Most ads are outside of the control of the site, and are served by ad vendors based on what they think you'd be most likely to click on, based on metrics they have about you from tracking information. Gamepress can't do anything about it.

Brave is a nice middle ground between Chrome and Focus. It comes with built-in adblocker, tracker blocker, and script blocker, just like Focus, but it's much better at managing multiple tabs and browsing history.
I also recommend giving plain old Firefox a try, especially if you use it on desktop. It allows you to install plugins! Currently, I'm using it with uBlock Origin and a few others. :)
The only accurate, close-to-real-time statistics are probably Android downloads from the Google Play Store (scroll down to the bottom). Otherwise, we've so far only relied on official Brave updates from either blog posts or Brendan's Twitter account.

I'm amazed by the number of people telling you to pay google (who owns Youtube) to avoid their ads. Don't get Youtube Red.
You have lots of options. Personally, I replaced Android with LineageOS and use Adaway to permanently remove all ads from every app and website. But unless you want to root your phone, you'll have to resort to something like DNS66. It's a good app, you should try it.
Another decent option is using a browser like Brave. It won't block ads for other apps, but it blocks the vast majority of ads on websites (including Youtube).
This is my second response to you with suggestions on how to block those obnoxious ads. Please don't reward Youtube's obnoxious behaviour by paying them for Red. Just don't, it only make things worse for everybody.
Funny enough you can. Chromium is released under a different license which would actually allow something like this. No need to release your changed source code like GPL license VLC uses.

Looking for a new Browser? Seriously check out Brave. Been using it for a while now and I love it. It looks and feels like Chrome but it has a built-in ad blocker that works great and tells you how many ads and trackers it's blocked. I love it so much I use it on desktop as well.
If you root your phone, you can install adblocking at the system level, which even blocks ads in apps (though really just blatant ads directly from advertising companies, not so much companies running sites and serving advert images FROM their OWN site). If you don't have a rooted phone and are happy to just block ads in your browser, then I think firefox for android will let you install adblocking extensions now, though I don't think you can configure the extension like you can on desktops. Don't quote me on that, though. Try it and see, I guess. If not, then the Brave should work for you.
Focus is basically just another webkit browser with its key feature of being in permanent private mode.
If you're looking for a good chrome replacement / general purpose browser for Android I'd suggest brave, which has all basic privacy features built in (Adblock, Https everywhere, canvas fingerprinting protection, etc...)
The gecko based FF for Android sadly still doesn't perform as well as the webkit ones, but I'm still using it as my main mobile browser today.

There is, however, a program that can do similar things without you needing to have root called DNS66.
You could also use the Brave Browser, which has integrated ad-, tracking-, and scriptblocking functionality inside the browser. It's almost indistinguishable from the regular Chromium based browser from Google.

That's it. You did the right thing. Basically it deleted history, caches, cookies etc. Open chrome. It won't load directly to that website. It will start from scratch. Also update the app. (Because it is on older version)
That website ad was just to scare user. You were not infected. Whenever this kind of thing happens & it vibrates your phone, Just remove that tab & go back to old tab. Also if possible don't visit these kind of websites. If you are trying to download crack apps & games, please don't.

As for the participation numbers, Brendan Eich himself stated that they recently have over 1 million active monthly users in the Boxmining YouTube interview. The only public numbers available are the Android downloads. Scroll down and you can see they hit the 1-5 million download mark. Just use that ballpark figure to guestimate totals between iOS, Windows, and Mac, and download totals would be probably 10-20 million.
Just last week, they gave away free BAT from their User Growth Pool (UGP), 300k tokens at 30BAT per user, which comes out to 10k users that could claim. I think they were all claimed in a single day. So the numbers all fit.

Pi-hole. It's a network wide ad blocker and you'd need to get a raspberry pi for it to run on. It'll block ads for any device connected to your WiFi, so you don't need to install apps on everything you own. Plus you can't block ads on phones in Chrome so it'll do it. The way it works is that you attach your pi to the network and set pi-hole up, after that all traffic goes through the pi and at this step it takes out all the ads.
Either that or uBlock Origin.

I've been using Brave on my phone to read web novels and it has apparently blocked 11.6k ads and 87k trackers in the last few months. (It has a counter on the home tab)

If you are on pc I can't tell you any adblocker . But there is one for phone and it works effectively for me . And yes I didn't face any problem in animepahe .

The Brave Browser mobile app has over 100 million downloads for Android alone, and since 25% of all mobile web traffic worldwide is for YouTube we can safely say that a lot of them are using it for that. That's just one ad blocking app and it might not be the most popular one, it's just the one I use so the first one I looked up.

Firefox for Android does not have proper site isolation (is less secure), while Chromium-based browsers such as Brave or Bromite do have site isolation and are more secure.
On desktop however, I prefer Firefox because the more people use Firefox, the more diversity there is (FF has their own browser engine, while Brave is based on Chromium) the better. If everyone used a Chromium browser it would be bad for the internet.

Sidenote on the conversation about browsers: I'd whole-hardheartedly recommend Brave. It's also a privacy based browser, open source and pretty much has ublock origin built into it. They don't have extensions yet but afaik they're working on it. Just a suggestion

You should try the Brave browser for mobile. Blocks trackers, too. Developed in part by one of the guys who made Mozilla
Brave gives you that choice:

Firefox has Autoplay controls too:
Settings > Advanced > Allow autoplay
Brave's even got a blacklist for sites that try to play music behind your back. Chrome is always the last to introduce controls to limit intrusive advertisers.
This one? This one won't work for AdHell since it's a filter list and not a host list. Brave Browser has an in-built script blocker that may be able to block anti ad-blocking things like that.
Try Brave. It might work for you. I don't have any issues with Chrome, but I tried Brave for shits and giggles, and it worked pretty great.

I'd especially recommend it for the desktop, however, I'd advice you to wait a couple of weeks before downloading it; the team are fixing a few issues that users are annoyed by and will soon release a version which has well over 500 issues fixed, which is why I'd advice you to wait.
It has and will soon have better enhanced ad and track blocking capabilities and also maintains an anti-fingerprinting feature which blocks webrtc and possibly a few other things as well as several other unique features.
With all the weekly news about exploits, malware, zero days, fake apps, Trojans, etc, I worry about installing anything from Fdroid. Maybe if the app was completely open source I'd consider it.

u/4ethicalreasons and anyone reading this. This is awesome to use during the baseball season, you aren't really putting your computer at risk for anything if you take precautions.
Install Adblock. I use the chrome web browser on my computer. You can download ublock origin here. If you are using mobile I use the Brave Browser (Android) (iOS).
Use the "Trusted" sources. There are streams that have been posting on r/mlbstreams for awhile and have earned the trusted status for not being sketchy. Try to stick with those.
Don't click on anything on the site but the player. Some of the sites have ads or other links on them. I would advise not to click on them.
If you get a popup close it right away. Sometimes even when you click on the player you will get a popup. Your adblocker will prevent anything malicious from coming out of it but close it as soon as possible.
If you follow these steps these streams are really great! It's nice if you can't use mlb.tv because you are in market.

I think that was not a virus. It was a bad website which was showing virus Ads to scare you and divert you to playstore to download some useless cleaner app or download some APK file. Never ever fall for this kind of ads. Nothing will happen by downloading APK file. But, after downloading it if you install that bad APK file, then It can be a problem.
If you didn't Install any APK file from such ads/fake download links then your phone was safe even before you did factory reset. Although It's good that you did it anyway.

But, If you visit such site in future It might show this scary "Your phone has a virus" pop ups. Some of them vibrates your phone continuosly. You can get rid of it by closing that tab. - Better solution:
Use browser that supports ad-blocking. It won't completely get rid of it on some websites. But It's better than using chrome in terms of ad-blocking.
Samsung Internet with Adgaurd blocker add-on
Samsung internet is more fluid and It has inbuilt video player support which is better than default video player interface on chrome and brave.
Third option is to install ad-blocker app that can block ads from all apps.
(It uses local VPN on your phone to block ads. It doesn't send your private data to external servers. It won't change your IP address. It's an open-source app and fdroid is a safe source. It's safe to download blokada from Fdroid.)
In case if you decide to use blokada, There is an option to turn off notifications of blocked domains. So that It doesn't interfere your experience.
- Things to remember:
Don't download those cleaner, cpu cooler, phone suite, security suite, antivirus apps, memory cleaner, phone booster etc. apps. You don't need it. It runs in background, uses battery and has tons of permissions. Many of them are from Chinese companies which ask unnecessary permissions and use your data for ads and other stuff. So just stay away from those apps.
If possible Download apps only from playstore and if you are installing apps from APK (for example blokada) make sure it is from safe source. (Fdroid, apkmirror.com, XDA) Also check reputation of apps. You can ask on /r/AndroidQuestions or /r/androidapps about apps like this and if it's safe to use it or not. In case of bolkada, It is safe to use.
I use Brave on my phone and on my PC. It's almost exactly like chrome, but it has ad blocking built in and reduces tracking. It allows you to use Tor if you want on a PC.
However, mobile phones aren't great for privacy. For example, it is hard to actually be anonymous with Tor on a PC, but even harder on a phone. You can check how well your browser can be tracked here. When I used panopticlick I got better privacy results on my PC than my phone.

For browsing, I experimented with Firefox Mobile + various adblockers, but found the performance and experience pretty subpar.
Currently I'm using Brave Browser for Android, which has a solid built-in adblocker and good defaults, including disabling some nasty tracking stuff for HTML5 that chrome recently made mandatory.
I would probably steer clear of the likes of Dolphin and Opera. Though they have good adblocking options, their business interests in China and WTF's from Dolphin have me avoiding them.

LineageOS MIGHT allow for greater privacy DEPENDING on the USER.
Advertisements can be displayed via many ways so its really up to you to lock down your phone and maintain privacy.

Also, 360 security is asking so many permissions for no reason. (~useless features/excuses to ask these permissions). Same story for Clean master, DU booster etc. In fact you don't even need google files go to clear cache files. You can do it manually by going to settings > Storage > Click on cache > it will show pop up confirmation.
So apps like 360 security etc. are not "malware" for Android. It is a bad/shady app though. That Chinese company is not trustable. They are definitely misusing sensitive permissions for their on benefits and not good for your privacy. (Just like google. With Google you get useful features in return. But with those antivirus apps, you are giving your sensitive data to them without getting any benefits. Except from false feeling of being secure after installing antivirus apps.)

The answer is ad money and number of users. These apps are not violating rules of google playstore. In fact users (especially Indian users) think that they need antivirus and they use it. Give high ratings. They actually think Android need antivirus app. Google is not removing it because they are indirectly making money from it. You will see that these antivirus apps offer other features like call blocking, app lock, cleaning files etc. So that user keep using that app and antivirus apps earn money from ads. If they use google ads in their apps, google also earn money from it.

I would recommend against using adb removal for anything other than actual bloatware apps such as Facebook or Linked in. While it wouldn't hurt to uninstall things such as AR Emoji or Printing or Car mode, there's absolutely no benefits either. No, it won't speed up the phone. No, it won't save battery.
However, the rest of the tips are pretty great. Vanced Youtube is incredible. DNS66 is nice. I used that before privateDNS was a thing.
I'd like to add a few things as well. Brave Browser is a fantastic privacy browser that has built ad block as well. I believe they will be supporting 3rd party extensions soon but don't quote me on that.
The next few tips are for Samsung phones. Galaxy labs is fantastic. File Guardian can protect accidentally deleted files.
App booster claims to optimize apps performance up to 5%. Side note on this one: I'm not sure if it's actually do anything or it's placebo since I have a brand new phone.
Disconnect Pro is great too. Don't buy it full priceas it does go on sale sometimes. I was lucky enough to download it a few years ago when it was on sale for literally $0.00.
Bixby. While the voice assistant is still worthless in my opinion, Bixby is still a great feature. If you have a phone with a dedicated button for Bixby, you can use apps like BX Actions to use the button for anything you want. Flash light? Sure. Tasker? Go for it. Any app you want? Yupp.
Also, Bixby Routines. It's a more user friendly and free(although more limited) version of Tasker. You can find this in Advanced Features on your phone.
Screen recording. There's a built in app in the quick panel to record up to 1080p video. A lot of apps do this but the real benefit is you can choose between no sound being recorded, just internal sound or media sounds and mic. Most apps that I've found do not have the internal sound option.
Package Disablers. Currently, there are 2 that I know of. This is an easier way of adb commands however it doesn't actually remove the app. It just disables it from having any impact on your phone. I
The first one is CCSWE. It was working perfect for a long time. But last month it stopped working. I'm just putting it here in case the developer fixes it. There is a comment in the reviews claiming Google terminated the developers account and due to a medical emergency he is unable to resolve it currently.
The other one is Package Disabler Pro. This one does currently work. However, the developers are incredibly sketchy. They're removed the app from google play a bunch of times and then re add it to the store with absolutely zero changes and refuse to honor your original purchase.
You can buy it from their website and it will continue to work. However, you're limited how many times you can install the apk and they limit you to one device serial permanently. So if you get a new phone, you'll need to repurchase it.
Lastly, AccuBattery and Better Battery Stats. Accu Battery will give a much more accurate description of your screen time compared to the built in method. Better Battery stats will allow you to see battery draining apps by analyzing wakelocks.

