I've always found the Android Facebook app a bit shit. I've been using the Tinfoil for Facebook app for ages as a replacement. Bonus - you can use messenger from within the app.
Tinfoil works good too if you still want an app icon on your phone. Its basically just an app wrapper to the mobile website. Been using it for awhile now since the FB app & Messenger seem to kill my battery pretty quickly.
EDIT: Quite a bit of conversation about Tinfoil; here is the link to the app on the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
I use tinfoil hat on my phone with trillian as my fb messenger
I use Tinfoil for Facebook. It's just a wrap for the mobile site (with some privacy controls), but I like having it instead of having to fire up Facebook on Chrome.
Have you tried Tinfoil for Facebook? It creates a wrapper for Facebook's mobile site. It also creates a sandbox to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
Right, because having your name and face on there is somehow less identifying than your phone number.
If you're worried about it don't use the mobile app or use Tinfoil.
I deleted Facebook from my Android long, long ago, and doubled my battery life. Just the act of removing that one application, an application I almost never used anyway, added 7 new hours of battery life to my device. Why? LBE Security Master showed Facebook requesting and reporting my location every 30s and 60s, 24x7, eating up my battery and data plan.
I also un-flashed SNS from the ROM, since this speaks the Facebook (and other social network) APIs, so other apps can call Facebook, even when it's not installed (again, to send Contacts, send location update data, etc.)
I now use Tinfoil for Facebook exclusively (and locked down, using LBE Security Master v6). You should too.
There is absolutely zero reason to have Facebook installed on your device anymore, nor WhatsApp. The egregious privacy implications should be enough to keep people away from using it.
You can also use Tinfoil for Facebook or Hermit for Facebook & WhatsApp
Kann jedem Tinfoil for Facebook (bzw. Tinfoil for Twitter) ans Herz legen.
Or Tinfoil for Facebook, which unfortunately doesn't support notifications. Overall I like Tinfoil though.
I use Tinfoil for Android after somebody mentioned it on reddit a few months back. Basically it's a container for chrome, that loads just facebook's mobile site. So you can stay signed in, but just from within Tinfoil. So no more battery issues, and facebook can't track you, or your browsing habits (cookies) - just be sure to turn of location tracking from within tinfoil.
Tinfoil for facebook https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Tinfoil for Facebook is for those users that require a Tinfoil Hat when logging in to Facebook. It creates a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
Requires INTERNET permissions. Feel free to check the source code here: https://github.com/velazcod/Tinfoil-Facebook
It also requires the "COARSE_LOCATION" permission. This is not used unless you enable "Allow Check-ins" on the preferences, otherwise Check-ins won't work. This option is disabled by default.
If you have issues, please remember that Tinfoil is just a wrapper for the Facebook mobile site. Some things break on the site and there isn't much we can do to fix some issues. Sometimes forcing the user-agent helps (Preferences -> Mobile/desktop site -> Force mobile). If you find an issue and are completely it's a problem with Tinfoil please open a issue in the Github tracker:
You're making assumptions about me that you don't know. I use Facebook but I only access it from the Tinfoil app. I use FDroid as much as I can and do my online searches through DuckDuckGo. I use Firefox and uBlock to ensure that little to no tracking is done with my web browsing. I use as much FLOSS as I possibly can to be sure I have the freedom to look into what I am using. I use Google's tracking services for their products I use (Google Fit, Gmail, Drive). These products provide me a benefit that comes from their tracking. I don't mind giving up some privacy in exchange for a service that I find valuable.
Microsoft provides me no benefit for allowing them to track me and my usage. I don't mind tracking users and what they do. I do mind tracking that is only meant to benefit the tracker. The disconnect from reality comes into play when users do not want to admit they are not respected by a company they have trust in.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
He made this so you can more easily control the permissions. I love it. My whole family uses this instead of the damn stupid app.
Don't use the facebook app. Install tinfoil for facebook: it's just a wrapper for their mobile website, which has all the functionality apart from the notifications.
> It was proven you phone uses 20% more battery just having it installed, facebook recommended using the mobile website instead if you need more juice...
Tinfoil: it's a wrapper for the mobile website.
Edit: link
official FB app is fucking terrible - both for storage and battery life.
I use Tinfoil which is basically the mobile site in a wrapper.
Downside (or upside?) is that you don't get notifications or messages.
