I have been using Poweramp for about 10 years, and I still do. The level of customization and feature it offers is incredible. I have bought the full version almost immediately. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
The poweramp app on Android has visualizations, just like the ones in media player.
Edit: link
Poweramp is an amazing music player, with many customizable themes and with the most recent update, a brand new UI. With the new audio engine that came with V3., you can now stream the music on your device or SD card with a much clearer, higher quality. With an output SL and high res quality output, the choice is yours in which way you want to listen to your music. Supports all qualities of music and even provides stunning visuals with the built in visualizer. The equalizer furthers your music experience as it provides crisp, clear, and amazing ways to alter your music, and even enhance it. Changing the bass is rather easy, and focusing more sound on one ear, couldn't get easier. With the new overlay on lockscreen, you no longer have to unlock your phone to change your track position, it's already there! With updates being made, poweramp is on its way to becoming the best music player. (Even though technically, it already is). With smart playlist you can view your recently added tracks and even play mp4s on your device. You can also change the scanner to your needs.
Happy streaming!
You're looking at the Unlocker app which just unlocks the app. You need to install the trial version as well. The trial app was updated one year ago but as u/R3DJOK3R1 mentioned a new version is in the works. You can also check out the Poweramp forums.
You need a good android music player that supports channel balancing.
I use and recommend Poweramp
You can change channel balance very easily via the advanced equalizer settings.
Raising the volume with a software above 0dB will clip the output and sound like shit.
If your phone can't get loud enough with the M100 (103dB/mW @ 32 Ohm) your are in dire need of a new phone.
In case you still want mess up sound quality with software use Poweramp
I can really recommend PowerAmp, been using for 5 years. Curently they are working on redesign, so if you don't like the normal look (which I believe is what you are looking for) you can enable beta testing on Google Play page and you can try that new fresh and modern look
Linkme : Poweramp Music Player, Poweramp Music Player (Trial)
I promise nothing comes close. Eq per artist/album, great head phone controls, customization and v3 is around the corner.
The bot only seems to be posting the unlocker, my apologies.
Google Play : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
I believe but don't quote me that you get a 15 day trial unrestricted, it may be 30 I don't remember.
So, you're looking for a Music Player?
If you can afford paying for an app, go for Poweramp or Blackplayer EX.
For free you can also try with BlackPlayer (free) and Vynil Music Player (is Just Phonograph but without any in-app payment.)
Poweramp (website)

I haven't used this in a while on my Shield tbh, but when I did it worked pretty well with landscape mode.
This player supports MilkDrop visualizations (!!!), and has lots of settings for audio preferences (i.e. removes gaps). Highly recommended, both for mobile phones and other devices. It also works really well with external devices such as a USB DAC.
Most importantly is that you can choose not to use the library mode (indexing), and just browse/play folders directly.
Use Poweramp. Its dirt cheap It's got the feature you need & also supports hi res audio. If you have a decent headphone you will hear the difference
Check this screenshot
Try poweramp
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Been using it for years on all sorts of android devices. It had crossed and gapless. You can pick specific folders for music and has more options that anything else I have seen. The developer is still very active and the latest beta had added visualization.
M7, M8 and M9 support .flac format. If you are an audiophile (if you are using .flac I'm going to lean towards you are), I would recommend getting PowerAmp as your daily driver. It does also play .flac and has oodles more customisation than stock with all of the integration (i.e. GoogleNow, notification tray and Android Wear support) of stock.
There is a free trial and the unlocked version isn't too expensive.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_GB
Poweramp is my fav. Lots of features. But you have to buy it. Costs less than a dollar. Ypu can try itnfpe free for the first 15 days though.
Poweramp is the number one music player imo
It's like the better version of Winamp, which really whipped he Llama's ass until it was discontinued
hey OP. I bought this music player called PowerAMP.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I cant express how beautiful, practical, easy to use it is. It just got a huge update and I love it even more. It is not really that similar to GMP but man its sooooo good. It has everything you asked for and even more. In the previous versions it also supported skins which im hoping it is still gonna support in this version soon. I think that upgrading to the pro version is very very very cheap and also super worth it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer.unlock
I have had this player for years and I only have good things to say about it. If you decide to try it out please let me know what you think. Hope I could help.
Playstore. Here's the link-
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Edit - guys, with this link, you may have to check to be beta tester for this app. The link probably geta you to the stable old version, and not the new one.
The other way to verify is to go in app list and verify version to be "beta-build-793".
I connect my phone to my PC with a USB cable, than drag and drop the songs/albums I want using the standard Windows file explorer (My Computer?). I use PowerAmp to play my music and it keeps my songs in album-order too.
You can try Poweramp. I love Poweramp for its audio engine. It's not a free app, trial is available for 15 days.
Phonograph is a free alternative, it is beautifully (material) designed, but it uses the default Android audio engine only.
Links:
Poweramp: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Phonograph: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone
PowerAmp is the best, I've been using since 2011. It has its own audio engine which is far better than stock Android. Not the best when it comes to design and updates but audio quality matters more to me. If you ask me about best design, it is Phonograph, but it uses the default audio engine and so can't replace PowerAmp. If Phonograph gets that audio engine, it'll be my most favourite music player.
Note that Phonograph is completely free whereas PowerAmp has a 15 day trial and then you have to buy the unlock key.

Sadly my V20 dose not have the LG Music player app (AT&T H910). I spent a few days looking for a alternative music player app and I've settled on Poweramp I like it a lot, esp after I really spent a good 10 mins going through all the setting and getting the UI and functions setup exactly how I like. It supports skins, and I found one that I feel matches the stock V20 theme well It even lets you backup your settings as well and works with the media controls on the second screen! Give it a try.
Nope, in fact, I would highly recommend Poweramp. Get the full version if you can afford it. Best music player I've ever used on Android, and Zombies, Run! recognizes its playlists.
