piggyback, Check State Laws before recording phone calls to see if you are in a one or two party state but OP if you are on Android I recommend ACR. It has worked great for me.

Way to record your calls. I have an Android app that auto-records any call that I make or receive. After each call I get the option to save the recording. It's rare that I need to save them, but it's good to have the option.

You can still love your job, but you may have to love your job with another company or with your own rig. If they're treating you like shit just be sure to document everything. EVERYTHING. I suggest you get a call recording app as well. I use ACR and it actually saved my ass on Monday when a repo company called my boss and outright lied about my phone interactions with them. NY is a single party consent state, and FWIK in a 30 second google search it's the same in Canada. That means as long as you know that you are recording the call then you don't have to tell them that they are on a recorded line. Best $3 I ever spent.

As someone who had to leave home at 17 as a result of my abusive NMom and had to speak to CPS (they didn't do anything because I was 2 months from turning 18 and the rep I spoke to waa super clear that they were just following protocol to interview me and that it would take longer than those two months to even get my case reviewed), I recommend you look up if your state is a "one-party consent" state. That means that you don't need the second party's (your mother's) consent to use a recording of her in a court of law. If you suspect your mom is about to say anything damning, I advise you turn the recording app on your phone (or download a free one if your phone doesn't have it) and put the phone in your pocket to capture what she's saying.
I'm not sure how much it will help, but if she says anything explicitly illegal or proving that she's a danger to your health, I'd like to think they'll be more inclined to take action. Be sure to email copies of those things to yourself and back them up multiple places like you are with your images. I'm not sure if it's also on iPhone, but you can use the ACR Phone Call Recording App to record your phone calls automatically. They're saved to the cloud and can be downloaded directly. Helped me so much in a recently legal case; People love to not think when they're speaking on the phone...

Works just the way you'd think it works. After every call, it pops up and asks if you want to save that call. They're all replayable from the app and as plain .wav audio files. You can set up whitelists or blacklists, and change the prompt and default save settings, and add notes to existing recordings for filing.

I have this on my phone and honestly I don't know how I ever lived without it. No more scribbling down addresses on coffee cups at 60 mph while buddy yells thru your Bluetooth. Never wish I hadn't deleted a voicemail. Always know the customer service rep I was dealing with last times name. Wish I'd had it 5 years ago, might have saved me $5000 when a subtrade fucked up and I only had a verbal contract.
I live in a one party consent jurisdiction. Only I need to know how the call is being recorded. Your mileage may vary, ask your lawyer.
Also must toggle off when handing the phone to someone who doesn't know it records (or tell them, I just say its a work thing).

Exactly the reason I installed Call Recorder - ACR on my Android phone. Every single call is automatically recorded.
All phone call audio is bad--there's no way around it. But Call Recorder-ACR works well for me when I have to go that route. I will do whatever I can to convince the guest not to do the interview by phone. I tell them that I want them to sound as good as they can -- and that I can help them sound that way. If I talk them into not calling, I usually send them a link to Cleanfeed session that I've set up for them that records us both on separate tracks. It's free, sounds good on both ends and easy to set up. (They do have a new paid option).
Whatever, you do, make sure your own voice is recorded with top-notch audio quality, even if you have to record them over the phone. Most listeners will tolerate a crappy phone call, as long as the host sounds really, really good.
Do you have an Android phone? If sothis software is excellent I use it for work conference calls (and others) regularly and it doesn't make massive files like when you record high quality audio with a phone recorder, but is crystal clear and excellent quality.

I would suggest you record conversations with his mum and then if you guys are still doing therapy, ask if he minds you playing conversations with his mum, which shows how she really treats you (while in session).
If he says no, the therapist will ask why he doesn't want to hear what his mother said.
you should realise he will likely tell her immediately that you are recording the calls, so check the legality of it where you are. If it's a two party consent state, I'd be careful as you've already made recordings and she would likely try and take legal action once you are officially over (if it does get to that).
If it is one party consent, record everything with any of them. If it's a two party consent state after the reveal to the therapist, just state you're recording the phone calls as soon as she gets on. If she says no, say if she continues to talk it's with the knowledge and implied consent that it's being recorded.

