Edit: But Seriously. It has a direct interface on the TV. Plus native apps, like UFC.tv, etc. And a bluetooth remote, so you can control it while snuggled in a blanket. And if you like torrents, Kodi can play ANYTHING you download. (Ok, x265 support isn't there yet, but that's rare.)
I was testing this out the other day and just found out how well this works:
If you don't have a spare PC/laptop or something like an Amazon Fire TV, you could have your phone constantly connected to an outlet(keep in mind this will fucking murder the battery if you do it, so you might wanna take it out of the outlet every once in a while), have the screen displayed on your TV(via either chromecast or just an adapter) and install Kodi (aka XBMC) on it, that way you could have your phone act as a full media center if you set it up correctly(keep in mind the app is small but in the long run all the addons you need to install will take up at least 1GB of space so have some spare). Then, on any other device, such as your new phone, install a Kodi remote app and you're set. ish. You'll still need to set it up but it shouldn't be that hard, you can look up some stuff on the internet about how to get it streaming TV shows and movies, how to do anything with it really.
You have to use the package name to uninstall apps, not the APK name (which could be anything).
You can usually track down the package name using Google Play since it's in the URL. For example: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
So the package name for Kodi is org.xbmc.kodi
Thus: adb uninstall org.xbmc.kodi
If you can't find it that way, or via some similar method, you can issue the following command over ADB to retrieve a list of all the packages you've installed:
adb shell pm list packages -3
You'll have to scan the output and try to figure it out. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not.
If all else fails you can find it in AndroidManifest.xml inside the APK, or just ask here :)
(alternatively you could try installing a file manager that has APK management functions)
If you're not very familiar with linux, try installing android on your c2. Android is a lot simpler to use than straight up linux. Then you can run the kodi android app.
Even better, Google's Nexus Player can download Kodi from the Play Store without developer mode, root or enabling outside apps. The breeziest of breezy Android installs.
You should be able to download Kodi to the Nexus Player by visiting the Google Play Store the web on a non-Android device and simply select the Nexus Player when it asks where to download it to.
It worked on my Android TV device and yes, Kodi is awesome.
Kodi.
It's free, works across Mac, Android, Windows, among others as well.
Very intricate and customizable. For instance, I have an old MacBook Pro running Kodi connected to a 4TB HDD and tucked away, and I use Kodi on my Android smartphone and Windows laptop to stream off of it (in house) wherever I may be.
Very easy to use and also supports cataloging your movies/TV shows if they are named correctly.
can you still see the files on the hard drive? Try playing some through a PC to make sure nothing got corrupted.
I am not a big fan of Kodi because it tends to do a bad job identifying my files, but I have used it before on my TCL and it did read files. Could use it to test if the TV sees it with a different app, which should help verify if it is VLC having issues, or the TV itself.
I will check my TCL vlc version and plug in an external drive to see how/if it works on mine (I normally use a samba share)
over internet: Anydesk (like Teamviewer)
but for media control purposes (LAN between the two): DLNA. Tablet: DLNA-Player/Renderer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi -maybe there are plugins for Netflix, Disney+ etc.
to control the tablet from the phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.leetzone.android.yatsewidgetfree
Try Kodi for playback. Also only HDR10 is properly supported for local media playback. Dolby Vision has very limited support for local files and most won't switch to HDR mode.
>Thereby requiring you to disable transcoding temporarily on the server side to force it to direct play.
I will be the only user and I don't want any transcoding so can I permanently disable it?
>Kodi app with the Jellyfin add on
Sorry I am bit confused with this... currently, I have Kodi Server running on my Ubuntu laptop which appears on my TV as a DLNA source. It just choose videos from file browser like UI. Are you referring to installing Jellyfin add-on into that Kodi app or this app on Google Play store .
looking at the screen shots it looks same as the server I have on the laptop. I was hoping to see a media library in netflix like GUI, is that not the case?
I can’t believe that MX Player still makes people install codecs separately. I never liked that stupid system. Just install Kodi or VLC for Android, they’ll both work without screwing around. Personally I prefer Kodi as it has a better 10-foot interface and is 100% free and open source.
Also, if you are connected via optical cable then EAC3 audio won’t work without converting it to standard AC3.
Kodi should play your file just fine. The Mediatek chipset in the X950G has hardware decoding support for H.265 up to 2160p at 60fps and Kodi will take full advantage of that and offer software decoding for any type of audio codec that can't be bitstreamed (only DD, DD+ or DTS can be bitstreamed from internal apps to external devices).
Kodi https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Won't autostart, but you can make playlists.
You can use just about any Android TV, Raspberry pi or Odroid. No need to harm anyone with Windows
It seems like you don't have to put the Fire Stick to your computer but just connect it via the internet. I dont have a Fire Stick myself but I'm 98.44% sure you don't need to plug it in the computer. You could always do a YouTube search just to make sure. Most computers dont have a HDMI port anyway. Also since you have a computer, put Kodi on there and try it out to see if you like it. If you have an android phone you could put it on there as well.