Try PowerAmp Music Player. I find the experience has been good despite me jumping from handset to handset. Does all the album art, playlist, equalizer and so on.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I do have the Pro (aka paid) version of this, but just do a couple of Google surveys and amass some Play store credits.
Yeah, that's just the thing - you don't even have to search on GPM, you can just slide or scroll down to the M's or S's or Y's in a second.
I have a 512 GB microSD card in my phone, and use Poweramp to listen and cast (best $5 I've ever spent at the Play store), so it's not such a big deal to me, really, but the interface really sucks for people with large uploaded libraries.
If you are using the MDR-1ADAC headphones that have a DAC converter built in, then having a phone with a (quad) DAC converter would be pointless.
The product support page lists various models of Xperia, so I can't imagine a newer model like the XZ wouldn't be supported.
The Sony music app can play FLAC files and has several audio 'enhancements', but personally I prefer Poweramp which has recently launched a new version, supporting hi bit rate output and access to many of the higher functions of the audio device.
my favourite player of all time was Poweramp Music Player Pro but when i switched from mp3 to Flac i started having a distortion (must look into it), so i moved to n7player Music Player pro works great even with Flac
Poweramp. also hires abilities. free to give it a shot. try to venture into the player and not instantly uninstall.
It LOOKS complicated, but its for more features than needed at times.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
good luck
That's the most you will see on the android ecosystem until you can find a music app that shows more options. I use poweramp. you can give it a shot and see the 22 widgets it offers. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US
supports hi res audio and a wide equalizer. it shows on lock and aod screen. no promises on how it may react for you, nut works for me.
Which music app are you using?
Try PowerAmp[Trial] version and see if you like it, before paying for the full version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
Full version €4.00, have it for years.
Power Amp music player has a really good equalizer from what I remember. I don't use it anymore tho since I've subscribed to Google Music which also has built in equalizer settings.
Edit: don't know why the link is showing up so funny.
2nd edit: link fixed. I'm dumb, had formatting reversed.
Yes it's only in the Beta. I think there's an option in the Play store to join the Beta, I believe.
That version has a lot more stuff than the current Poweramp, including that volume tweak. Highly recommended. The forum has some info.
Try Power Amp for your music. I've been using it for about 5 years across 2 phones and I love it. All of my music on the phone (17GB worth) is on the microSD card and I set it as the default in Power Amp's options. Power Amp also lets you sort by Folder so you don't have to bother with Artist/Album/etc if you don't want to.
>am basically technology illiterate
Here's a review/demonstration of it. It is very customizable but if you don't want to mess with that you don't have to. You can just point it to your main music folder and then forget about it. PowerAmp will automatically start playing whenever you connect headphones, both cord and bluetooth.
Have you tried a different media player. I use the default one now, but poweramp used to be great. It's a few bucks but there's a trial available.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I recommend trying out the trial version on Google Play for 30 days. LinkMe: Poweramp (Trial)
Never used Linkme before, so here's if it fails.
EDIT: yep, it linked the Unlocker, use the link I had.
Make the switch. A 32GB micro SD costs basically nothing these days. You can install Poweramp, it's one of the few Android apps that I actually paid for.
It's so convenient not having to use two separate devices, plus you can throw iTunes in the trash where it belongs.
Skip Kies, skip any extra software for transferring files. Open the phone in an explorer window and copy the files like you would copy a folder anywhere on your computer. Put them in a folder on your internal memory or SD card (whichever you prefer, makes no difference) called 'Music'.
For playback there are a ton of free apps that will do a great job. The old Winamp app (RIP Winamp) was great and can be found as an .apk with a bit of searching. I use Poweramp because it plays every audio format I throw at it, has a great widget with tremendous customization of both its visual interface and equalization, and it's also absolutely lightning fast. Zero lag, which I have not found with any other app. The free version is a fifteen-day trial, the full version costs a few bucks ($3.99, I think).
PowerAmp as i can add a wack tonne of bass without distortion and the stock clarity is amazing.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
get the free version then buy a license if you like it
One of the best things about Android is that there is no need for additional software to connect your phone to your computer. Just plug it in and it opens as a hard drive. Open the Music folder in your phone's hard drive or your SD card and you can just drag & drop files and folders. If the playlist is inside the same folder as the files it should be picked up automatically by your player of choice.
I use Poweramp for my locally-stored music files. It's super-fast and responsive, has great equalization options, a number of different interface customizations including a couple dozen different Widget styles, has full playlist support and can auto-start when I plug in my headphones. The free version is a trial, but I think the full version is completely worth the price.
If you're coming across files with bad titles/artists, it might be a tagging issue. You can easily check and correct tags on your PC with Foobar.
I don't think an Android phone is a "weird choice."
Pretty much any phone you get these days is going to come with an acceptable-quality audio processor, even a lower-tier one. You don't have to spend a lot to get great mobile audio, and if you really want to take it up a notch, you can get a dedicated headphone amp to take with you.
As far as expansion, the biggest microSD you can currently get is 200GB. Sandisk just released it a couple of weeks ago. It's like $400, though, so you might want to look at lower capacities unless money is no object.
So yeah, get an Android phone, get a big microSD, install the media player app of your choice (I like Poweramp), and start listening.
I've personally never tried any of these apps before, but they seem to support the feature so you could probably give them a try:
Oto music player - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp (Trial) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.piyush.music
Looking at Poweramp's features on their website, it lists Android Auto and Google Assistant support. Definitely worth look as it's one of the best offline music players out there.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I mean, why don't you give some apps you thought has good UI but don't have "minimalist, flat, 'clean', whitespace-riddled UI" ? That's the design trend today, so most of these apps are probably gonna have these design. Ask the question in 10-12 years ago, and it's probably full of apps with skeuomorphic design.
here's a good-looking app with somewhat different design
Poweramp - music player
Poweramp on Android. Best 5 bucks I ever spent at the play store.