Yeah, any time you're dealing with a company that has a shitty track record of customer service you should use a program like this and record every single call. Look into your local statutes but most states are single party consent states where only one person (EG: you) needs to know that the call is being recorded. Every single call I make to comcast is recorded as insurance against "We can't find the recorded call" bullshit that is VERY common with Comcast.
Call Recorder - ACR is a call recording app that works pefecty for me, no limitations I've found, well worth it's small price. It can auto upload recordings to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and more. There is no tone played when recording to let the other party know you are recording. It's also updated very regularly.
Go onto the Google Play Store and download an app called ACR- Another Call Recorder and activate it and once you make a call to the voicemail, the call recorder will begin to record, after you play the voicemail, hang up the call and go into your file explorer in your phone and find the ACR folder and you'll see the file of the recording, extract that to a PC or back up the file. if you have any questions, please reply , i am going to link you the app you need to download. it has directions on how to use it once you launch the app

ACR is good enough for you to not need a watch. It does everything in background, including syncing to the cloud of your choice. Highly customizable. One of the first apps I install on a fresh setup. It may require some time to set up the recording format before use, but for most stock ROMs the built-in wizard is just fine.

In terms of how, it could be simply placing a recorder to the mic. It could also just be an app on his phone. He's within his right to record the call in the state of New York without notifying the Scaramucci. One app that works well and is free would be ACR, but there are others.

This one. Mentioned it in other comments but the current version of Android has restrictions on what 3rd party apps can get from phone calls. On some phones you only get one side of the audio, and you don't get the phone number info passed for the call any more. I use an older phone running Android 8 (Oreo) so it works fine. Apparently the upcoming version of Android will restore the missing functionality to 3rd party apps as it's pissed a number of people off.

Oddly enough it came into good use a few months ago when a debt collector lost his shit on me and it ended up getting my $2,000 debt (that was only 3 months behind) taken completely off of my credit history.

It's probably not the best, but it allows you to save/name calls, as well as export them. Mine has stopped tagging the call with the phone number, so I have to remember to tag important calls right away. Might be a permission, not sure.

Currently the app saves the recording with the name of the contact. But in my dad's Asus phone the same app doesn't save the recordings with names (due to changes in security model of Android 9 (Pie)).
It's still working with ACR in 9 on my XZ Premium.
Hard to say if the quality has dropped but can still hear both ends of the call just fine.
Maybe later phones that release with 9 rather than get updated to it that'll be different, but for now it still seems to be working.

I've used ACR Call Recorder (free version) and it's worked just fine. It automatically records both sides of your calls and puts up a little taskbar notification when recording.
I'm using ACR and it works great. I was a big fan of Auto Call Recorder, but it ceased to work. Boldbeast also works, but at 10$, the pro license is obscenely expensive.
Call Recorder - ACR works great on my S8+ on Oreo (Snapdragon, T-Mobile if that counts for anything). Premium is well worth it, single purchase not a monthly charge or having to buy minutes to record via 3 way call. Calls are stored locally on the phone, and premium lets you upload to google drive, dropbox etc.

Really well done app. You don't need pro but it's worth paying for if you record every call as it allows you to upload your call recordings to any cloud storage you like. You might want to make sure that the drive is encrypted and has 2fa on it to be safe. Last thing you want is an architect of your phone calls getting into the wrong hands.

Some of the best advice I can give you is record all of your calls. Nobody can put words into your mouth and you will have a record of everything said when dealing with Comcast (or any company or person, really). This is the app that I use. It is the only one I have tried that is reliable, easy to use/setup, and has good support. I got the pro version so I could sync all my recordings to OneDrive automatically. If you're wondering what settings to use I use these settings. OGG (Vorbis) provides a good balance between quality (it is a phone call after all. It doesn't need to sound great but you don't want it to sound worse) and file size. Make sure recording a call without all parties consenting to be recorded is legal where you are, though.
I use ACR from NLL apps, never failed with phone calls. Due to change in policy for recording apps, I use very old version which have access to phone book so IDK how it is with latest version.