Now that you mention Android, I would give Brave a try. It has an integrated ad-blocker (ish), is based on Chromium... but they also have to pay the bills (software development isn't free), so there are ads.

What I mean by the play store cesspool is beware of the search within the store itself. I always google android *application name* instead. This way I don't get lured into looking at lookalike apps.

Well i think the official way is by toggling the option in your user settings.
If you're on the new reddit: Top right menu > User Settings > (scroll to the bottom) "Opt out of the redesign".
If you're on the old reddit: Preferences > Beta options > Disable "Use the redesign as my default experience".
You can also replace the 'www' in the url of your bookmarks or links with 'old' or 'new' if you want to go directly to either version of the website. For example, change www.reddit.com to old.reddit.com or new.reddit.com.
If you're on mobile and it still didn't work, for some reason switching to the desktop site happened to make it stick to the old reddit for me (idk if it matters, but it was in Brave browser, on android). I don't know much about Chrome OS and it's not relevant to Android anyways.

I generally find Firefox Beta releases are faster, and the much more experimental Firefox Nightlies even more so, but it's a lot more experiential.
Running Firefox Beta/Nightly with Unlock Origin and Privacy Possum will speed up heavy load websites.
Besides Firefox's Gecko, there's only Chromium left. If you're looking at that, Brave would probably be the best.
I am not sure which security app you are using. I do not recommend any sort of security app that is downloaded from the PlayStore.
Before moving to LineageOS I recommend you try:
Backing up data
Factory Reset device
Android Software update
Then I recommend you install Brave Browser from the PlayStore. It does a good job at AdBlocking while browsing the web.
For YouTube you are going to need to do a few more steps:
Try the Brave browser. I just use that to browse any mobile site riddled with ads.
For Android, I found Brave to be less sluggish than Firefox, and it has an in-built ad blocker.

No regulating it as a public utility is not 'stupid' it is what's called 'being responsible.' The public use google to such an extent that it must be regulated in some way to ensure the information it is providing is correct and unbiased otherwise it is free to impose its thoughts and views on the masses without even being fact checked. The data collection and tracking of users should also be regulated, as it has gone beyond stalker and is now incredibly invasive. Im glad to be rid of it using these alternatives:
Man, that sucks. Some manufacturers choose to lock bootloader in certain countries. It is possible that your phone is unlockable without shenanigans. This process is pretty sraight-forward IF they have chosen to let you, otherwise things may get bloody.
Honestly, all of this has been made ridiculously complicated. If it's the browser ads that annoy you the most, consider trying Brave browser. It's not completely finalized yet, but the devs truly care and listen to feedback. It blocks ads and also trackers - exactly what the Apple news are about.

get Brave Browser. It's almost exactly Chrome (based on the same current Chromium build, currently 70.0) but with built-in adblocking, HTTPS everywhere, and script blocking. it's incredible. in the past 6 months or so, it says i've blocked 43,000 ads, 34,000 trackers blocks, 2,700 HTTPS upgrades, and 1 hour estimated time saved without all that nonsense in my life.

The three rules to improve battery life are:
1) Turn off WiFi, Bluetooth, and location services when not in use.
2) Use Greenify to help force your phone into Doze.
3) Uninstall any application owned by Facebook. You can usually replace these using the Progressive Web App (mobile site) and a browser like Brave Browser.
You can add hours to your battery life by getting rid of Facebook's family of apps.
DDG has built in adblock, but there's isn't any settings to tweak for the instances it fails. You might have better luck if you try using ~~Brave~~ instead.
EDIT: Looking into it further, you should probably just use Firefox and install ublock origin . When I originally wrote this comment, I hadn't realized that Firefox's add-ons, including ublock, were compatible with the mobile app.

I have no idea how people cash out BAT tokens, I have been deeply skeptical about crypto from the start and never got involved, so it could be as hard as you say.
