It doesn't do Netflix but it does local files. Netflix would likely have to be Xposed or some root app without official support.
Just use AllCast I stream movies to both my Xbox One and Chromecast just fine with MovieHD (Watch almost latest movies on it like Poltergeist 2015) or ShowBox (Same as MovieHD but slow as shit)
There's really only two Chromecast features on mobile phones:
(the third CC feature would be casting a Chrome browser tab but that's only on PC)
#1 works on Nexus and Pixel devices running 4.1+, and possibly other Android phones (dunno if a heavily modified ROM on a Samsung or HTC allows screencasting, but I could be wrong).
#2 is for any Android phone running 4.1+ or any iOS device on iOS 8 or higher.
I'm not sure what the iOS app situation is like but on Android there's a lot of 3rd party apps for casting media stored on the phone itself. AllCast and LocalCast are two popular apps that come to mind.
Yes you can cast your screen and it will mirror your screen to the TV.
If you have your screen cast, it'll show what's on your screen, so if you're playing a youtube video, it'll show that video. If you cast the video to the chromecast, it essentially sends a link to the video and the chromecast streams that link.
If you want to cast locally stored music and videos, I recommend an app like AllCast
Sadly there's no universal standard like on iPhones. The app needs to support streaming to the specific device. If you are using Google Music, you can get a Chromecast and stream music to it.
If you already own AppleTV's, you could give AllCast a try.
The digital pass is a classic case of the NRL trying to have its cake and eat it too. They can obviously see there's a future in streaming, but they're afraid to anger the broadcasters by making a digital product that is actually a compelling alternative.
Now, if the low resolution dosen't put you off, I'm pretty sure I had success using AllCast to get the stream from my phone to other devices. That was back in 2014 (I think) though so I'm not sure if it still works. It's a paid app but it has a limited trial so you can try it out.
It seems there might be some updating needed to support either your Galaxy S6 or Lollipop, as the Roku app has video streaming built in as of 2013.
https://blog.roku.com/blog/2013/09/09/roku-android-app-adds-video-streaming/
Allcast is a fantastic app, and clockworkmod is a developer worth purchasing from. If the roku app won't display video streaming as an option, your best bet would be Allcast premium.
The streaming standard for media is DLNA FYI. Setup a simple DLNA server such as http://serviio.org/
Then to view on android use a DLNA viewer such as https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast&hl=en
Allcast should be fairly good, it's by the cyanogenmod team.
Enjoy :)
If this is a smart TV then it will have casting capabilities such as using Chromecast. With that in mind there are completely free apps available to cast the video from cellphone to TV.
I personally have used AllCast many times in the past and it works with .MKV
I do not know whether any android browser can cast media but you can try using AllCast or Web Media Share to cast your media using the share option.
If you can download the movies/shows you want to watch, you can use a third party app to cast to your TV. I recommend AllCast as I never have problems with it, there's no lag whatsoever. You can get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
Isn't this something called "Casting", and thus more relying on the Apps you use rather than the device.
a quck search found https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast&hl=en_US
disclaimer: I have not used this feature, nor have I researched it.
Btw, if you still have the chromecast you might be able to use third party casting apps like AllCast to cast your drive content.
A new update of Allcast introduced torrent casting and it works well. It has also the option to convert video files before casting if Chromecast doesn't support the video format you wish to cast.
Use an intermediary app, such as AllCast, to cast to Xbox or smart TVs that don't come with Google Cast built in; select Open in... (far right) option when selecting a video link. You'll need the corresponding receiver app on the xbone or whatever device on which you watch.
Web Video Cast is another good app I've used. It acts as a web browser for opening the video sources (as they are just URLs) and pairs with an app on, for example and in my experience, an LG WebOS TV. Peruse the settings section of any app you end up using for optimal performance; for instance, this app has an option to process the video on the phone, rather than the receiver device, in case some videos have trouble playing.
Best of luck.

Not a stupid question at all, and you know what, I misread your "audio out" as optical out. Whoops.
Optical is a unique connection type that uses light instead of electricity. It also supports multi channel sound, but due to bandwidth constraints it got outdated once HDMI came out. Now its pretty much only used for stereo audio-only setups.
Airplay is unfortunately only usable with Apple products out of the box, but you could use Allcast to play music files over airplay. I would honestly just recommend picking up a Chromecast to use cross platform, as you could use other streaming services to cast audio and video to your setup regardless of your choice of phone.