Unfortunately Google removed the ability to record both channels of an audio call in newer Android OSs so I use a Galaxy S7 from several years ago.
Allegedly they will be re-enabling this in a future release of Android, but until they do I'm sticking with this old phone because as I say this is something that I don't use often but when I do, it is priceless. I'd be beyond pissed if I upgraded phones and lost this capability and had a need for it again so I'll keep this phone till it dies or Android gets the needed update.

Yup, an app. Ive used this one for a few years now. I have it set to auto record all calls incoming and outgoing and just delete what I don't need to keep. In the settings it can also be set to manual recording where you have to initiate and end the recording. I found it easier to just leave it on auto because I don't make many calls to begin with so I just go through them every month or two.
Edited to add: I believe there was an issue at one time with recording on samsung devices which was what made me switch from my prior recorder to this one. It did originally state it didn't work on samsung but I had found it while googling stuff about them and someone had got it to work. I used the settings they posted and it works fine.
Call Recorder - ACR Pro by NLL works best for me. Automatic Call Recorder Pro by Appliqato worked okay on my Moto E4 and Xperia Z3, but had issues on my Note 8 where I would only record my own end of the conversation and omit the other end, making it pretty useless.
The few others I've tried just never worked at all and failed to record both ends of the convo even after trying out all the different configurations in settings for whatever reason.

IME it's something of a lottery. I've tried various apps and they've only ever really recorded my side of the call, the other side is so quiet it's pretty much impossible to understand.
I read a note from the author of one of these apps that it's down to the phone: some do allow good recording of both sides of the call but a lot don't. :-(

Sorry, can you elaborate? What app are you using for the call recording (or is this a built-in Android app?). I'm currently using ACR Call Recorder and it seems to work fine on Android 8.1.0. I've not updated to Android 9, so it would be good if you could confirm for me whether the functionality is disabled on 9.
Edit: Damn, I found the answer. No third-party call recorders work on Android 9. Looks like I'm not going to upgrade for a while, or at least until I root the phone.

Initially installed it after a crash with a crackhead who liked to make threats. Founds its damn useful for when I've made appointments and forgotten when they were/other details/etc.
A further admission that they owe you and aren't paying up would be helpful to your case. Might not even have to go to court, just phone the person you dealt with, and email the recording to accounts (though, don't expect them to give up anything else on the phone after that)

Regarding the phone call, Canada is a single party consent country when it comes to recording calls (as long as you are recording a conversation you are in) so you can use this app to record them. If you think you'll be interacting with him again via the phone I would suggest it.

Just to add to the excellent advice that has already been posted, you should assume that all communications going forward are on the record. Luckily you are in NC, a one-party consent state, and can use this to your advantage. There are many call recording apps available, something that could very much come into play in future court proceedings. Also consider backing up text messages, and any other communications you exchange.
Note: I don't work for either of the apps I linked but they've helped out in situations that would have otherwise ended up posted on here.

I can attest this(Call Recorder by Skvalex) works on my Verizon S8+ without root. Not sure exactly how to buy now as not in Play store. If it's important to you all the info is in that thread though. �� Only downside is you can't set it to record call on answer but not a big deal really with all the other options.
ACR no doubt. Has dropbox and google drive support, among other cloud options. You have to get the license to use cloud saving, cheaper than most burgers. Worth it in my opinion.
Apparently it's not compatible with the GS6. That's okay though. I use Call Recorder - ACR. You might find the Pro features useful but it works well enough without them (really only useful if you want to automatically backup the recordings to cloud storage).

It's free but, You pay if you want to disable analytics and enable auto cloud upload. But you can do it for free if you just set the saved audio folder to your Google drive folder or use cryptomator (in alpha but works well and has the benefit if encrypting again fir added protection).
Telling them they are being recorded is an express trip up the ladder. I called Comcast, and when the guy told me I was being recorded I told him so was he. He couldn't get off the phone quick enough, and told me he wasn't allowed to say anything else and would have to transfer me to management. I got my payment waaaaaaay lowered, free HBO, Free Starz/Encore, and all for just saying I was recording them. I highly recommend ACR

I thought it wasn't possible historically (a lot of the older apps required you to turn on speakerphone), but ACR seems to be doing the trick (although the audio quality isn't the best).

