There's a decent amount of VNs for iOS if you're interested in that. Kira Kira, Corpse Party, Steins;Gate, Higurashi and Ace Attorney off the top of my head.
If you've got an Android and are interested in VNs check out VNDS.
You mean like VNDS? This takes the assets of a VN and uses a custom engine to run them. However, each engine/VN has its own methods of storing and displaying assets and handling input so there's no solution that just works for any VN. VNs need to be manually converted to work with VNDS
You also can't make a VN natively run on different CPU architecture and with different frameworks without re-compiling the engine from source, and it usually takes a fair bit of modification to work properly.
If you're looking for a way to play any VN on mobile I'd use something like Splashtop to remotely view a pc running the VN
It's not perfect, but you can use VNDS to read VNs that have been converted to work on it. It's $1.99, but there's a free version you can use to test with that won't save progress. A PC is obviously better, so you might want to consider investing in a cheap ~$100-$150 Windows 10 tablet at some point. Out of curiosity, what VNs are you interested in? Depending on what it is, it may be possible to jerry-rig it to run on Android.
Are VNDS Interpreter and/or Visual Novel Reader still the best way to experience VNs on Android? Both of them have not been updated in more than a year.
Anybody else have trouble buying VNDS Interpreter Pro on the Google Play store? Gives me an "invalid payment method" with gift card credit and debit card. Does anybody know any reputable alternatives for mobile VN reading?
>But I just can't read books off a monitor, while sitting in an office chair. All I can think of is why is it not a book? Or even better, why is it not on tablets.
ehm You know that there are programs for android to emulate visual novels?
BTW: Katawa shoujo have android port
Since your request is very vague i'll assume that any genre and any length is fine:
Umineko, which i myself am reading at the moment. It's a mystery novel, very lengthy (Umineko+Chiru is probably 100+ hours). Be sure to get the Umitweak version (ps3 sprites + voice patch, the OST is top notch).
Higurashi, a mystery/horror novel by the same author as Umineko. It's very lenghty (50+ hours). You can get the ps2 sprites patch if you don't like the original ones. I believe a CG patch was released recently but i'm not entirely sure.
Fate/Stay Night, it looks like an action novel, but it becomes more than just this later on. This novel is very lengthy as well.
To read those visual novels on your phone you're going to need VNDS Interpreter. You'll also need the copy of the visual novel on your PC in order to convert it, to make it become playable on android.
If you don't know how to convert the visual novels there are guides on internet, just search on google "visual novels on android".