On PC, MusicBee for listening & library management, foobar2000 for editing, ripping and converting.
SD card slot? Poweramp, Poweramp, Poweramp.
Best 6 bucks I ever spent on the play store.
You can also upload your entire library to YouTube Music and delete tracks right away if you don't like them.
You don't need a YouTube Subscription to play music from an SD card & I'm not sure why you thought you needed one. Just download Power Amp, I've linked the trial app below. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I would suggest Poweramp
It's a paid app (with a trial period) but it worth it, one of the first Android app I bought 10 years ago
Are you talking about local music for your own files? If so, I've been using power amp for like 12 years since the original droid. Still gets updated (was just updated less than a month ago).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US&gl=US

Gallery, they're all kinda the same. Try a couple out and see which one you like the most.
Actually, poweramp has been updated. But from what I understand they made a "new" one and the old one was left without updates.
Here's the link
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
As of writing this it was last updated in December 2020.
Well the main music player I've used for years (the one I recommend to anyone looking for an amazing player) allows you to specify the folders on the phone you want it to search for music. This is the main reason I can't drop it as my main player because surprisingly it isn't a feature in most players. Anyway because of this simple feature this is really the only player I use (the boxes aren't checked because I have only certain folders selected) but you can select the folder music you've bought and the folder you're gonna put the ripped music in. poweramp is what is called.
From my understanding, there's a 15 day free trial:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en&gl=US
Once that's passed, if you want to keep using the app, you need to buy the unlocker:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer.unlock&hl=en&gl=US
Maybe you got the app in the past during a free/promo phase?
Yep, it's too bad GPM is shutting down. Google's got a pretty impressive track record for killing off good things (see Picassa, Inbox, Chromecast Audio dongle, Google Reader, etc, etc.) YT Music interface on desktop and mobile for uploaded libraries is absolutely horrific.
That's why I have a 512 GB SD card and Poweramp on my phone. Casts to pretty much anything that has WiFi or Bluetooth.
tl;dr: Don't depend on anything ever except death and taxes.
My favorite is Poweramp.
Also Vinyl Music Player is good if you want a completely free player.
Except it depends on the app you are using. Take a look at Power AMP widgets. It even allows you to customize the color and many other options.
Edit: Google Play link
There are plenty of great 3rd party music apps on google play.
I'd recommend trying Poweramp ($5 app, very worth) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US
The built in equalizer is also pretty good.
For my Lossless Audio I'm using PowerAmp which has the option to use the built-in Hi-Res output instead of OpenSL like other apps do (Spotify). And yes I can hear the difference when I use my Shure SE535, it's definitely more clear and precise.
I compared the same album with Flac and m4a audio files, which I ripped directly from the original CD.
I tried an external USB-C DAC it made also a difference (less background noise) but it sometimes stopped playing music with Android 10, also without built-in battery it sucked my phones battery empty.
There is a 14 day trial app. It's an app more for audiophiles but if you mess around enough to learn how it works you'll never want to leave.
I think you should look into Poweramp on the play store. If it's local music you're trying to play, it's probably better than any native music player in Samsung's eco system. There's a free trial so you can evaluate whether you'd like to make the switch after which if you like the application, you can choose to buy it.
Here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I've tried many over the last 9 years before this was released & always come back to it, nothing compares from my POV.
I use poweramp music app and can turn on or off ducking. might wanna try it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US 50 million cant be wrong.
I'd recommend poweramp if you have .cue files you wanna play. Android can't read them but poweramp can.

have you heard of Poweramp, it was the first music player I bought when I was younger and on android. to me personally I think it was a pretty good for what it was.
link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
It looks like two of them are missing the cover art. The others have it embedded in the MP3.
I believe there are Android apps that can fix that.
The other option is to use a music player that will download missing cover art. and save it in a folder. I know PowerAmp does that.
Probably it's already mentioned.But <em>Poweramp Music player</em> and <em>it's unlocker</em> are definitely worth it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US
once you try this you will never find better, but its not a station player of tunes, it just plays mp3s on device.
now nearly all makes you pay premium.
the beta is nice. try it. Just apply for the trial (link). It fixes a lot of the issues I had and the interface is quite nice. As always, some bugs might appear, but are usually resolved on the next release. It's almost ready for a full release, so if you wait a bit more it should be around.
ive been through most of the equalizers on play store and most music players, combining music player's equalizer and equaliser only apps... long story short, poweramp v3 beta has the best equalizer and the visualizations are awesome
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I use poweramp only for the last year. no other has hi res, and a great equalizer.https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US
equalizer without headphones
It's part of Poweramp, a music player app I've used since my S4. Parts of the UI, namely the notification widget, simply do not function properly on my Pixel 2 XL unfortunately, so I'm looking for alternatives that I like.
I'm just so used to Poweramp, it's though to make the jump. I don't stream, I have gigs and gigs of MP3s, so the search is a daunting one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Well, copy the files to your phone, make sure they are not converted during the transfer and you are done. Maybe invest a couple of bucks for a decent Android Player like Poweramp.
Any decent headphone with a 3.5mm jack will be able to playback FLAC material.
I've also had this issue with both my V10 and V30. All my music is on my SD Card and I use Poweramp on both. Since the card is class 10, this really shouldn't be happening but I guess LG messed up as usual. My solution was to go into Settings>Audio>Advanced Tweaks>Audio Buffer size and set it to +250ms. My music hasn't skipped since!