I recommend setting up a call recording app on your phone. I use ACR. It is excellent and I highly recommend getting the paid version. Do a few test runs with a friend to make sure you have it set up in a way that works. Bear in mind that Washington is a 2-party consent state, and you are legally required to announce that you are recording. In practice, this means that if you forget to announce you are recording, you should probably just keep the recording a secret.

I've used it for years with no issues. Calls are all stored locally, so no cloud integration is required.
The free version does everything you need (automatic recording of all calls) but there's also a cheap "premium" version that lets you record calls from an exclusion/inclusion list and a few other features.
If you have root, you can use the Magisk Module App systemizer to make any app a system app - this allows any call recorder to do its job

Been using ACR Pro for the past few years and never had any issues with it.
You do find that when you listen back to calls on your phone, the other side of the call is quieter. But considering it backs all recordings up to OneDrive, listening back on PC or Mac isn't an issue.

This is wrong. My state is a one-party consent state, meaning that I can record my calls if: you are in the same state as me (or any one-party consent state), and I know the call is being recorded.
Also, /u/DominicDom is wrong. It doesn't matter that it is illegal in CA. It's up to users to know the law, and make their decision like /u/UloPe said. Google, another company based in CA, allows recording apps on the Play Store. Example

which app do you use specifically? ACR hasn't worked for me since Pie and they have a page on their website detailing that it's not possible in Android 9. There is no way to record their side of the call (what you hear)

It depends on your phone really. I have a droid and use ACR Pro. It records all my call and can even back up to dropbox and delete after it has done so. Last I checked iPhone they only had one app and it informs the other party that they are being recorded. Which I don't personally like since my state law says only one person needs to know they are being recorded and i would rather it be me. People don't speak open when they know they are being recorded lol. Make sure you check your state laws though before doing so. You don't want to be the one in trouble for wire tapping.
Call recording apps are hit and miss for me. An app will work fine and then an OS update will do something to kill an app working...on that device.

That's from ACR. Android removed call recording all together from it's software. Looks like I'm rooting my 3xl
ACR records locally, but also syncs to the cloud. Would that work? The app itself is great for recording calls, and they update it when the OS changes. For example, it was working, then one day it would only record the other caller. In about a week they had an update that fixed it so both callers were being recorded again.
In ACR, go to the menu and look for the item "Recording issue?" (it's second from the top on my version. This should help to figure out which input should be used (there are like 8-12).

Apparently doesn't work properly with Nexus and Pixel phones. If you have those, you need to use speakerphone so the app can pick up the audio through the speaker instead of through the phone itself.

I recorded my Ndad all the time and my Nbro once, my Ndad in person and my Nbro over the phone. It is illegal in my state, yes, but I do not plan on using the recordings for any legal matters.
I use ACR to record calls and my phone's built-in recording app to record my Ndad. I only recorded my Nbro because I knew he was going to milk my Grandma dying, and he did. He said, and I quote, "so apparently mom is getting a bunch of money from grandma's will, but we're not getting any of it." That was the day I went NC with his entitled, selfish ass.
I recorded my NDad all the time because I could. He was giving me rides to work every day and his favorite place to trap me to talk at me and complain/bitch about everything under the sun was the car. I've got some great stuff on record.
I document stuff just to say that I have proof of x, y, and z while he says a, b, c, which are all lies. Like I said, I don't plan on using them legally. Knowing I have double backed up recordings of him and his Narc tendencies gives me peace of mind. Gives me the proof that I am not crazy, dreaming, or "taking stuff out of context." Gives me the ammo, and I just patiently wait for his sisters or his gold digger wife to come up to me and say "prove it." Because I can, and I certainly will.
Of course, that will never happen. Flying Monkeys are quick to believe one story and too lazy/too stubborn to seek out the others. But it's there, just waiting. In my possession.