Edit: I'd recommend checking out the Crutchfield page for more info and reviews.
AllCast is supposed to stream files to your Apple TV
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
As for AirPlay mirroring, there's no solution yet. I'm told it's a pretty closed API, haven't seen devs even trying.
Clockworkmod have a great app for this called AllCast but I'm honestly unsure if it will work on your R-Box. It's worth a shot but you need to get the AllCast receiver on your box.
Use an app like AllCast.
That being said, this isn't a CyanogenMod issue. Please refrain from posting non-CyanogenMod issues to this sub-reddit.
As everyone else has said, Chromecast requires an internet connection.
I tend to go off-grid fairly often and usually have crappy-to-none internet (hotspot), so a Chromecast was a bit frustrating. For screen mirroring without an internet connection, I use Miracast/WiDi. There are lots of crappy adapters out there, but the best (and least-laggy) I've found is the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter.
Although KK and MM support Miracast on a lot of phones, some don't (and some manufacturers have hidden/disabled it). Root + AllCast solves most problems.
Oh - you've got to do the initial setup on a Windows machine (probably Widows 10; definitely with an Intel chipset that supports WiDi). After that, the adapter is good to go with just an Android phone wherever you travel.
There is no way you can live stream from your android tablet w/o a computer. You need a computer to stream ...
So basically the process is like that: Android -> Stream the screen to your PC -> Stream that to Picarto.
So ... how'd you stream from your android tablet to your pc? ...
Just install both ... connect to the same Network and open both apps ... select the computer and there you go ... stream the program then over to picarto and have fun.
I have no way to back up my thoughts but I have thought that network "noise" is the main issue. There is, at times, up to a dozen wireless routers and/or wireless printers around me. It isn't just the Roku app either because my AllCast app stopped connecting too.
Another paid app option is Allcast;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast.license
Originally designed to send media to a Chromecast, there is also a receiver for Chrome on your PC that allows you to playback audio, video & pictures.
I don't think AllCast needs root. Pretty sure you have to pay for more than a few seconds of streaming or something. I just have premium, kind of forget what basic does.
Though not officially supported by Apple, there are Android apps that support streaming to Apple TV. You can try something like AllCast.
On android I use terrariumtv with allcast for Chromecast support.
What are you trying to Cast? If it's a video you can try AllCast.
I think a lot of users go with AllCast, LocalCast, or BubbleUPnP for casting content stored locally on their mobile devices.
I like to use Allcast. It's a really light UI compared to Bubble UPnP, but both do the same thing.
I believe AllCast free should do the trick. There is also a premium version without adverts.
edit - looks like they havent been updated in some time - not sure if they are abandoned. BubbleUPNP may also be an option.
Yep, try Allcast
Both should still be doable.
I use AllCast. Select "open with..." After you pick your show/movie.
You can cast it from Android with AllCast.
AllCast should work
For local movies/pics/music? If so, try AllCast by Koush. Free trial + premium purchase
I'd go with allcast..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
Use a casting app, when i had my 6p i used allcast.
Link me: allcast
Edit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
I'm not sure if it would work natively, but you could try AllCast
Without a Chromecast, I believe you need an app called "All Cast".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
Can we stream to HomePod from Android devices with AirPlay apps like AllCast?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast&hl=en
AllCast By Koushik Dutta (ClockworkMod / Original CyanogenMod)
You need a casting app. I'll suggest https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
Whats app are you using to cast? I recommend Allcast. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
I use all cast
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
Also, I use showbox
You just need a streaming app like Smartglass, or AllCast, iMediashare, AirSync or Media Player for Xbox and so on. And be connected to the same network.
No alternative to imessage.
This may work with Apple tv
Try AllCast?
Windows 7 is going to end support in the next year so it's really about time you moved on.
https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/197699/windows-7-enters-its-final-year-of-support
As for casting a video from Win 7 if you can find a video extension that can cast the video through DLNA then maybe it could work.
Try something like Allcast installed into Chrome

Not setting up the phone, but setting it up to work together with other things. That often requires downloading apps which don't always work as expected.
For example, allcast is supposed to be able to share your phone screen but I could never find any way how to. There's also other apps like mirror which outright don't work half of the time (can't find anything to cast to) and when it does work, I get around 1 frame per 5 seconds. None of the USB options I've tried perform any better either.
Meanwhile, sharing an iPhone screen to your iMac or Apple TV doesn't require any apps or setup. It simply works, with minimal delay (less than half a second) and decent FPS.