I do know that if you set up a Plex server (which is free) or even just have a shared drive/folder VLC should detect it and allow you to stream free.
If you have the time it might be best to setup a Kodi server and use it - it's free/open source and probably as good if not better than Plex https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi&hl=en
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi&hl=en
You can install Kodi on an Android device, and do the samething. Then just cast your screen (not 100% sure if the app has cast support or not).
What I do to use sportsaccess on an android phone or android tablet (sorry, I'm not an iDevice owner), is to have Kodi/xbmc installed, and then install the Sportsaccess Kodi plugin, and then watch it that way. I haven't been able to watch any flash stream stuff on my mobile browser for several years now unfortunately.
Probably not going to be a popular answer but an alternative to building your own pc could be to get yourself a Nexus Player (1.8GHz Quad Core, Intel Atom Processor, 1GB RAM, 8 GB storage onboard, Remote with voice search).
It runs Android TV which is able to run Kodi as an Android app. For downloaded content you can connect hard drives to it using USB. On top of that you'll get Netflix, Plex, HBO as Android apps. Oh and did I mention that the Nexus Player is rootable + supports the Google Cast platform?
I've got one myself and I am very satisfied.
It looks like a legitimate XBMC/Kodi community page, it lets you sign up to the beta/alpha group, and you can then access the Kodi page at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Legally I can't imagine there would be any difference in letting people only get it if they've signed up to the community page.
Kodi is your choice! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi

I personally use Kodi.
Kodi? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Browse to it on a desktop and web install the app to your NP that way.
Have a look at Kodi, that will do exactly what you need.
Regular, vanilla, standard, run of the mill, everyday Kodi.

Best thing since sliced bread!
Kodi with the Genesis plugin has everything ever.
In related news, you no longer need to be in the beta G+ community to install Kodi, you can just get it from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Not sure I understand the question but here it is on Google play. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi

Android:
Youtube Downloader, just share video to it, click what version you want, and it dl's.
Kodi + youtube addon (in kodi's addon repos) + having a downloader added to playercorefactory^1 (I use ADM)
Linux/Windows/OSX:
VLCTUbe, works on firefox and Chrome. The VLC part no longer works, as firefox and chrome no longer support npapi. However, it still keeps the "download video" on the bottom.
VideoDownloadHelper works for Chrome and Firefox, it's what I often use on my laptop for random videos. A little icon to click to DL videos, works for none yt videos too.
Kodi + youtube addon (in kodi's addon repos) + having a downloader added to playercorefactory^1 (I use wget as I use linux). If you have linux, you can check out this script I made. For windwos/osx, well, get a DL program, and add it to playercorefactory yourself, then just play with said program.
1:Check out how to set up a playercorefactory here
Best bet would be a MHL dock + a bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo thing.
Something like this: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-note-4-case-compatible-hdmi-charging-dock-p48629.htm
This: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291918120433
And XBMC/Kodi for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Livestreaming - if there's an app for it, it should work with the dock.
I don't know about recording, you'd need to use "catch-up" apps like iPlayer/4oD/ITV Hub etc.
With the dock you could just unplug it and use it anywhere in the house, a la Nintendo Switch.