There's also Metal for Facebook.
For messages I used to use Disa, but it's more of an SMS app that also does FB messages.
Do 'most' facebook users really use an app? I'd be interested in some statistics there...
As it is, this is (a part of) why I'd never install facebook's app even if paid to - not to mention the HUGE list of horrendously intrusive permissions it requests (you need fucking camera/SMS/running apps/add and remove device accounts/modify contacts/GPS location/dial phone numbers/reorder apps/battery stats access WHY EXACTLY? Oh, right, you don't need it).
Tinfoil ftw for if you really need mobile facebook access.
I only use "Tinfoil for Facebook". Sure, it crashes every time you try to start a chat, but at least it's not the official one.
A bit off topic, but have you checked out Tinfoil for Facebook? It's a wrapper around the mobile site with some added functionality and removal of some of the more creepy Facebook background data collection.
TinFoil for Facebook is another good option https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
I have Facebook Messenger installed on my phone too so I don't need to log in to message anybody, and I can just use the chat part of Facebook. I'm leaving myself logged out of Facebook on my phone and computer, other than Messenger, which also helps, because then I have to think if there's an actual reason to go on Facebook, other than wasting time. Then I don't go on Facebook, and go back to wasting time on Reddit.
If you're on Android, Tinfoil for Facebook and Disa for Messenger are really good.
Originally I uninstalled FB when I had lollipop and saw improvement on battery life. I still use FB but with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en > Tinfoil for Facebook is for those users that require a Tinfoil Hat when logging in to Facebook. It creates a sandbox for Facebook's mobile site in order to protect your privacy and to avoid the ability others to track your browsing history.
Keep in mind, you don't receive notifications like you would with the official app.
> More so that some think, people have found recently that their battery on their phones are draining quickly becuae Facebook is tracking all their movements even when they have told the program not to run in the background.
Tinfoil app avoids this.
Disable it and try one of the alternatives. I've been using Tinfoil, which isn't ideal because you can't upload photos, but there are others if you look.
Does that include "Tinfoil For Facebook"? I have deactivated my factory Facebook-app on my Galaxy S6 (reads as 0.00Mb and "deactivated" in the program manager), and I installed Tinfoil last year, does that spend the same amount of battery?
I never get notifications or status updates from it. The Tinfoil for Facebook-program takes up 3.45mb, with 1.5 mb of data.
1)
> Uninstall Facebook.
Great idea, and I have a couple tips for uninstalling it:
Open up your browser and create a bookmark to Facebook, and add it to your homescreen. If you want, you can allow FB to show you notifications in your browser. So you can still get the "beep beep bloops" all day from Facebook, if you prefer.
An even better route would be to get a browser sandbox app specifically designed for Facebook. The one I linked does not have such a great title but it's one that's been around for a while. This allows you to have an app and app shortcut like normal. It also increases your online safety though no solution is perfect -- you can be logged out of Facebook in your normal browser and not dragging [logged-in] cookies and local storage data around the entire time you are doing your thing on the web. Those apps keep your login cookies and storage data sandboxed. The same types of apps are available for Twitter as well.
2)
> they want to send back the little bits of data the app's company needs to better market to you. This is okay...
That is not okay.
Tinfoil is quite good and what I use every day. There's no updates while you're not looking at FB, but that's a good thing addiction wise.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Facebook app for android is complete garbage. A lot of people told me to uninstall it and use the browser, but it didn't feel as good. Once I uninstalled, my battery gets atleast an extra 30% charge per day. It also runs faster.
If you want an alternative, check out tinfoil for facebook. It's an app wrapped version of facebook for web
You could use Tinfoil
I use facebook as a people catalog, it's the best way to contact someone when you need and know if something really important has happened.
Same here. On Android, there's a container-app called Tinfoil for Facebook. Works well most of the time, but with some limitations (e.g., sharing someone's post on a friend's wall).
I use Tinfoil for facebook
It's just a webview dedicated for facebook with a side swipe menu to refresh or jump back to the top of the page.
Biggest bonus is facebook can't do any tricks to read your cookies and stuff because it's all self contained.
I use Tinfoil for Facebook. It's an app that acts like a browser wrapper for the mobile site, so it won't give up anything that you wouldn't be passing on by accessing the site through a regular browser.
