I highly recommend the app Insight Timer. It tracks all your meditation stats and has tons of specific guided meditations.

I recommend you Insight Timer, lots of free great meditations, you can pay if you want to listen offline and it's very cheap.
Edit: the link
I downloaded an app called "Insight Timer" and play "deep sleep" (69 mins) not too loud and it knocks me out every time.
Also limit technology before bed.
Bed should only be used for sleeping and sex. Don't lie in it for hours watching TV.

*Edited correct app name.
I strongly recommend using the Insight Timer app. It is available for both iOS and Android and has tons of free guided meditations.
Edit: Here are the links -
Insight Timer is less focused on a specific track like Headspace, but it offers thousands of free guided meditations in addition to a useful basic timer.
> Headspace
If you're running Android check out Insight Timer. Lots of guided sessions from whole range of teachers with different practices. The app is a bit ugly but it's free and the community is great!
Yes, OP can also check out insight timer
Meditation.
Learn how to breathe.
Insight Timer is a useful application with a broad library of guided meditations that can get you started.
(INTP Gandalf to your Théoden, perhaps) When you start to feel disconnected, take some time to search through this app to find a guide to help redirect your thoughts. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2&hl=en_US
Ya try this one, it's mainly free from what I understand! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
This app... when did they release for android?! I used it on iOS for a long time, then switched to android and couldn't find anything near as simple and straight forward to use. I'm so excited!

Found this Android app on this subreddit a few months ago. I like it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
This my "go to" mediation video on YouTube. I also found it on the subreddit a few months ago. https://youtu.be/B5oIEKjMdmA
Insight timer, free
Insight Timer Deluxe, paid
Check out the Insight Timer here. It's designed for meditation but works a treat for piano practice, and acts as a timer and record keeper. It uses some nice Tibetan singing bowls in place of buzzers too.
Content-wise the very best is definitely Insight Timer.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
Plenty of guided meditation sessions, of different kinds, by experienced people in the field.
The UI could be modernised, yes. And you're not given a predefined progression of sessions nor week organised categories. But you have a ton of high quality content available.
I like calm. But it feels a bit artificial compared to the above. Headspace seems even more artificial and appeared to be quite expensive.
This one is really helpful for me to work with and accommodate difficult emotions https://youtu.be/c552DrMzq5s
Also, check out the app insight timer (link below). You can filter meditation tracks by length, practice, music, and more! I highly recommend. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
Be patient. The gods are everywhere...
Just focus on deep breathing first.
I recommend you download an application, like Insight Timer which can provide you with a set of guided meditations.
These can be an invaluable first step in the right direction.
Most of all, be humble and patient.
Brilliant, that's the right way to go about it. I use an Android app that's called Insight Timer. It's got heaps of guided meditations on it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
Also you can get it on iPhone. If not go down to your local Buddhist temple and they can train you for free or for a small donation.
Keep up the good fight always 😉
Insight timer. I tried so many meditation apps and Insight timber is the best. There're too many options in the app.

There's an app that I used to like called mylife

Yes, biblical meditation can be very beneficial since it focuses on believing in a higher power than ourselves and our limited mind with our limited thinking. If we involve God in our journey, we can be successful even during difficult times.
You can also use meditation apps like -
Or when you don't have time you can do simple breathing exercises with Calmaria.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
What about this app? It runs smooth on my Xs Max, if it lags on your s20 I’m really surprised. Maybe it’s due to the high refresh rate screen being double the FPS of the app?
Have you tried meditation? You can try
Insight Timer - for daily guided meditations
Calmaria - for quick breathing when you are troubled by urges.
You can also do the 4-7-8 breathing technique where you inhale for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds and exhale for 8 seconds. Do this for at least 20 minutes everyday along with other sessions from the apps like listening to meditative music.
BTW, if there are any Android users here who wish something like that meditation iOS app was on Android, the free Insight Timer meditation app has Japanese meditations. If you don't have your phone/tablet set to Japanese you may need to use the search function with Japanese terms (e.g. ストレス, 睡眠, etc) to find them though.
It's ok. I sometimes use Insight Timer. Worth a look imho if you're looking for a variety of tracks to help with meditation, sleep or stress.
Recently I've more or less kept a handle on similar problems by:
A 5-minute guided mindfulness meditation that brings me to where I am right now (app: Insight Timer)
Sitting down and write/type-vomiting everything that's on my mind so I can continue without all that discretely/insidiously suffocating me, or
Doing push-ups until I am forced to pay attention only to the burning sensation in my physical body right there right then.
These things all work for me, the trick is remembering to use them hehe
My current and favourite is Insight Timer.
Did the Headspace free trial (10x 10-min guided sessions with Andy) back in 2015 as a starting point. After that, I instantly went searching for a timer meditation app, hoping to find one where I could set interval bells to indicate when I should switch what I focus on throughout the session.
Insight offers exactly that (and you can save presets), along with music, nature sounds, etc., and guided meditations (which I've done a few). But I'm strictly in it for the timer. I'm always looking for new ways to meditate, and alter my sessions accordingly to my needs as I go along.
Check out insight timer on the play store. Very similar to a calm/headspace type of app. There is a premium subscription, but the majority/core off the app is free and has been great for me.

