If you love Xiaomi, MiUI, MiCloud and other Mi feature so much, here I'll give you the list based on gsmarena.com and r/Xiaomi database.
I also give a Samsung recomendation (C5 Pro) here that quite similar to Mi Max 2.

things to be considered:
GBP was released on 2017/03/16, that was an era of 2.2 GHz 4-core -> 8-core; Adreno 506->530, 4 GB RAM.
However, the trend of flagship goes into 4-core->8-core; Snapdragon 821->835; @2.2 GHz->@2.45GHz; and 6->8GB RAM, so you should consider on investing on higher specs (especially the CPU chipset and frequency) as game developers will follow the latest technology or you'll ended up like me, being constrained by technology limitation. Mi 6 will be more expensive than Mi Max 2/C5 Pro but not as expensive as iPhone7/8/X or Galaxy S8.
If you can afford above 400 EUR class (I suggest goes all the way to Mi 6 with SD835 CPU and Adreno 540 and 8GB RAM). r/Xiaomi stated that SD835 Chipset could handle game tasking better than SD625/6 and Adreno 540 could support better Ultra-HD game, i.e you can play Deresute with Rich 3D, or maybe SIF All-star which will be released next year. But please be ready to dedicated that 400 EUR as a non-portable gaming gadget (explained it below). If not, then go for a mid class; the 300 EUR class. It's between Mi Max 2 and C5 Pro. Choosing M5s Plus is a bit risky as it only has 4 cores and 1 year behind.
One thing I noticed is Mi Max 2 have a good battery capacity, so you can play for a longer time before charging and help to keep you battery health.
Charge it on 10-20% (no playing when charging) until full, then play until it reaches 20% again.
In my case, my Mi4i's battery is literally dead because I used it for "tier 1"-ing a lot on SIF. Now I can only use my Mi4i with charger plugged. lol
C5 Pro is very lacking on battery, so if you're ready to let the phone charged forever, then choose C5 Pro.
^(EDIT: Bigger screen is better for gaming. However, I have no real problem with 5" screen on my Mi4i.)
^(EDIT 2:add CPU chipset and 3.5mm jack analysis)
Once again, this's just just a hypothetic guess for budget gadget. I don't know for sure if Mi max 2 with SD 625 @2.0 GHz will be stable enough for a long time and your future gaming.
My best bet is to buy Galaxy C5 Pro for gaming only and be ready to plug it 24/7 if you're using it on heavy use. lol
If you want the best experience then go with Mi 6 and a pair of wireless earphones.
The decision is yours.
Alternatively: You can also ask someone with Mi Max 2 on r/Xiaomi to test Bandori. but I don't know if you could meet some Japanese enthusiasts there >_<
I heavily recommend people use the store over an APK if you want to save headaches in the long run.
The game will be in it's infancy so expect A LOT of store updates (and thus, new APKs each time) so if you want to avoid this. Follow the guide on SIT:

and just replace the download links with these:
