Citymapper has been doing for years. One of the best and most reliable apps on Android IMO.
Glad to see Google is stepping up its game though, since this ought to be by default on Android phones it'll be a big plus for Maps user, and without having to use an external app.
Not knowing exactly which bus stop to get down at was the only reason why I did not take buses when I initially moved to Singapore.
But then I found apps like Citymapper and Moovit. If you select a route you're taking they let you know when you are arriving at your bus stop.
Also I don't know if everyone knows about this (took me quite a while to figure out) but the card tapping machines on the buses display the name of the current stop. It changes to the approaching bus stop when you get close to it.
Citymapper - works wonderful for transportation. It works with Metro, Bus, Cercanías, the Taxi app that you have installed on your phone (Uber, Hailo), Car2Go, BiciMad... And it has a wonderful interface!

> Grab a map of the subway and keep it handy.
Personally though I can really recommend the "Citymapper" app for your phone for this.
This app features digital versions of the subway map, available to view offline.
But it also gives the option to plan and set a journey and save it offline, so you can even easily access it while underground.
Sounds like an advertisement (And I think in some way I'm just doing that xD) But this app has already helped be a great deal when I was in Tokyo, London and Amsterdam. Really useful if you're planning on travelling with public transport.
Now any 'verbal' advertisement wouldn't be complete if I didn't add a Apple and Android url.
Citymapper was invaluable to me during a recent trip to London.
They cover a limited number of cities, so be sure to check the list.
Citymapper is probably the best one that I've seen from a holistic view. Converted a ton of my friends to it as well. It doesn't show the exact position of it, but does real time updates for how many minutes until the bus arrives to your location. Only downside is it doesn't really take detours into account if a bus is rerouted, that's the only reason I still use the Septa app.
Good improvements, but for transit services, it seems like Maps is quite some time out from being comparable to CityMapper. Why do I love CityMapper? Because everything is delayed in my city, and I love being able to prepare around delayed times, instead of scheduled times >_>
>Is Mastercard Debit accepted everywhere ?
Yes, but take 2 different cards, just in case
>Like if I land at Heathrow and want to take a taxi
Use public transport whenever possible faster and cheaper.
Install Citymapper before you come, use it to plan your journey. Google maps also works for directions and public transport.
For the buses and tube use contactless bank card (touch in - touch out) or buy an oyster card at the station and top it up as you need it at the ticket m/c.
If you're in a city supported by Citymapper, it is vastly superior to Google Maps for public transport. I'm in Google's own backyard (SF Bay Area) and there are a ton of transport options completely absent from Maps which Citymapper picks up, as well as a feature telling you if you can save x amount of time for the price of y dollars by splitting the journey into public transport + Uber, if your destination isn't near a transit stop.
There is competition out there, at least on the android side. citymapper and transit app are both pretty nice. No clue if these are available on the app store.
I like CityMapper, which is brilliant, though only covers large cities.
Moovit is pretty good too and seems to work in rural areas. Probably uses the Google Maps data, but gives you proper directions when using public transport. With GMaps, it seems you can only get guidance for car/walking/bike.
Right, here it is!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
You install it on your watch, and it requires the app to be installed on your phone as well. They communicate flawlessly like Maps should on WearOS 3, the only issue so far is performance/delay but nothing too serious
Another good app I've used is called Citymapper. I've used Transit as well. While Transit is better at finding actual schedules, Citymapper I find is better at mapping and tracking.
This app is all you need. It's the ultimate city transport app. . Uses very little data, it tells you EVERYTHING. Has a brilliant commute widget that maps out the fastest route to work and home using live information and it's a fun app to use too with 0 ads.
Also on Apple app store too.
Citymapper is the best bet to get a guaranteed good route, especially so in London.
However being Gatwick I would expect, and hope, that being an important route it would be unaffected.
Provides cost estimates and ETA for transit, cabs, Uber, Car2Go, biking and Bixi, you name it. Can track locations and navigate you to them with a click, plus automatic commute tracking for home and work addresses if you enable it and give your hours. Still slick despite all the features, and my phone is garbage. Highly recommend it.
wow that looks ancient. I recommend something more fleshed out like CityMapper. It has real time GPS tracking wherever it's available and it works great in my city. In fact, I use CityMapper for city commutes most of the time and Google Maps when I need to travel somewhere outside city limits.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
citymapper can do that and it's also a fantastic city commuting tool. On par or in some cases better even than Google Maps. I use Citymapper when I need to look up directions in a city (that is supported, of course) and for all other directions, I use Google Maps. Only downside is that if you choose to allow notifications on any public transit changes like delays, it will notify you every day and there doesn't seem to be a way to change when or at what intervals you'd rather be notified. So it can feel a bit spammy.
Google Maps is awesome, but City Mapper is quickly becoming a favorite transit app of mine. Alerts you when you're near your stop and also has live GPS public transit tracking.
I actually can know the exact time with a pretty good degree of accuracy thanks to CityMapper
My problem is I never think to use it, and instead am just like "ok, it's time to go"...then I sit there for 10-15 minutes on my phone cursing WMATA under my breath.
That being said, I'd much prefer they make metro more convenient, with more cars, on the weekends. I personally wouldn't even mind paying more.
If you have Android, I can't recommend CityMapper enough. I think it's also on iPhone, but I'm too lazy to check.
The metro and bus times are always accurate. It shows uber pricing (and surge pricing), provides walking directions, and you can save addresses (like home, work, girlfriends place, etc.). It's an amazing app.
I've heard good things about Citymapper and nycTrans, but I don't have personal experience.
for 4 days, get a 7 day unlimited metrocard, think its $31. I almost spent that much in pay per ride after 3 days there. It'll be $2.50 (on march 22, goes up to 2.75) per ride so you'd only need 12 rides to break even. It's nice to hop on the subway for a short ride and not have to worry about it. Wait for people to get off the train before you try and get on. Wear some comfortable walking shoes, you're gonna walk A LOT.
If you need to look up stuff on your phone, find a place off to the side instead of stopping in the middle of the sidewalk. bring a battery pack for your phone, cuz looking up directions and the like kills your battery. Foursquare is great for dining options around you, that's what I used to find places to eat.
the Citymapper app was invaluable, it'll tell you exactly what train/bus you need to get on to get where you're going, along with ETAs.
android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release&hl=en iphone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/citymapper-ultimate-transit/id469463298?mt=8
If you're asking for directions or help, get straight to the point. the 'excuse me, i was wondering if you could help me' is too wordy for new yorkers, I experienced this first-hand lol. Honestly there were a few rude people up there but really they're just straight to the point.
The other comments are spot on, I just spent 3 days there a few weekends ago.
For public transport I suggest Citymapper, official apps like GTT To move are very low in quality.
VISA and MasterCard are accepted almost everywhere. TAXI may not always accept credit-cards, when booking one be clear about your payment preferences.
I would rather bring a small amount (~100-200 Euro) in cash too , just in case.
Could you by any chance check the app CityMapper to see if it differs in any way from both of those routes? Its the app I use for walik/bike/public transport. Just curious
I like Citymapper a lot with its options for "Quiet," "Regular," and "Fast."
All 3 are often more intelligent than Google maps', and "Quiet" is especially nice in places that aren't very safe or comfortable - I've been amazed by the routes its found at times.
It also is smart enough to realize sometimes its faster and/or safer to simply walk your bike a short length and then get back on, and tells you to do so with dotted lines. Oftentimes you can just bike slowly on those parts but its at your discretion.
It can't work magic if there's literally nothing at all to work with, but as someone who gets sent to multiple different workplaces if they're short - it has made several of them not only shorter and safer, but quieter, more meditative, and put less of a crik in my neck from the stress.
Bonus: merge pe mai multe orase (e.g. Londra, New York) si iti zice cate frunze salvezi cand mergi pe jos.
Citymapper shows me the correct exit when trying a route from Karlsplatz to Seisgasse and correctly ide tifies kolschitzkygasse as the preferred exit

Go to Versailles too, visit the castle :) Also, the app citymapper is great to plan your journey in public transports around Paris.
Bet way to go is to download this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
You will get help to find the best trip to go from A to B and all the transportation maps
I've not used it, but sounds like this one provides real-time status, don't think relies on being crowdsourced.

Have you tried Citymapper? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release It works (and looks) great on the watch.
I use citymapper for this. They do pull the bus locations (along a line map) and arrival time from somewhere, and can also track which stop you are at along your journey (and thus provide alerts to get off as well). Have been using it for a couple of years and it has been quite accurate. Also bonus points for have default daily commute settings.
Tanto o Cytimapper como o Moovit te mostram o caminho.

Hands down the best public transport app I've ever used in the area. Not sure if it'll help you here, but I thought I'd shill for it anyway!
If you're going to spend some time in major cities, get Citymapper. It's not big on offline, but it gives great public transport instructions in London, Paris, Madrid etc...major cities only, but it's indispensable there!
Citymapper, for public transit scheduling.
For every city I visit I used to use custom apps for each public transit system. Now I just use one, and not only does it look better but it includes tons of features that most of the individual apps don't.
I try to keep my apps FOSS (cuz I'm one of those people) but this is one proprietary app I've just fallen in love with.
You may want to try City Mapper to get an idea of the trip. In my experience it's a little more reliable with regard to times than Google Maps.
These have been around for a while in London. My personal favourite for the Underground too is Citymapper (supports many major cities, not just London/England).
The list in order as they appear.
Citymapper?? This is like the only public transportation app.
Citymapper - probably the most useful app for public transportation on Android.
My friends and I did the same last year!
If you want to travel around, use an oyster card. It's like a card for public transport. More info here: https://www.visitbritainshop.com/world/london-visitor-oyster-card/

