I use irlTV. It integrates with Live Channels so everything shows up in the native guide and all the built-in features like pvr, language selection, etc. work. Dev is super responsive.

Checkout TVirl Which allows you to add your IPTV provider's M3U and EPG links into Android TV's native Live Channels app.
I use it with Pluto TV and I also have an IPTV subscription that I watch with Live Channels. I generate an m3u via a script and use that m3u with TVirl.
it's the same store just the app is only for Android TV. you could get the apk but it wouldn't make much sense as it integrates with Live Channels which is only on Android TV
PS. we ARE on the Android TV sub, didn't think I need to make that distinction here

Going through a similar thing, I don't have an answer for you but I have been messing around with an edited list to cut down the channels to ones actually wanted, and also able to edited remotely.
So far have tried both
and
End point is currently an androidTV box ( Xiaomi Mi Box )
So far tried TVIRL ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=by.stari4ek.tvirl )with Live Channels - easy interface but no grouping of channels.
Smarters (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nst.iptvsmarterstvbox) - works pretty good, can add multiple accounts or services.
Perfect Player (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niklabs.pp) Not quite as intuitive to use but otherwise works well.
Currently looking into running a tvheadend server, or via plex / emby on remote server but this gets a bit more complicated.
Helix have their own app preconfigured for smarters too. ( http://helixhosting.ninja/app/Helixhostingapp.apk)
Hope that's actually helpful and not just more confusing.
With TVirl you can use your normal TV interface (and remote!!)

I have the same question, but for the Netflix button..
Live TV button is awesome, if you connect it to a decent M3U list
(use TVirl and Fluxus, for example)..