Yes, the app does take things to a new level. You can't sandbox it as effectively you can on a PC, at least not with current mobile OS'. Edit: I'm wrong, someone wrote a wrapper app.
For those who want to access Facebook on Android, I recommend Tinfoil for Facebook
Basically an isolated web container for viewing Facebook in a browser on your phone. I think Firefox has a similar feature now, but it's nice having an isolated container independent of any installed browser that also allows you to switch from mobile to desktop to "Web 1.0" views so you can view Facebook messages without downloading Messenger.
Assuming you still use it at all, which is becoming less and less of a desire for me.
I can confirm that my 6P has started lagging since I installed the Facebook app. I'm going to delete it and install Tinfoil to access my FB feed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en_GB
Use Tinfoil for Facebook on Android. You get the mobile web app, but its separate from your main browser so they can't track your browsing history either.
Check out Tinfoil. Allows you access to pretty much everything that's on FB's desktop version, but without their shittily coded mobile site. Also, disables notifications! So that might be a downside or upside for you.
I physically removed Facebook from my ROM a couple of years ago, and doubled my battery life in the process.
I also removed the SNS service as well, since it was doing background location updates every 30 seconds, pushing that data to Facebook's servers (thank you LBE and Android Firewall for alerting me!) even when I had never visited Facebook.
Other apps and services were requesting my location and sending those updates to Facebook. The SNS service is the background service that provides the Social Networking Services to those other apps. This constant (unauthorized) location tracking was rapidly draining my battery away.
Now I have double the battery life and I use Tinfoil for Facebook (not Chrome as mentioned in the OPs article) when I need to get to Facebook for anything. You won't get image uploads or check-ins, but you probably don't need that anyway.
Incidentally, I uninstalled ("froze") mobile Chrome on my device because it too, was constantly waking up, even when never launched after a clean restart, causing my device to have excessive CPU wakelocks. I use the standard, built-in Internet browser that comes with Android because it doesn't drain my battery like Facebook, SNS and Chrome do (thank you Amplify, Wakelock Detector, Wakelock Terminator and GSAM Battery Monitor!)
If you're on Android, try Tinfoil for Facebook. It's a wrapper for the mobile site and works pretty slickly.
I actually disabled my account recently. The phantom limb still tingles but I know that nothing there is real.
No, you can't download/install to the SD card automatically. Here's a tip though, the Facebook app is a hog (caches everything), so you could use Tinfoil for Facebook/Facebook Lite (Google it), or you could clear data and uninstall the Facebook app before updating it. If I still had a Facebook and I was you, I'd go with the former, as it's much easier and takes waaayyy less storage (452kb vs 46MB + cache).
Facebook was always a huge battery hog for me till I severely limited its wakelocks, alarms and services with Amplify.
FWIW I just kicked Facebook off my phone because it took 15 minutes for the last update to install and switched to Tinfoil, which is just a wrapper around the mobile page.
I've found that the fb app takes huge amount of charge away. That is why I use tinfoil. Though in the end I only get ~6 hours screen on time.
Lollipop bugs and wakelocks, look at the 'awake' bar compared to the 'screen-on' bar.
Between that and the poor reception it's killing your standby time.
Social media apps on Android are notorious for waking your phone, as are many games and emulators, you can try to find the rogue apps but I'd recommend just installing the bare essentials until Android 6.0 hits. Lollipop is notorious for absolutely wrecking battery life and standby times. Install TinFoil for Facebook instead, disable location and 'always-on WiFi scanning' and only use 'High Accuracy' when you need a GPS, battery-saving and device-only take too long to get a lock.
And if you don't use Google Now often, disable it. Disabling Now improves battery life pretty significantly on every phone.
If you're concerned about privacy you shouldn't be using Facebook at all. If you really want to keep using it, at least install Tinfoil for Facebook instead of the official app.
Its an app that wraps the mobile browser version of Facebook in something slightly easier to use. Its not always running in the background, can't check your location constantly so its great for people who are careful about their privacy (hence Tinfoil - hat).
Its just much less intensive on my CPU and battery so I've enjoyed it.
You're using a Nexus 6 (edit: Stock... probably 5.1)... Edit2: You're probably British... working in Tech finance... now living on the west coast... SF probably but maybe Seattle. Edit3: I'll add the whole "or you want to work in tech finance and you want to be British" lol
and you should consider Tinfoil for Facebook - you can still message on it and all the other fun stuff... but it's going via the Web API and therefore is so much fucking better on your battery... aaaaand it doesn't give facebook an insane amount of access to your phone.