The ATM's at the airport/railroads have pretty high service costs, use the ones near supermarkets in the city.
It can get pretty hot in London but it can also rain heavily, keep this in mind when you pack.
The Metro's are (almost?) 24/7, check their times in the citymapper app in advance to make sure.
-- Have fun at the festival!
> the subway
That's a sandwich shop here. What you're looking for is the Tube.
And yes, the Tube is very easy to navigate. The map is straightforward, and the Underground has a design policy going back decades with regard to easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate station signage.
Pro-tip: order a visitor's Oyster card now and they'll deliver it to you in Canada. It's only £3 but you'll actually save over paper tickets doing things this way, as paper ticket prices are extortionate.
Before you leave, download Citymapper (iOS/Android) as this will give you far more accurate transport information from point to point than Google Maps.
My recommendation would be to get the Picadilly line from Heathrow to the West End (Picadilly Circus or Leicester Square), walk around a little bit and then go on to check out a museum or two. They're free! You can walk to the Houses of Parliament (Big Ben) and Buckingham Palace easily around that area too.
Here's what I use:
Some more specialized apps I have include:
Loyalty Card Keychain (Manages barcode-based store/loyalty cards on your phone)
I'd like to say that CityMapper app (for android and iOS) is infinitely better than the RATP app, and you should definitely download that instead. It is very user-friendly and has a lot of really awesome features.
For that I use City mapper
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
City mapper, if you're on android. Works okay even without service most of the time.
City Mapper is mandatoryyyy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
I personally like City Mapper - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release

Apparently they both have same name!!!
Citymapper ftw! Works great even when travelling overseas in other major cities.
Download Citymapper! It's the best for public transportation all over big cities around the world.
If you have an android phone, this is pretty nice: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
there is now an update in the play store. its a shame that the prob was only with OPO as the app is essential for any londoner https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
ProximiT isn't on Android, but I really like CityMapper. I don't remember if they have a widget though.
I used Citymapper with CaBi but don't know of one that integrates to the degree you seek.
The RER B train runs every day, however, there are planned closures on several upcoming weekends that will impact airport service.
On November 19th and 20th, and December 10th and 11th, there will be no RER line B trains between Gare du Nord and Aulnay-sous-Bois. This means that service between the airport and Paris is cut off during this time. There will be rail replacement buses, but I would not recommend taking these as they will probably be a crowding nightmare.
The journey planners I would recommend are the one on ÎdFM's website as well as the smartphone app Citymapper ^(App Store Google Play). They are specifically geared to work with transit directions and their routes are usually good. Although my advice is to always input place names and not station names, unless you are adamant that you must get a train from/to that exact station. Usually not the case for most.
Since you didn't specify your destination, I put Hôpital-Saint-Louis Garden as an example. For this destination, most of the journey planners suggest to take bus 351 to the outskirts of Paris, where you can catch metro line 3 into town. However, you probably want to go to the journey planners yourself and input your actual destination.
Bus fares are very cheap at €1.90 each if bought before boarding. If you transfer to the metro, you need to buy another ticket. On the ticket machine, look for T+ tickets.
I highly recommend downloading Citymapper vs using the DRT Schedule app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
Citymapper and Moovit are both amazing and very similar, they will get you from point A to point B.
Madrid Transporte is good to watch arrival times of next bus/train/metro, as the previous ones sometimes don't work.
Metro de Madrid Official does the same but only for metro.
I suggest using this app, it has been extremely useful when I was traveling in other cities.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
Είχα και εγώ το Moovit παλιά. Το Citymapper είναι καλύτερο.

I am using this app and it works really well:

Citymapper can give you a good overview of what is available around you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release This app helps you join up the different buses, trains and boats. Most journeys you can pay for with contactless now.
I know I'm late to the party, but if you're using public transport, you should absolutely download Citymapper.
This app gives realtime info on NMBS delays. I don't get why Google Maps / Now can't.
>Esistono buone app mappe che segnalino posti rilevanti, stazioni metro e whatnot?
I go by CityMapper app to compare between available route-options.
Besides, you can also text the stop-id (just check the one in TTC pole, or shown as part of suggested-route in CityMapper app) to 898882, to find out the real-time status of buses, in case they aren't that frequent. To be sure, CityMapper also gives real-time time-estimates.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
Iove this one but it is still in beta in Japan. Hopefully fully functional soon
FYI, there's an app that already does this and it's amazing. It was designed for London (it's awesome there) and they've expanded into other cities including Montreal:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
Also on IPhone. But cba to find a link. Just look for citymapper!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citymapper.app.release
That's the Android link but it's on iOS too. Citymapper will be the best app for you to use and see the best way to commute!
