirjanmerkin Dropboxiin, jolloin lukemista voi jatkaa saumattomasti sekä Booxissa, puhelimessa että tietokoneessa.