It isn't illegal to lie to someone to get them to admit something. Cops do it all the time.
Record the phone conversation. Texas is a single party consent state. That means, if you are part of the conversation, you can record the audio without letting anyone else know. On Android, I've had good experience with ACR, and have used it quite a bit (I used it when my mortgage company had messed up my mortgage and were trying to worm their way out of fixing it). No clue what to use on iPhone.
For texts, just make sure they don't accidentally get deleted.
ACR can do this. If you are having trouble recording, make sure you are using cell service and not data/VOIP—some call recording apps don't work well with it.
A lot of recorder apps have settings/options that allow you to choose HOW to start recording, like making a widget so it's one tap on your home page, or even shaking the phone to start recording.
I'd do a search for <operating system> recording apps, check out a recent Top Ten list, and then review the first three or so to see what options they have to start recording.
I checked a couple of recorder apps I have installed (OS: Android): Call Recorder - ACR has a few options including "Shake to record", and based on the installs is one of the more popular apps.
I also have Boldbeast Call Recorder installed. It has a lot of settings, that I haven't gotten in to, so am not sure what options are available, but it's got pretty good ratings.

That is in many devices (Pixel, OnePlus, LG, Sony, etc.) and I think it is hardware based. So it's likely that A1's hardware doesn't have the necessary hardware.

Very nice. But the article claims you have to write them down or memorize them, when you can just copy them. The only thing MIUI messaging app makes better is that you don't have to select it in some messages.

Even the finished MIUI ROMs were behind non-MIUI ROMs, and it lacked some basic stock features. Sometimes Xiaomi ported stock features but implemented differently through their MIUI. Some didn't work so well.
If you're on Android, there are some still quality options. But you're going to pay for them. Not a lot, but some.
The solution I use (for much the same reason u/Gambatte does) is NLL's ACR (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr). The free one is only good for a week or so to test it, but it does work. I bought the Pro license (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr.license) for a few dollars and have it set to record nearly all calls. It also automatically uploads the recordings to a cloud service of my choice (I use DropBox, but Google Drive, OneDrive, WebDAV, FTP and even email are all options).

I like Call Recorder - ACR, but there are many functionally equivalent apps. You can whitelist (always record), or blacklist (never record) certain contacts.
I'd give a call to the local PD (non-emergency) in the morning before the other person wakes up from their hangover. "It might be nothing because she was drunk, but my estranged family member called me late last night and said that she would call the police, to make false accusations against me to have me falsely arrested. I think she is having an extreme reaction to the Las Vegas shooting, and might decide to act upon this."

The one by Boldbeast Software is a little less user-friendly, but it seems to have a bit of capability/compatibility that I haven't seen in competitors, and it's the only one that comes close to working perfectly for my 6P. This one also has premium features requiring the paid version to unlock.
If I've used any others over the years, (I'm sure I have) I simply don't remember them. It's been too long and my memory is garbage. Hope one of these helps you, but if not, just try apps yourself until you find one that works for you.

First, OP you should edit this post to remove the person's name and the rental company's name. If anything you've written is not 100% truthful or can't be proved, they can sue you for defamation if they find this post.
First, OP you need to actually document your communications with them. Otherwise, they'll just deny you ever contacted them. NYS is "one-party consent" state for phone call recording, meaning you can record your conversation with them and don't need to tell them or ask for permission. So record all phone conversations and don't tell them you're recording. On [Android, I use the App ACR](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nll.acr&hl=en_US). Plenty of other android apps. I don't believe iPhone can do it, so you'll have to connect your phone to a computer or other device to record the conversation and use software [like Audacity](https://www.audacityteam.org/) to record the conversation.
However, it will be a cleaner documentation to get things in writing. If this goes to court, a judge looking over emails or letters will be a lot easier than listening to phone conversation recordings. Small claims court proceedings are much quicker and a judge might not have the patience for phone recordings.
This documentation is also for them. They might not realize the extent that they've screwed up until it's thrown in front of them. Citing move out date, specific dates and references to previous communications, who you've talked to. The more information you have, the less they can deny. You don't threaten to sue, but staying organized and documenting everything shows that you're not just going to go away. Again, DON'T THREATEN TO SUE THEM, at least casually. Formal demand letters can sometimes work, but they should be done properly, usually by an attorney if you want them to take it seriously. If you casually say you're going to sue them, they'll be dumb to continue communicating with you and they could just prepare for a counter lawsuit against you instead.