I'm using Galaxy S8+ and while I'm listening to music with Poweramp music player AOD feature allows not only to see the songs but also switching between them. Check it out https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Say a Fiio A3 https://www.amazon.com/FiiO-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00MFMW29I
and an Equalizer/Amplifier Android Application https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
I use Poweramp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer on my phone and poweramp remote for android wear (which does voice) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nefastudio.android.nfpoweramp_wear
Both are paid apps, but poweramp is a fully featured 15 day trial and one of the best music players period.
If you are using android download Power amp! Even if you clear all your recent apps by accident Power amp will continue to run in the background. It also has a fully customisable EQ and a ton of features! Well worth it!
For android (My favorite) (Trial): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Plus $3.99 to unlock it to have full version forever: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer.unlock
It's a great music player as it can play multiple types of audio files and now it's cheaper than when I bought it a year or so ago.
You could try a different music app (such as Poweramp) to see if it offers different sorting options. Normally, GPM default sorts the songs by track number, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't be sorting them correctly.
I'm using the widget built-in to Poweramp, in the past I've used Phantom Music Control with other players and that widget can be configured to a similar effect.
Poweramp is a good music app that has a much stronger equalizer. Z5's basic equalizer is alright, but bass it definitely weaker than Poweramps
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
Poweramp is the shit. I love it.
EQ options are great (presets, save your own presets), sort by Artist, Album, Genre and more.
If you like sorting by Artist, it can sort by Artist > Year > Album. So if you have an artist who has an album titled B made in the year 1999 but also an album called A made in the year 2000, it would display B first (if you set it to do so).
Oh also: Browse by folder support, queue options, tag editor, customisable interface.
This is going to involve a lot of opinion, but if you want a great music app check out Poweramp. It's not perfect, but it fits my needs better than anything else I've tried. If you need some more info/reasoning let me know.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Use PowerAmp (link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en) - It automatically downloads the cover art for you. Even if you listen to something which does not have a cover art, then it will grab a random picture of the artist from the internet. I love it!
Poweramp has a preamp slider in the EQ settings that will boost the overall volume way higher than is good for your speakers.
Really the only limit is how much distortion you can tolerate - they're phone speakers, you can only push them so far before the sound quality suffers.
PowerAmp
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Has a equalizer, but this only works inside this one app, its not system wide and all music has to be downloaded.
AudioFX is system wide, works for phone calls, music, YouTube, Pandora, spotify, etc
AudioFX - http://imgur.com/JjPCqxz
Besides that root is best option cause you can do much more, add more features, adblock...
Cataclysm has a 6.0 rom too... Just not sure if you can get AudioFX working on 6.0 and 6.0 has a WiFi battery leak...
The stock app probably doesn't have that functionality. PowerAMP does what you're wanting to do.
Edit: Alternatively, use your computer and MP3Tag (free) to set the ID3 tags and album arts.
Icon pack: Voxel
Wallpaper: http://i.imgur.com/P6BOw2E.jpg
Widgets : the music one is packaged with Power Amp and the clock is a custom Zooper that can be provided if anybody wants it
I tried to make this work on PowerAMP, and everything seems to work fine except the second to last part.
>It also needs to have proper filters and tagging, so that if I put a compilation album on my phone that has 55 different artists.
I don't have any compilation album so you might want to try for yourself, but I created two mp3 files, with the same album artist, but different song artists. I named the Album Artist "One", and the Song Artists "Two" and "Three".
Then I went into the library, sorted albums by Artist, there's no album under "One" or under "Two", but there's the album sorted under "Three", which it seems to either have been picked at random or maybe because it's the last one that got copied over.
You might want to try it though, it does everything else you asked, maybe I didn't tag them properly and it might work with your library, hope this helps in any way.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
PowerAMP was the first app I paid for, and I think it might be the best music player out there for Android. If only I could use it to play files I've uploaded to Google Play Music...
If you install the app 'Poweramp' (it's much better than the default music player) you can turn it off in settings. Im not sure if it can be done any other way.
If you want a local music player, Poweramp is a venerable choice. I also like Bring for making shopping lists. Poweramp: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
Bring: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.publisheria.bring&hl=en
the shuffle feature on PowerAmp is by far superior to anything on the store right now. you can set gapless and crossfade. also comes with widgets and own lockscreen you can configure too
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp is a very feature rich player.
From the now playing screen you can tap and hold on the song name for a popup choice to go to the artist or album view of the current song. You can change the shuffle between lists w/ songs in order, songs and lists, etc.
You'll want to theme it since the default look is pretty ugly. Material Design Theme
I would suggest you to try out Poweramp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en and set the equalizer to loud. Also there is a trail version on the play store so if it doesn't work you don't need to buy it.
Poweramp is a great music player and has a built in amplifier. They have both trial version and a paid version, but the paid is well worth it. It can auto grab album art and has awesome features. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
After trying many media players on Android I found Poweramp and I have been using it for over a year. I love it.
In terms of customisation and fine tuning I would say Poweramp is the more generally accepted 'best' music player. I use Blackplayer Ex which can also be customised heavily. S2 Player, Oto player, Retro Player, Vinyl (Open Source) and AIMP are all pretty good imo.
Hands down, it's Poweramp
Poweramp is my weapon of choice.
Poweramp cost a few bucks, but definitly worth it
The redesign of Poweramp looks great.
I personally use PowerAmp but used BlackPlayer quite a bit on my older phone for simplicity's sake.
Edit: Hyperlinks
It sounds the best, and the v3 ui is actually decent.
For locally stored music, I use Poweramp. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I have actually been searching all day for a new Music Player. The most commonly recommended seem to be (Sorry, I'm probably forgetting some) :
They are all above average music players, and each has their benefits. I just can't seem to find one that has the best features of each and just hits the mark.
The features I am looking for are (and my opinions on the best apps):
Good UI - they all are acceptable but I prefer GPM, n7player, Shuttle+
Good sound features (ReplayGain, Gapless, Crossfade, EQ. etc.) - Poweramp, GoneMAD, PlayerPro
Ratings and Smart Playlists - GoneMAD, PlayerPro, Rocket Player (Although I'm yet to find one which can combine smart playlists easily.)
Album/Artist art and Lyric retrieval - Most are acceptable but I really don't like how I have to pay extra for Rocket Player
Easy Queue editing - PlayerPro, Poweramp, n7player, GoneMAD
Cheap - I am a student and am strapped for cash (and payment is a hastle for me in my country)
Good support from the developers - Shuttle+ and GoneMAD (are the two that I have seen so far)
I have narrowed it down to my personal favourites, Poweramp (Lacks smart playlists), PlayerPro (Not a fan of the UI and it doesn't feel solid IMO) and GoneMAD. But they just don't check all the boxes so I'm left wanting more.
TL;DR - I'm extremely picky, but its justified as the music player is the most used app on my phone
EDIT - GoneMAD is pretty awesome and the trial has served me well for the past two weeks, I definitely recommend it.
Poweramp is the best in the game.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp does it for me. Great UI, nice themes, and equalizer stuff that I don't get but looks like it might be useful. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp is the most powerfull music player I've ever tried. The pro version cost a few bucks, but it's worth its price.
Nothing beats Poweramp's own built in EQ. It looks like shit but I use it for the music
Poweramp has been recently updated. That's what I'm using at the moment.
Phonograph looks great but lacks in features.
Another powerful music player with lots of options is GoneMAD music player but it hasn't ben updated in a while. Version 3 is being developed right now so not quite ready for prime time but promising.
Retro music player is refreshingly different .
poweramp beta. all paid. mine is one version ahead.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en_US
Bass boost will not damage the headphone, but at some point will clip the output, meaning you will hear a crackling sound every time the bass hits. this doesn't damage the headphones, but is really not what someone trying to achieve high fidelity should aim for :P
If you are using a PC I recommend the EQ suite
the peace GUI comes with tons of presets and options to tweak the sound to your liking.
For Android devices I'd recommend getting a good audio player. PowerAmp is really worth its money, comes with tons of EQ and playback features and can also handle external DACs
Poweramp should remove that itch
Power Amp, it may not be the best looking player but I found its the best out there.
Some music players have this option. Poweramp is one of the best, and comes as a 15-day trial. It's $3.99 after that. It isn't very pretty, but this free skin brings it up to date with Google's Material design. Anyway, Poweramp can begin playing music when you plug in, and also it can pause music when you unplug. Both are optional.
This requires a custom ROM or an Xposed module. GravityBox can do this, but it's not made for forks of Android, like Samsung's TouchWiz, or HTC's Sense. It's only for stock Android, and some things will not work. Many ROMs include it, though, so if you're going to go that way, you should look up your carrier's variant of the S6 on XDA and see what's available. Probably not much as the S6 is so new. But I heard it's been rooted, and that's probably the biggest step toward unlocking it, if that hasn't been done already. If you're wondering, there are basically three steps to owning an Android phone, as opposed to the one on iPhone in jailbreaking. First there's root. Acquiring administrator privileges, and delegating it to apps. Next is unlocking the bootloader. This may already be done. This allows the stock OS to be replaced. And finally, custom recovery. The recovery is like a tiny OS that lets you manage your device. This allows you to flash custom ROMs. The S6 has root, but I have no idea about the other two.
Android can do that one better (IMO) but again, custom ROMs. It's a somewhat uncommon feature, but it's out there. It adds arrows to the navigation bar, to the left and right of the three usual ones. Or you can get a keyboard with a dedicated arrow row, like Swiftkey. But yeah, on its own, moving the cursor in Android SUCKS. It never goes where you want.
The best ad blocker is by far AdAway, and you'll need root to install it. Of course it's not in the Google Play store. Google does not allow ad blockers, since ads are how they make much of their money. They also don't allow custom app repositories, so Google "F-Droid." That's a free and open source repository — everything is free. There's nothing to buy, and it's all 100% legal. There are some gems, but a lot of crap. But they have ad blockers, and they also have emulators, something Google has flip-flopped on (they now allow them, but they used to ban them). Anyway, YouTube ads are handled differently. There's an Xposed module called YouTube AdAway that blocks the YouTube ads.
Poweramp with Luminous Black skin
I know it's repeated a lot, but the updated Poweramp v3 has very nice animations
Poweramp does this
I use PowerAmp and it does this. It is my favorite Android Music Player. You do have to buy it though. The app costs $4.
Sadly, without root only Poweramp and BlackPlayer have audible manipulations enough to stand out (but not really beat the rooted ones). Currently I'm using Stelio which has music effects, quite surprisingly, better than both the above mentioned. I love stelio... just for the sound effects ☺️
Poweramp has this feature.
I used PoweAMP before switching to GPM completely.
But there's Apolo, which I used for years with my S3.
Poweramp all the way!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
I prefer Poweramp
Poweramp by Max MP Here
The trial version of poweramp has all the features except restoring in-app backups.
also +1 for Poweramp
PowerAmp? : - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
Have the pro version for years.
Do anyone know what's up with the Development? It seems to be not Updated since April 2016.
Also how this compared to PlayerPro?
And how better is the Sound Quality/Engine compared to music players that are using Android's built-in media player like Shuttle, BlackPlayer etc?
I like Poweramp. Can't say if it's the best, I haven't tried everything. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
Check out PowerAmp on playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Another recommendation for Poweramp.
It'll play damn near everything.
Here is the link
poweramp been using this for 6 years, can't think of anything that would make it better
foobar 2000 this one is meh and not appealing
Onkyo HF. This one is meh as well
Neutron never used this one but I know some fellow music hoarders that do
For streaming local media stored on the PC: If your PC is networked I'd install Emby server (the freeware is more than adequate for home usage) on it, Emby Android/iOS on my phone to access the PC, and stream away to the Chromecast - My own setup is exactly that, and it works beautifully.
For streaming local media stored on your phone: Poweramp, which is arguably the best Android music player currently, has recently added Chromecast support.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
By the way, Chromecast Audio's are still around (despite being discontinued) at a reasonable price, for when you don't want to/can't stream to the one attached to the TV.
Enjoy...
Poweramp, UI isn't the best tbh but the equalizer and sound engine and all the settings it offers are the best in my opinion.
Yes, use an app like PowerAmp that has it own lock-screen that overrides the default.
Power Amp music player (if you have locally stored music)
Google Keep (notes and lists with sharing capabilities)
Google Opinion Rewards (free Play Store credit for simple, 3-4 question surveys from time to time)
New Pipe (add-free YouTube player, not available in the Play Store)
Simple Gallery (Simple, intuitive photo gallery with a nice built in photo editor)
Poweramp does the job pretty well for several years already.
IMHO Poweramp is your best option
Power AMP Beta (has a lot more features than the normal version) and USB Player. And the Search Engine on qbit
Antes do Spotify, utilizava muito o Poweramp como player offline, é o player mobile mais completo que eu já vi.
That's the unlocker. You need the actual app for it to function.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
maybe poweramp? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
and it's on sale if i'm not mistaken
Try power amp player for free trial and see if the EQ works. But an over all sound output EQ will need root access. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp does this.
These three are best poweramp neutron music player usb audio player pro
If you download songs then get poweramp, I've used a shitload of music players but this ones the best
These three are best poweramp neutron music player usb audio player pro
The first step is to download an app named Poweramp on your Samsung Fold 4. It has a 30-day trial, but I strongly recommend that you buy the application full version unlocker. It is the ONLY application that I have bought from the Google Play Store in my 11 years of using Android because it's just that good.
Now that you have downloaded the application, you should know that it plays music, and has one of the best programmed equalizers on the market, even better than ones on IOS and Windows.
Your next step should be to change your equalizer settings for the XM3s. I also have an XM3, which I have been using for more than 2.5 years on a daily basis. I am going to share you my equalizer setting HERE. I got these values from the AUTO EQ GitHub, and tweaked them only a LITTLE BIT according to my own taste.
Now, once you have set your equalizer, you have two choices:
1) either listen to music with a wired connection (with the XM3 turned on),
2) or just wirelessly via Bluetooth.
If you travel a lot, I would recommend that you stick with the wireless option, but please make sure that you are using the "LDAC" codec on your Bluetooth device. LDAC is the best codec for Bluetooth. If you don't know much about how to know which codec your XM3s are running at the moment, please use YouTube to find out.
If you want to get more dynamic range and loudness, insert an aux cable, turn on the XM3, and listen to the EQUALIZED music on your Fold 4.
Disclaimer: You should make sure that once you set the equalizer settings, listen to the music for a few days before you go back to the original XM3 sound, so that you can know how bad they sound initially. For me, it was a night and day difference.
Application called : Poweramp

Unfortunately you have to purchase after the trail version .
I use Power Amp.

Poweramp music player. Has a paid version as well.
I was researching this as well and you're right that the Apple dongle is limited to .5 Volts on Android. Something about the OS not setting hardware volume correctly on some 3rd party dongles.
The Google Dongle can reach its full volume natively. But that apparently isn't much to begin with and its noise/distortion performance doesn't even achieve CD quality.
However. Many audio player apps can/will bypass the Android audio driver and directly control the DAC volume. UAPP is being mentioned all the time. I myself however couldn't find any clear statement that UAPP would work with my inline mic (foobar, for example did not), and since I care about that, went with Poweramp. It is set up to allow proper volume by default, called Direct volume Control.
With Poweramp, volume is still a far cry from my LG G6. But LG phones are known for their better than usual DAC/Amp performance and I think the Apple dongle is "good enough" for now.
Here's another set you can give a go. These are based on the 2018 harman curve. Ideally you should use a parametric EQ for it, I use APO for Windows and Poweramp for Android.
We are on the same page. So, here is the one. I believe you will love it. Poweramp :) I have been using it for years :)
There is definitely no shortage of local music players, before I switched to streaming I used Poweramp Music Player.
I only know Poweramp but it's paid
You forgot the best one, Poweramp ;)
PowerAmp. Hands down the best player for local music imho. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Poweramp. Simply the best for Android.
Poweramp. It is simply the best player for Android.
So I guess it's not called dbpoweramp. Just poweramp. Not sure if they're related.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
For me its been always Poweramp
Android, because...
MicroSD card. Personally speaking, I love music, and I am not a fan of streaming/not owning it. I've got a 512 GB microsd card in my phone. I have 350 GB of my music on my phone. I use Poweramp to manage it and can cast audio to any of my WiFi or Bluetooth connected devices with speakers.
Movies. I can copy over movies from one of my hard drives to my phone via USB and cast them with VLC or Cast to TV to my TVs. Or anyone else's smart TV or Chromecast or Roku.
You don't need iTunes to manage your phone. This in itself is a win. You just connect your phone with via USB to copy files back and forth. Want to make your own ringtones? Fire up Audacity, grab a part of a song you like, copy it over to the Ringtones folder on the phone. Just did one today, as a matter of fact.
Windows 10 Your Phone. If you can get it to work, it does more with Android than it does with Apple.
Android Studio. Not Windows specific, but very cool nonetheless. You can remove OEM or carrier installed bloatware with it, too.
>i just purchased a Galaxy S10 and i was wondering if there were any tips for:
Congrats on your new purchase; because some others already answered some questions, I'll just add a bit
>2) a painless way of transferring music from iTunes (particularly with album art etc.), like a good music app that is not Spotify
I dunno how iTunes works but if it allows you to play music offline without a subscription, since google play music is getting murdered by the end of the year, I recommend Poweramp (free trial but $5 for full thing) because it allows you to tweak a lot of individual sound settings to make the music sound better or towards your preferences.
