So, LeafPic finally did it, I left QuickPic a week ago and couldn't be happier. Same speed and same UX except for quite a few improvements on the looks department. It doesn't have cloud features afaik but I never used that so for me it's been a great replacement.
Here's a few recent installs that have really impressed me.
Leafpic [Beta]: Fast, simple, and clean gallery viewer. I've had 0 complaints, easily my replacement for Piktures which felt too slow to refresh and clustered.
Solid Explorer: So far my favourite file manager, I also recently discovered it's cast integration, so I can stream local videos right from the app.
I currently still use quickpic, but I'm hoping LeafPic turns out good. Right now my biggest gripe is they only allow exclusion of folders instead of inclusion. Being able to set a picture folder as the only folder displayed is very handy.
Leafpic is a Free Open Source alternative that's almost identical to pre-load quickpic.

Apparently Linkme bot doesn't work here, or I'm doing it wrong.
I personally still can't decide between LeafPic and Camera Roll. Yes, they're both Beta versions, but still really good in my opinion.
I experience a delay of only 1-2 secs and I use QuickPic (pre cheetah). I've had similar results with Leaf as well. Highly recommend these two gallery apps. At best they should reduce the time delay, but the delay is a standard of Android, as previously mentioned.
LeafPic is kinda similar to QuickPic. I've been using it for a little while and I'm pretty content. But I also have QuickPic from before Cheetah Mobile.
LeafPic. All it does is add .nomedia
file (probably what most other apps do too) to the folder, which means it won't get indexed in other gallery apps (Android file system way) and you can then set a 4-digit pin code as the password.
If you already have the .nomedia
file there in the folder then LeafPic won't see it, you need to remove the file first.

This app is in heavy development (hence beta) so expect some bugs...
To completely forbid viewing the folder in e.g. file managers and all apps you'd need encryption.
As I said in the post there are a Russian guy that released a copy of LeafPic, please report it, he doesn't follow the terms of the license. Here you can find the true app
Exactly. The original developer changed the package name of his app and then published it on the Play Store himself.
Leafpic is now on the Play Store (used to be F-Droid only).
No, Play Store Beta.
I enjoy Leafpic

I'm surprised no-one mentioned Leafpic
The best part is that it's FOSS of course.
