Hey thanks :) if you want more than my little arcade one-button game, you should try Simple Rockets : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jundroo.simplerockets , also pay a visit to /r/simplerockets
You can find my other games at jundroo.com but if I were to suggest just one other, it would be SimpleRockets, which is a game about rocket science.
It's a cute android game, worth checking out. Think it's on steam now too.
But yes, its part selection system has collapsible sections like you describe. Pretty essential on a phone, screen real estate and all. Would be great to see in KSP. I'd prefer it to the search feature they're adding, honestly. Not that I mind search being added!
I'd add to that, that if KSP it too tricky (or just if you want something a little simpler) there's a great game on Android (not sure about iOS) called Simple Rockets that's well worth playing.
In Simple Rockets you get to design your own rocket, with different thrusters, stages, etc, and then control it to get out of orbit and land on the moon... Or even other planets. It has several fun missions and it's pretty fun overall.
Truly a great Dev, I would also highly recommend Simple Rockets. It is ultimately how I discovered Andrew. I am now also one who purchases his games without first digging deeper as I know he always puts his time and passion into them. He doesn't have many. ( Yet ) But the ones he has created are certainly quality. Thank you for making your app free for the day so our wonderful community can get larger!

It looks an awful lot like SimpleRockets (Android and iOS). Theres a fine line between rip-off and 'inspired-by', which SimpleRockets even admits that it treads - the app openly admits that it is inspired by KSP. That said, it looks like it adds a lot of things that SR doesn't have, and I think I'll take a look at it.
For any Android users. (It's not free on Android, though)
Anyone looking for an actually good mobile rocket-building experience, check out Simple Rockets.
It's made from the same guys that made SimpleRockets, a cheap, mobile KSP.
Edit: It's on Steam as well apparenly.
Sorcery! 1, 2, & 3. Interactive stories, with a fourth part to be coming soon.
80 Days (from the above dev). Phileas Fogg with a steampunk twist.
Kairosoft games for a more casual genre that you can pick up for five minutes every day. Has time-limited demos for most of the games so you can see if they take your fancy.
Simple Rockets. Effectively a slimmed down version of Kerbal Space Program for your phone/tablet.
Pixel Dungeon. Dungeon-crawler roguelike.
Trese Brothers. Again, has demos to try out the games to see what you want/like.
Tales of Illyria: Fallen Knight and Tales of Illyria: Beyond the Iron Wal. Fantasy RPG, on sale to celebrate episode 3's upcoming release.
Shattered Planet. Sci-fi roguelike.
Chaos Rings (1, Ω, 2, 3). Square-Enix RPGs made exclusively for Android devices. They are considerably expensive, though (and also, the first six Final Fantasy games, plus 4's sequel, are also available).
Cook, Serve, Delicious. Restaurant management sim. I have this on both computer and tablet, and I actual prefer the tactileness of the tablet version.
It'd also be a good idea to keep an eye on the Humble Mobile Bundles. Some of the games I've listed above I've gotten from the bundles.
Simple Rockets is a well done 2D mobile version of Kerbal
Simple rockets is the closest to KSP you can get on mobile

You are describing SimpleRockets
I had a lot of fun with Simple Rockets. It's like a simpler Kerbal Space Program in 2D

Design your own rocket ships. Blast off into space. Explore the solar system. See if you have what it takes to be a rocket scientist.
CREATE Choose and connect parts together to build rocket ships. You can choose from a variety of rocket engines, fuel tanks, and other gizmos. You can even build rovers with powered wheels. You are only limited by your imagination.
EXPLORE Blast off from any planet you want. You can fly through the intense atmosphere of Venus, or you can take advantage of the low gravity of Mercury. Whip around the sun and launch yourself out to the far reaches of the solar system.
CHALLENGES Several challenges are built into the game so you can compete with other humans from around the world to see who can go the fastest, fly the farthest, orbit with the least amount of fuel, land on the moon, and so much more.
ROCKET SCIENCE Kepler wrote the equations 400 years ago, and SimpleRockets uses those equations to model extremely realistic orbital physics. Players will learn about rocket science and astrodynamics while they are having a blast exploring the solar system.
