I also immediately thought of Eclipse: New Dawn For the Galaxy! And, good news, it's available for both Android and PC (Steam). It used to be on iOS also, but I'm not able to find it now... maybe it got removed?
I have it installed on my Note 8 from a previous mass install of board games to be "at the ready".
When I go to the app page from App Info, the page says it is not compatible with my device (even though at one point it did install...)
Trying to search via play store did not yield a result for me either. Had to use the App Info shortcut.

Your android link (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.bigdaddyscreations.eclipse) is 404ing for me.
EDIT: and the Steam page is missing purchase links. According to some comments on the steam discussion board apparently the publisher of the electronic version went under.
Eclipse does appear to still be available on Android, though you need a tablet to install it (another large screen device like a Note might work, not sure). On a regular phone it says "Your device isn't compatible."

It's a bit of a strange question, and might not be 100% suitable, but does anybody know what is the situation with the Android app for Eclipse?
I can search for it on Google, but the link comes back as Not Found: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.bigdaddyscreations.eclipse
I'd stick with the website suggestions. Boardgamearena has asynchronous play mode for every game. Being a browser means you can play on android/ipad/pc and switch between them whenever needed.
Eclipse has cross platform asynchronous mode if you're dead set on an app. It plays OK with 2, but really much better with 3/4. Should meet your requirements of skill/depth with big turns.
Galaxy Trucker has an asynchronous mode that is cross platform. Works well....but doesn't meet your "skill and depth" requirement...and has a ton of turns. I mostly just typed this one for anyone that didn't know there was an asynchronous mode to this game.
It's just called "Eclipse"

Since I misspelled the linkbot request (derp), Eclipse.
Now live on the play store!
It's live on android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.bigdaddyscreations.eclipse
It's for tablets only - maybe that's the problem?