Insight Timer and take up meditating (mindfulness, insight, or Vipassana).
Audio Dharma has some great audio to get you started.
You may find fairly quickly that boredom is an illusion.
Try doing sleep-oriented guided mediation before bed, or just put on some calming or meditative music once you're in bed, this has really helped me with getting to sleep, and I've found myself sleeping better as well. If you don't know where to find guided mediation or music, download the Insight Timer app for iOS or Android
I use Insight Meditation Timer. As the name entails, you can set a custom time limit for you meditation sessions(5 min, 25 min, etc.) so you won't have to be conscientious about how much time you are taking. You can also use other means to time yourself but this app records your progress and gives you reports about it. It also has a social network aspect to it where you can thank other people using the same app for meditating the same time you are. You can also use it post on meditation forums.
I use Insight Timer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
I'm usually quite opposed to the sale of mediation as "self improvement" or "self help", but in this case I'll just throw it out there. Have you ever considered adding a meditation practice to your daily routine? If so, Insight Timer is pretty good. Of course, you'll need probably want an Intro to Meditation and will want to use a good podcast app, like Pocket Casts or Podcast Addict.
There's been research recently that particular wavelengths of green light can be helpful for pain. Walking through a forest may do you more good than the exercise and fresh air alone :)
I know it sounds crazy, but it's been scientifically tested!

(search Google for "green light pain" will show you a bunch more stuff if you are interested.)
EDIT: good luck! No one, not one person, has this on their gravestone: "I wish I had worked longer hours at work and been under more stress"
EDIT2: Look at Bethany Auriel-Hagan's guided meditations in the Android app "Insight Timer" GOOGLE: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2&hl=en_US APPLE: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/insight-timer-meditation-app/id337472899?mt=8
Insight Timer. It's all I use now
Insight Timer is pretty great. It has tons of free guided meditations and a very customizable timer.
I am currently using the Insight Timer. I don't use guided meditations. It's timer is quite good.
Insight Timer is good. And cheap.
Insight timer is free and has a lot of content.
You can read posts here and meditate to get rid of boredom.
Here's a good meditation app -

Insight Timer for android has lots of good guided meditations that are great for beginners.
If you're on mobile let me suggest to you Insight Timer

It is yeah. Here's a link.
My advice would be to take your time, but do a few minutes of something everyday diligently. There is a massive, steaming, pungent pile of bullshit throughout the meditation community that you should be wary of. Anyone preaching rapid life improvement, chakras, connection with higher beings, or anything that doesn't sound relatively boring and dry is deluded. The basics are to sit in a quiet place, comfortably, and focus on the sensation of breathing. That is it. You're eyes can be open or closed, your legs can be crossed or not, you can be in a chair or on the floor. Just sit down, focus on breathing, and when your mind gets distracted (as it will a thousand times a session) return your attention to how the breath feels. Here is a list of things to try:
Try these things out, see what you think, and continue if you enjoy the experience. But for god's sake, don't get caught up in thinking that it will solve your life's problems. It chills you out, makes many things easier, and feels pleasant, but that's it. Good luck.

Mindfulness is incredibly powerful. Everyone should know it is a viable option for improving their mental health.
What a lot of sceptics and newcomers don't necessarily get is that its more than a chillout session with temporary benefits. It promotes real, long term changes in the mind - calmness, focus, relaxation, emotional therapy. The key to making those benefits stick around is to have a routine and apply yourself during sessions.
I like the 'gym for the mind' analogy. Nobody is 'too unfocused' to meditate, just as nobody is 'too weak/unfit' to exercise' - thats exactly why we do it!
And just like on the treadmill, when the body starts out very uncooperative at being made to run... Your monkey mind will jump about as you try and train it. But over time, with persistence and application, it can be brought to heal. Calmness is a natural consequence of persistent focus on the now.
For me, I am handling the world much better than I used to, even as it gets more tumultuous. Meditation cant change the world - but it can change how you respond to it.
Resources - to add more suggestions to OP, Insight Timer is a really good app. Headspace is extremely popular, but is pay after a trial period.
Guides and guided meditations - I'm a fan of secular, plain English mindfulness instruction. Sam Harris' guided audio is just that. I made my own 'Mindfulness explained in 2 mins' video - thats all it takes to understand what to do!
Start your Day and end your day with Meditation.. If you Don't know much about it I recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotlightsix.zentimerlite2
I get the impression you're a bit of a perfectionist. I can relate because I've been there myself. Perfection is an unrealistic expectation and will only frustrate you. You have to surrender to the process in a sense and not worry about how "well" you're doing it. Just doing the best you can is more than enough.
>I can consciously think “that was a thought, I don’t need to dwell on it,” my brain moves on to a different thought
This is ok and is a Mindfulness/Vipassana strategy called labeling (r/xorandor 's linked video is really good). You recognizing a thought is a good thing. Instead of beating yourself up for having the thought, count it a win for being more self aware and noticing it in the first place. There's already distance between you and the thought and labeling increases this distance.
As far as breath goes, you don't need to be perfect. You won't have the single-minded focus of a Buddhist monk without years of meditation. The most important thing as a beginner is to return to the breath as soon as you've realized you lost it without judging yourself. As you get better at this, distractions and thoughts will become less frequent and compelling.

As far as headspace goes, it's alright if you have premium but the paywall is very limiting. If you feel like you want a change, there are free apps that give the same essential functionality are Insight Timer (App Store, Play Store), Aura (App Store, Play Store), and Calm (App Store, Play Store). They have premium versions too but their free versions aren't as limiting as headspace's paywall. I've personally used all three and prefer Insight Timer.
Sorry I had the incorrect name. Updated post.