You can go a step further than using firefox for facebook, there's tinfoil, which is a webview purely for facebook. As I understand, it stops it from reading cookies and trying to suck up information on other webpages you're on and limits it just to what you view directly through the app.
> Install an extra browser on your Android, and use it only for Facebook.
Tinfoil basically exists for this reason.
Tinfoil for Facebook on Android... Other than asshole Facebook not letting you use it to message, it's a step in the right direction.
Check out wrapper-apps like tinfoilhat for facebook. Uses android webview - like fx focus - and blocks a few privacy intrusion measures - like fx focus. It accepts the login-cookie, though so you remain logged in. There are more of these kind of apps, be careful as there is a lot of junk out there, though
When I had the OP2, I get about 3.5-4hr of SoT per day. That is with wifi, bluetooth, and gps 'on' all day. Though I don't use much social media and use Tinfoil for Facebook and FB Messenger Lite rather than the facebook app. I also don't use Google Assistant Feed cards. I find the feed to be fairly battery heavy.
Have you tried letting GSAM battery monitor to see if you have any rogue apps?
If it's an issue with having to use the browser but you don't mind the browser-based version of the site you could try Tinfoil for Facebook. It's a simple wrapper that turns the mobile site into an app (basically), but also adds security (HTTPS) to the login.
If you really need Facebook there are better apps. There is the official Facebook Lite, but if you are already at it, there are alternatives with a few more options like Face Slim or Tinfoil for Facebook.
I use Tinfoil and it allows me to tag people simply by typing their name and then clicking on the person that I want to tag. However, it's not super-consistent.
Not counting the Samsung Blackjack II, my first smartphone and none of them marketed updates as a reason to upgrade is the fingerprint sensor IMO. <strong>Tinfoil for Facebook</strong> - Free - Rating: 87/100 - Search for 'coffee sms' on the <strong>Play Store</strong>.
Except he'll only be able to prevent her need to use his PC for a few hours because the facebook app will chew through battery, use an app called Tinfoil for Facebook it's a skinned browsers but she should be able to get a lot more battery life out of her phone, so they can play more Overwatch.
I just saw this app mentioned on another website, currently using Tinfoild for Facebook and was intrigued by this app as it appears to be actually updated! Quick question: If I disable the app from "loading on boot" I won't have to worry about configuring your "quiet times" from within the app? I don't want it automatically syncing at all, I can do it manually when I launch the app. TIA!
> Open Facebook in the browser
I use Tinfoil, it's a sandboxed browser tab wrapped in some basic UI and can't get location, contacts or any data at all.
edit: link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
This is a great application for Facebook on the android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Edit: others have already linked it: https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/43o3lf/uninstalling_facebook_app_saves_up_to_20_of/czjmjk8
Maybe not the answer you're looking for, but Tinfoil for Facebook will let you use FB with much less battery drain, and there's also Facebook Lite.
You can also conserve more battery by disabling Bluetooth and NFC when they're not actively in use. If that's not enough, you can also disable automatic Gmail syncing and just manually check for more mail by swiping down in the app.
I just use Messenger on my phone, not the actual FB app. Does anyone know if Tinfoil does the creepy microphone pick ups?
I noticed the Facebook Android app was using background data even after I’d disabled all its sync- and location-related settings. Not okay. I usually don’t even Facebook with my phone; I just want it around in case I want to look something up (like an address for a party). I found this app that keeps Facebook in its own, isolated browser.
Well, you could try Tinfoil for Facebook, which is basically a wrapper around the Facebook Website.
Unfortunately, that means you don't get Notifications but on the otherside no data drain either. Also, it saves the 'most recent' setting, you actually see what you want.
Also, gives great privacy and is open source.
(FYI, I don't own an OPO, but I don't see this as an OPO only question)
For privacy concerns on the phone, try Tinfoil for Facebook. It's just a wrapper for the mobile site, designed to keep permissions to a minimum. If you still want mobile notifications you can use an IFTTT to do this.
Check out the app Tinfoil as an alternative to Facebook: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
It's basically just the web interface to Facebook, but it stores all of the cookies separate from your normal browser, which is nice for privacy.
I don't know how much it would help but instead of using the full facebook app try tinfoil for facebook.