>3) any general things that someone who has never ever used Android/Samsung should know
While not having the apple walled garden is nice, don't go overboard. If you're going to install from third party websites (i.e. not google play), make sure the site is trustworthy or you trust it first, otherwise its a great way to get malware on your new phone. Google protects against a lot of possibilities, but it won't 100% protect you against everything. So be mindful with your downloads.
>4) any must-have apps for the s10, or features that i should immediately enable/disable, or the like
I think one of the biggest must-haves (imo) is Youtube Vanced because it allows you to play yt video in background, removes (video) ads, and skip parts of videos with sponsor info. In a way its sort of like having yt premium without yt premium.
Other than that, if you don't like website ads, android Firefox allows add-ons, so just let it install Ublock Origin and you should be good to go on that part
disable: kind of depends what your use case is, but I disabled/uninstalled most of the bloatware that came with the phone. I don't use Facebook or its other apps so i turned them off, same with amazon kindle, amazon music, briefing, duo, chrome, game launcher (not a gamer, don't need it), onedrive.
Enable: if its not already, AndroidAuto is nice especially if you have a car that can support it (can work both wirelessly or wired depending on your car). Enable dev options (settings > about phone > software information > mash the Build Number section a bunch of times), this has a lot of stuff/uses (so google if want to know)
This phone also let's you decide between gesture navigation or buttons, both are nice. gestures feel a bit smoother animation wise and easier to use with one hand, but swiping for a side panel in an app can sometimes cause issues. Buttons are a bit more reliable in my opinion, though if your thumbs can't reach from left to right side, you might need two hands to click the far left/right button.
Poweramp. Best 5 bucks I ever spent at the store.
Android? Poweramp. Best 5 bucks you'll ever spend at the play store.
Try Poweramp
Try Poweramp
Yeah, an SD card and Poweramp. Best $5 I've ever spent at the Play store.
If you're willing to spend a couple bucks I'd say Poweramp , which is what I use, and a skin like Luminous for added customization.
As for a free player, most popular recommendation nowadays seems to be Musicolet , but I haven't tried it myself.
Sidenote, I think Music Player GO looks great but I'd love just some more features, at least cover display.
Poweramp. Best 5 bucks I ever spent at the store.
Poweramp. Best 5 bucks I ever spent at the store.
Its pretty nice.
I think Poweramp has skip feature but not sure if it is customizable to 20 seconds.
Poweramp is nice one.
Found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer In settings there's an access to media volume sync
Download Poweramp ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer ), and in the "Audio info" section( https://ibb.co/60GqCC1 ), which is in the lower part of the center, it will show what the Audio output is, if you keep pressing it it will show the complete information( https://ibb.co/GkKp3xV). .The links are images of where is the section that I mentioned.
I'm using the full version of Poweramp Music Player.

If the latter i recommend you install either: Poweramp, Retro Music Player, GoneMad or Shuttle
//Note: I know poweramp looks outdated, the updated v3 is coming shortly, with many more features and a complete redesign. You can become a beta tester to try it out before release. It's pretty stable already.
Maybe you are confusing it with the smart phone age Poweramp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer)?
Try Power amp. It's not free, but it has a free trial, you can check if it is what you need before you bought it.

Music Player: Poweramp, Retro Music Player. Use Scroball for Last.fm scrobbling.
Video Player: VLC
Browser: Set Firefox Focus as your default so that clicks from any other app will automatically open in a window that will be purged after ending the session. Use Chrome/Brave browser as your main app.
Wallpaper: Google Wallpapers, Backdrops, Wallrox.
Weather: Weather Timeline is pretty slick. Another personal favorite is Fu***y Weather. It is filled with swear words. Absolutely hilarious app. Get it OP.
Reddit apps: You have many excellent apps like Boost, Relay, Joey, the official app. Choose any of the many you like. I personally use Boost.
Launcher: Microsoft Launcher is pretty great.
PDF reader and editor: Xodo
Miscellaneous: Google Opinion Rewards gives you credits you can use to buy stuff from the Play Store. You have to answer the questions sent in surveys. Blokada is an adblocker. You have to get it from its website.
Audiobook player: Smart Audiobook Player.
Photo editing: Snapseed.
File sharing: Google Files Go or Xiaomi's Mi Drop. Use them for peer to peer file transfers over WiFi.
File manager: Solid Explorer, , MiXplorer.

Noooope.
I sub to GPMAA so I just use the Play Music app. I don't keep anything local since I'm on T-Mobile.
Years ago on my HTC EVO 4G I would use Poweramp. It was pretty nice. Winamp and AIMP also have mobile apps. I have no idea what's popular these days because most people are subbed to a streaming service so they just use those apps. If you want to sync with a desktop player, I would look at doubletwist.
Have you tried seeing if the files will play in Poweramp? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer
Located In Canada
Budget - up to $200
Source - Android Phone LG G3 - Poweramp And Windows 10 PC when I'm home.
Requirements for Isolation - Will be using on Public Transport
Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes mainly on the bus to and from college.
Preferred Type of Headphone -IEMS
Preferred tonal balance - Balanced with strong vocals. I don't want the beat of the music to overpower the vocals.
Past headphones - Sennhesier Momentum - I loved the sound. However the cord has begun tearing near the plug. I wouldn't mind a replaceable cord.
UrBeats - Bass was too strong. Didn't like it very much. Cord also ripped. That seems to be the #1 cause towards the death of my headphones.
Preferred Music -Hiphop/Rap
Personal Favourites - Clock Work Indigio - Butterfly Effect
What would you like to improve on from your set-up - Replaceable Cable would be nice but isn't a requirement.