~~What's the benefit of this over just using Kodi?~~
Edit - Nevermind, saw your other comment.
I dunno about iOS

Hey, everybody! Let's think of some silver linings! It can still be a...
Things to do with a busted-ass-screen S4

Media Server (w/ BubbleUPnP or other)

Not sure how--HDMI+MAME+controllers == arcade game emulator!
For Sickrage or for Kodi ?.
My Sickrage/Emby/Kodi setup is quite complex and all automated with Docker and inotify and custom scripts. This would deserve a whole blog post to explain it in details.
But for Kodi and Genesis/Salts here a small explanation:
Kodi can be downloaded from the playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Once you open Kodi you need to install plugins
Genesis: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-manually-install-gotv-for-xbmc/
Salts: https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-salts-stream-all-the-sources-for-xbmc-kodi/
I also recommend a better theme for the Nexus player: https://seo-michael.co.uk/arctic-zephyr-skin-kodi-xbmc/
With that you can replace Popcorn time. It's not as "beautiful" but it works rather well.
If you have a smart TV you may be able to install Kodi (this used be known as XBMC Xbox media center but had to rebrand due to using the Microsoft copyright) onto your TV. Kodi Google Play Store Link
There is a Sky Go add on that you can use (note you will need to have a sky subroutine to sign in)
https://www.matthuisman.nz/2021/05/sky-go-nz-kodi-add-on.html
At this point, you should probably just run kodi on your phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
This is what osmc is running.
Then replace first step with
Then just replace the first step with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
Take a look at Kodi. It has a lot of features, but it does automatic metadata retrieval.
Chromecast generally reduces the quality/resolution in my experience as well.
What you need is a UPnP renderer like Kodi on your TV and a DLNA server app on your phone. Just enable the server on the phone and browse any media (photos, movies and music) in Kodi at full resolution.
Kodi: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
DLNA server: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.al.dlnaserver OR Bubble UPnP: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp
I don't know anything about Xanax. Seems like a build from someone other than the XBMC folks?

most users rely on kodi
You seem to really want a webapp. I'd like to offer a different solution:
Kodi+VPN
VPN puts you on the same network as your other hardware. This is a super secure way to give yourself access to stuff, like a Kodi server on your home network.
Kodi is a multimedia suite suitable for movies, music, television, games, and more. Kodi offers many ways to tie clients together, so you can use one Kodi client to stream data from another device running Kodi (which acts as the server.) For example, you can stream media from a Raspberry Pi running Kodi to an android phone running Kodi.
You mentioned a low memory ARMv7 server. I assume this is a Raspberry Pi. If it is, you can use the LibreElec Pi image to get a pre-configured Kodi installation set up in a jiffy. If not, there are a dozen ways to set up Kodi on all kinds of hardware.
Kodi has full android app for your mobile device. Since each Kodi app can run its own theme, you can install Kodi then install a good mobile user interface to stream your music.
I hope you'll consider this as an option, but I understand if it doesn't meet your needs. :)
Download KODI, either as an app from the app store KODI or as an an APK from either one of your trusted APk sites. KODI, in and of itself, is basically just a media streaming platform that you can customize yourself with 1,000's of addons and program's. Unlike a website it's not crawling with unwanted ad's and tons of other garbage you'd normally find associated with pirate website's. It's clean, highly customizable, available on many platforms and of course free. KODI, in and of itself is 100% legal. What you download and add to KODI is where you start to get into the grey area as some of the addon's and programs are considered illegal but this shouldn't be a problem as long as you use a VPN to protect yourself. I recommend you use a VPN at all times when running KODI and not while just downloading. My favorite free VPN is available in the app store InvisibleNET they don't throttle your speeds and its unlimited. Also, if you're not very tech savvy or if you simply would just like to save time with configuring KODI I recommend you use a configurator to customize/setup your KODI. I recommend configurator for KODI, again from the app store configurator for KODI they have literally 1000's of addon's and its very simple to use. Hope you this helps :)
Kodi? With Google Drive add-on
You could give Kodi a whirl.

I do it the old MySQL way (http://kodi.wiki/view/MySQL) because I've been doing it that way for years but these days they also do it over UPnP (http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Share_libraries_using_UPnP)

Because I'm still not seeing what a proprietary app where half the features are tied to a subscription is gaining me?
I installed it about a year ago. I liked the fact that it worked on Chromecast and supported browser playback, but needing to pay for Xbox One or Android apps to work fully is a real turn-off.
The only feature I can think of that I'm actually missing is transcoding, which doesn't matter for 90% of my content on any of my devices. Almost everything I have is H.264 and all my devices have hardware H.264 playback support, so...
Or maybe you could install from the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kodi