It only takes up a fraction of the space of the full facebook app (3mb instead of 140mb) and for me, it doesn't eat up any battery.
You should also take into account the brightness of your screen (the brightest setting uses A LOT more battery than say the lowest one). At least it does for my ZR. I don't know how else to help you :/
As for the lockscreen, I honestly have no idea. If you swipe away from the corner you should see a white circle growing larger and if you have no password, filling the whole screen. After that the apps should open. If the problem still persists try searching from different forums, maybe other people have the same problem?
Read the permissions on your FB mobile app. They have access to everything, they say the don't use it, but they have access your text messages, phone calls and address book, camera, location. I'm not saying they use this access inappropriately, but I'm not convinced they don't either.
Side note, at work one of our customers ended up sperating from his wife because he didn't know that his mobile app activity was posting to his account, so he thought he was being sneaky while he was communicationg with an ex girlfriend.
I just found this (not an endorsement, but interesting) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Hello. I use Tinfoil for Facebook, but since its a web Facebook wrapper, I do not get notifications when I receive a chat message. Is there any way to use an automation app to trigger a notification? It doesn't even have to display what the message says, it just needs to give me a notification when I get a message.
Edit: Moto X (2013) 4.4.4
Whatever happened to "don't post shit you don't want the whole fucking world to know"? Edit: someone is way ahead of this.
Agreed, link for the lazy.
Tinfoil is a great alternative if you have an Android.
I use tinfoil for facebook
Tinfoil for Facebook is a good alternative for Facebook users on Android.. The source code has been scrutinized from github and verified to have no sinister functions.

Use tinfoil for facebook instead
Not OP, but here!
If you have Android you can use Tinfoil for Facebook.
tinfoil for facebook!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Use Tinfoil for Facebook to avoid targeted ads.
But you'll trade for notifications.
Just use Tinfoil. Lets you do pretty much everything except get real time notifications.
Loads the mobile site in its own browser context. You aren't logged in on your main browser. Yes it's the mobile site in a webview (and swipe left for some neat stuff) - but you can route through proxies and other neat tricks.
Not sure. I wouldn't use the Facebook app. You can use Facebook Lite, Tinfoil for Facebook, or just your normal browser with an app like Notify.
I've been using "Tinfoil" for Facebook since it launched years ago. It's a webview wrapper for Facebook with extra features. I downloaded my facebook data and ran this script. 0 results. They couldn't get my call data through a browser.
I recommend Tinfoil Hat for Facebook. It requires like three permissions.
Then they might see why people choose to use Tinfoil
Nope, already using the best Facebook app on Android, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
If it's on the phone, I don't think super cookies apply here. Instead it's app permissions. The official Facebook app asks for a fuckton of permissions which gives them access to almost everything you do on the device.
This is from the app page, Facebook has access to all this. As an alternative, albeit a basic version, use Tinfoil for Facebook.

If you're on Android, Tinfoil for Facebook is basically just a wrapped around the Facebook mobile site.
I like Tinfoil for Facebook.
It's basically just a wrapper for the Facebook Mobile site.
I use two things:
I use an app called Tinfoil for facebook that's basically a wrapper for their mobile site.
That's why I use tinfoil for facebook if and when I need it
Yup, either using Chrome or something like Tinfoil if you prefer a dedicated app will do a lot for your battery.
I guess it's called a Wrapper? I am not very knowledgeable about mobile apps.

THIS IS A WRAPPER FOR FACEBOOK'S MOBILE SITE, IF SOMETHING BREAKS ON THE SITE, THERE ISN'T MUCH I CAN DO.

The podcast "Reply All" did a great episode on this. Facebook doesn't actually listen through your phone's mic - but they don't need to, because they have so much other data on you.
Basically:
I'd highly recommend using Firefox with their Facebook container extension, and on mobile using Tinfoil for Facebook if you're on Android. And if you do have to use the real app on mobile, never give it location permissions.
Ik Facebook op Android met Tinfoil for Facebook app
Tinfoil for Facebook, Tinfoil for Twitter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
I am far from an expert, but will share what I do and hope that someone with more savvy will critique/tell me if I'm missing something.
For my tiny forays onto Facebook I use the small footprint JustBrowsing VM via Oracle VirtualBox. As I understand it, it keeps no history whatsoever between powering it off.