Been looking at Shure SE215's and Mee Audio P1
I'm sorry to hear you had such crap experience with the head unit. I hope you get your money back for it. I guess that's one more for /u/Tec_ to add to the against-Android head units list.
What's the model number of the head unit? was it CANBUS enabled? I've considered getting a newer one myself as I've been pretty happy with mine but reading this makes me wonder if I should just keep it.
I guess it's kind of too late now but...
I 100% agree that the stock music apps sucks ass. It's the only app that reads CDs AFAIK but for music stored on an SD card, Poweramp with CarService is the way to go.
As for GPS app, almost nothing is compatible with 4.2.2 anymore which mine runs so I ended up at OsmAnd which uses Open Street Map maps. It lacks a 3D view at the moment but there's a slightly "less featured" app called Magic Earth that also uses OSM. Both supports offline maps and custom storage location so you can save the maps to your SD card.
, according to the Play Store listing.
Plenty of Android phones other than Samsungs.
If you do make the switch, be sure to check out Poweramp, BlackPlayer, and Shuttle+ Music Player.
Blackplayer is free, Shuttle+ has a lite version, I think, otherwise is a dollar if I remember right. PowerAmp is a paid app, but has a 10 or 14 day trial. I settled on PowerAmp for the massive 10 band slider+ more EQ customization and simple playlist setups, but among the three you're bound to find a solid player.
In order to play an mp4 file, you need to use a music player and not a gallery app, which is typically used for viewing pictures. What you're getting is a file-incompatibility error - the gallery app doesn't know what to do/how to handle this file format. Try using your pre-installed media player or download one of these from the Play Store and see if any of those will play the file.
So you've never bought an app that uses an unlocker app. Here, I'll show you.
This is Poweramp, arguably the best music player on Android. However, it is only a 15 day trial. If you have the Google Now Launcher, and this is the only Poweramp icon you have in your drawer, after 15 days the app will not function at all, unless you have a pirated copy.
If you want to keep using Poweramp after 15 days, you must buy this app. This app will show up in the Google Now Launcher's app drawer. My wife has it, and it shows up in her drawer. I have Nova, and I have it hidden.
Furthermore, if you want Poweramp to not look like ass, you can install the Material Skin. This also shows up in GNL's drawer, but again, Nova can hide it. My wife has three Poweramp icons in her drawer, with no way to hide it (she won't let me root it, flash Xposed, and install XGELS).
But wait, this topic is about Nova Launcher. Nova Launcher is, for all intents and purposes, a free app. You don't have to pay a dime to use it. But if you want to do things like hide apps from the drawer, you need to buy Nova Prime. The Prime unlocker simply unlocks more features in the base app. You can uninstall it, but then you're back to the free Nova launcher.
If you want unread counts, you also need to install TeslaUnread. Three icons in the drawer. Apex is the same way. App, unlocker, notifier.
I started with a Galaxy S phone, but not the prime model. I had the Acclaim. A real piece of shit by anyone's standards. I don't care for Samsung, but that was a bad phone. 160MB of RAM, 20MB for apps. It was called a Galaxy S phone, but I'm sure the true Galaxy S was not that bad. So I think we've been in it about the same amount of time. 2010? Surprised you've never bought an app unlocker.
Oh, one app unlocker you do NOT want is Titanium Backup's. I cannot recommend Titanium enough, but if you buy it on his website, you pay less, and he gets a bigger cut, due to cutting Google out. Also, your unlocker is a text file. Stick it in the root directory of your internal storage (/sdcard or whatever, not /) and bam, free version gets unlocked. I have it on my wife's tablet. Technically that might be cheating, but I consider myself the tablet's sysadmin, I manage it, I keep it backed up, I keep it up to date (it's a Nexus 7 2013, so it has an active dev community), and most of all, I bought it. So it's really my tablet, I just don't use it as a consumer device, I simply manage it. So that's cool that I can do that without having to pay for a second license (or add my Google account to the tablet).
Hi. The gold standard music players on Android seem to be:
Poweramp (My personal favorite)
And GoneMAD
All of these are trial players and will cost you a bit, but considering that android apps travel with your google account across all of your devices, it's worth the investment. They're also packed to the brim with various advanced functionality. The stock players that come with most phones are trash in any case.
If your laptop and phone are on the same wifi network, you can use something like Airdroid to move files into your phone, no cables needed.
You could also load your music files into a micro-sd card and play them that way.
Anyway, once you move your files onto your phone, you may need to set your music player to look for music in whatever place you moved it to (depends on which app) and then re-scan your music library (again, this depends on which app) so that the player app sees them.
Anyway this is a general guide, please ask if you need more detailed instructions.
Try this one out and tell me what happens. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
I think PowerAmp can do that. You just go into the Tone/Volume settings and switch balance to one ear or the other.

I'm still on KitKat so it works perfectly.
I would checkout Poweramp, it's a great player
Also yeah, big deal, i don't care about iPhone nor the downvotes people gave because of that.
If you're just asking for a MP3 player then I'd suggest poweramp
Otherwise google music is a great alternative to spotify. Allows you to upload your own music. I have a 64gb card which I use a sizable portion (20-30GB) to save playlists and albums for offline play.
Everything you want is in Wugfresh. I just recently jumped from 4.4 to 5.1 using Wugfresh to install the new image, unlock the bootloader and get root access within half an hour. Very simple to use and will find all your files for you. Also has troubleshooting menus if you have a hard time connecting your phone.
I use Poweramp and I still have a lock screen control.May be the app you are using hasn't been updated to support Lollipop. Might try the Poweramp app to see if that works for. Link is the 2 week trial.
First, there is a free trial version.
Second, it's $3.99. Suck it up and accept that things of value have value. Poweramp is the best, fastest, most responsive music player you can get.