Also, contact Off-Campus College Department and explain the situation to them. Not saying they will do anything, but they do know a lot of the local big landlords in town and might be able resolve the issue without legal action.
Otherwise, if the landlord doesn't refund the money, then yes, you will need to sue them if you want your money back.
Not returning a security deposit without justifiable reason is illegal. However, the landlord can also counter sue or justify keeping it if other parts of your tenant residency aren't clean. Damage you left or other areas where you may have violated the lease agreement can be used against you, so make sure your ducks are in a row.

Pretty annoyed that I had a good working app on my old phone (and even paid for the pro version), only to find it no longer works on Android 9 cause Google just decided to be cunts for some reason.
Cube ACR seems to work technically, but the volume of the other person is so low that it's basically impossible to make out the words being said. Actually it's so bad that it might just simply be the mouthpiece picking up sound from the earpiece externally.

Apps. I've used ACR for a couple years and it works well.
Unless you intend to tell the other party they are being recorded on every call, make sure you live in a state where one-party recording is legal.

Give Automatic Call Recorder a shot. I have not used it on Project Fi, but it always worked great with regular service to record both sides of the call clearly. The only thing it won't record is Bluetooth calls.
Free to try, so it's worth at least testing with Fi.

First, download app to record calls.That's how after call you can replay everything and gain needed information.Second, talk with someone about this.Mother ,boyfriend etc. I'm sure they will help you if you just ask them about training phone conversation.Thanks to my boyfriend now we talk even 50 min ! A red record button appears when you make/receive a call. Press it and it starts recording. Alternatively set it to auto-record.

If you're on Android, ACR is pretty fantastic. At least in my experience. If you're on iPhone, you're pretty much SOL, due to Apple's severe limitations on what apps can do on your phone. While this is done for security, it definitely cuts down on the functionality of many iPhone apps when compared to their Android equivalents. Windows Phones have a few options available to them, and look like they aren't as locked down as iPhone, but I have no concrete information on this.
One alternative I've seen is using Google Voice to record calls, since it has this feature built in. Although, it will play an automated announcement whenever recording is initiated to satisfy all-party consent laws.
There is an app called ACR that works okay. Sometimes you have to use speaker phone for it to work properly.

I would highly recommend recording your calls moving forward. I use ACR, a free call recorder.
Anything a representative of Bell tells you by phone is legally-binding, even if another agent says otherwise. It'll be a lot easier to get your point across if you have a recording of your exchanges.
For instance: John Mc.Johnville tells you you're going to get reimbursed. After two months, you realize Bell still hasn't refunded you. You call them, and Mr. Paul Managerman tells you John wasn't authorized to make such a promise and they can't fulfill it. Well, too bad Paul. John, a representative of your company said it, and you are legally-bound to abide by it.
I bring this up because I had some pretty serious issues with Sears last year and was forced to record my calls to protect myself and force them to respect their agreement. It took 9 months and an email to all the CEOs and chairs of Sears, but eventually, I got my money back.
Important note
For legal purposes, if you record calls, you must:
Inform the person they are being recorded.
Tell the person why they are being recorded.
Offer a non-phone alternative, IF they refuse to be recorded.
Basically, once they pick up the phone, just say: "Hi, please note that this call is being recorded for documentation purposes."
That's all. If they refuse, offer to communicate by email. The important thing is to have a paper/audio trail.

It depends on your phone as to whether it will allow both sides of the conversation to be recorder. ACR will advise you if that is the case. Some phones you need to have the call on speaker to record. It's all for various regional legal reasons.