For mobile, I have the TinFoil app. I rarely use it, so can't say much about it.
Facebook has a Facebook-only address that forwards to my regular mail. I doubt I'm doing enough, but I have Outlook configured to not download pictures (are web bugs still a thing?).
I occasionally visit links directly within Facebook, but I mostly copy/paste them into another, completely different VM. That (Firefox) browser and my main-use browser have Facebook Disconnect add-on (and Ghostery, NoScript, etc.).
I think that's about all I do, but welcome further suggestions or holes in my approach.
funnily enough, there's an app to use facebook without the official app (it's a wrapper)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
Download this 3rd party facebook app and it should be working good. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
I love not having the app anymore. Seriously, just do yourself a favor and use the mobile site or a wrapper, like Tinfoil.
Instead of Facebook, I recommend Tinfoil. It has more privacy and is easier on your battery.
I use Tinfoil for Facebook which is just the mobile site in an app with awesome privacy.
This is actually a thing. Who knew!
I use tinfoil for Facebook. Much better, no battery drain.
Looks like Android has something similar, called Tinfoil for Facebook
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
Good point. also tinfoil is a good alternative: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper&hl=en
I highly recommend Tinfoil on Android, which is essentially a wrapper for the mobile site.
psst! Tinfoil for Facebook!

I don't use Facebook. My wife uses this wrapper app and she likes it.
My favorites are:
Tinfoil for Facebook. Extremely light on both data and size, this is just a web wrapper for the Facebook mobile site, so it doesn't have features like notifications - which to me is a plus, and
Swipe for Facebook, which is slightly slower but has the option of a nice dark theme to help save battery on my LED screen (it makes no difference on LCD screens but looks nice).
Facebook Lite is also nice, though worse than the other two. It's basically just a web wrapper like Tinfoil, but it's the official web wrapper, if that matters to you (it shouldn't).
There are applications that are basically wrappers around the website.

No, not the claim. The app, Tinfoil, is naught but a wrapper for the mobile page.
Wtf is your problem buddy? I just asked if he's ever used this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper

Tinfoil for Facebook is what you guys need
Facebook Lite is one option. Another would be a Facebook wrapper like Tinfoil for Facebook or Metal for Facebook.
¯_(ツ)_/¯ I haven't used the Facebook app since my og droid. It's been tin foil https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper all the way.
Another option is to use Tinfoil Hat. It's basically a web view with no permissions.
Tinfoil was such a good app to have on my old phone.
Is there no alternative to Tinfoil for iOS?
Yeah that should work, sometimes the radio stays on even when connected to WiFi and the Location wakelocks are keeping your phone awake.
Greenify would also help a lot, just greenify the lesser used apps (especially games) since they tend to wake the phone a lot to collect location data. Just leave a Greenify widget on the home screen or in a folder to make it easy to manually greenify apps.
Fitness apps (and location history) tend to wake the phone the most, they use a substantial amount of battery in the background. Removing them and turning off location services would help a lot with wakelocks.
And lastly, the official social media apps suck. They keep your phone on to mine your data, use these instead:
These are my stats with these settings (5 hour SOT, but minimal wakelocks):
Most of these issues are confirmed to be fixed with Marshmallow though.
you could try this one:

Then you need Tinfoil for Facebook! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.danvelazco.fbwrapper
With these installed and running, configured accordingly, my Galaxy Note 3 battery lasts about 36 hours with moderate calls, Internet, streaming/Pandora use, with Bluetooth and NFC enabled.
My rooted Galaxy Note 2 running CM10 gets about 42 hours with the same/similar modifications. It does make a huge difference.
I use Tinfoil For Facebook. No background sync, no spyware BS, no scarily intrusive permissions.
Tinfoil for Facebook.
use Tinfoil.
You won't get nofitications, but you can use facebook as in desktop.
Try this instead. No notifications, doesn't track your location, and doesn't demand access to all your personal information to use.
I use Tinfoil on Android to prevent Facebook from sniffing for information that I don't want it getting.
It is very possible that you are being recorded as well as being tracked in a bunch of other ways. This app allows you to use Facebook with out giving it access to your mic, GPS, or browser data.
Tinfoil for Facebook is an app that loads mobile FB (the web version) in a wrapper. You can use it to access your messages as well.
I suggest using Tinfoil for Facebook then.
