Nice that it's compatible with my ShieldTV. Bad that it isn't compatible with my Pixel 2 XL anymore apparently.
If there ever was a reason to learn how to play the piano it's Chrono Trigger's soundtrack. "Corridors of Time" and "At the End of Time" are two of my most loved video game soundtracks.
Also it has like ten endings that all feel different and it's a goddamn SNES game!
If you haven't played it yet get yourself ~~an SNES emulator on your smart phone and download the rom.~~ You won't be disappointed. Edit: Actually get the licensed version for Android here!
Not compatible with my LG V20 on Nougat either. Or my tablet on Marshmallow.
Also, True fixed link (that doesn't try to install):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
Edit: They fixed it! compatible with all my devices now. US$10 though...
I'd just play the original SNES version unless the bonus dungeons and updated translation are important to you, in which case just play the NDS version.
There is an Android port but it requires network connection and flakes out if you don't have one, so no playing on commute or anything. Dumb.
The PSX version is probably the "worst" one due to load times, but with emulation the load time is also minimal, so not a big deal. You can't really go wrong with any version.
It's on Android too:

I'm just glad that Square has finally lowered the price on their legacy ports (which I heard are poorly done even).
I recall looking up those nostalgia titles and being shocked at the $20-$25 price tags.
Late to the party but it has a mobile version on Google Play. This is probably the most convenient way to play it if you don't have a DS.
I thought that would be the case for all older games too, with the nostalgia being the main demeeming factor. However, having goen back to replay games like Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire 3 I totally think some older JRPGs really do have a fantastic story and great dialogue.
I have never played Legend of Dragoon, and would love to hear how you feel about it once you are a bit further through your replay. Would you recommend getting it for someone who has never heard of it, but who likes JRPGs?
There's only one Chrono Trigger, the sequel is Chrono Cross and it's kind of a hot mess, if a very aesthetically pleasing one. Inbetween there was a text adventure only released through a Japanese SNES satellite internet service called Radical Dreamers, which ended up providing the skeleton of Chrono Cross' plot.
Anyway, just start with Chrono Trigger and then tackle 'Cross if you feel like it.
iOS and Play for the modern generation. There are two button mashing games and a chase the rat section which are difficult on a touch screen, however 99% of game works well on a touch device and it's worth playing though for the story and the music.
It's also easy to pick up a free SNES emulator and roms on the internet somewhere if you're cheap.
There are ROMs of it everywhere, but it never made its way to the Nintendo e-Shop. There is a DS version readily available, and there's also an Android version available.
Well if you like 2D games, FF6 is very good
For 3D, FF9 is very amazing but FF7's story is better but graphics are a bit worse
FF4 is good for 2D, bit FF6 is quite a lot better story-wise
FF Dimensions is a spin-off made out of the graphics from FF4, it's not seen as a classic
I've personally played thru FF4 twice, FF6 twice, FF7 three times, FF9 twice. All 4 are amazing in their own rights.
If I had to at just one tho, it would be FF7. The story is just so good, the materia and summon mechanics are so fun, chocobo breeding and racing is also amazing.
Btw, Chrono Trigger is also regarded as one of the top tier 2D jrpg https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
Apart from the amazing recommendations, I also highly recommend Chrono Trigger and The World Ends with you
Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IX. Classic JRPGs and you definitely wont run out of content before the flight ends.
Holy crap it actually is! I didn't even know Square Enix licensed it on Android... Taking everything back then, everybody should definitely get it for those $10!
This one is not on steam, but im guessing you'll be taking a phone with you. Just learned that chrono trigger is out for Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
There is a half off sale every year from about Christmas to a little past New Years that unfortunately just ended. Chrono Trigger is still $4.99, which is an excellent Square Enix game! I haven't had a chance to try out the Android port yet.
EDIT: Maybe skip this port until it is improved. Thanks to the other poster for the warning.

I've seen pretty consistent issues with receiving calls while playing and losing data, and issues with the games not launching if you're on a newer version of Android.
It's also on sale for mobile: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
I have been playing Chrono Trigger and EvoCreo for some time. Chrono Trigger is ported game from other console and it's jrp.
EvoCreo it's monster catching rpg. I think it started as pokemon fan game or dev got inspired by pokemon. In that game monster are called creo and you can't have battle with all creo on water or on lava, or in air e.t.c. Only that element creo can battle on those place. However flying (but not all flyling creo) creo might be able fight on water and lava. Also there is player level with which you earn skill points and which you can spend on skills.
linkme: Chrono Trigger, EvoCreo.
Edit: It seems that bot is having holidays than I will linking my self - Chrono Trigger, EvoCreo and it have little version.
Here's the Google Play link, it looks like this is a permanent markdown and not a sale. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
Or you could take it to work with you and take long poop breaks.

you mentioned the games:
Chrono Trigger is a role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. Chrono Trigger's development team included three designers that Square dubbed the "Dream Team": Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Square's Final Fantasy series; Yuji Horii, a freelance designer and creator of Enix's popular Dragon Quest series; and Akira Toriyama, a manga artist famed for his work with Dragon Quest and Dragon Ball. Kazuhiko Aoki produced the game, M... continue reading on RAWG

Titan quest that is if you can handle the controls.
Out of all these my favorites are X-com , soul Knight and the baldurs gate series. I highly recommend you to play soul knight , it's f2p and it's pretty good.
For phone I recommend controller. I bought this, and it's small and nice. But your phone can emulate so much more. It can play PSP, PS1, PS2 and other. So I'm planning to buy this bad boy next. But if you have a controller, you could always buy a micro usb -> female usb, and stick your regular PS or Xbox controller behind your phone.
I finished Chrono Trigger with my tablet. There's a great version for androids that's only 12 dollars. You can play the whole game with one finger. It doesn't have the save states or graphic options as emulatords do though.
There is a native Android version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono&hl=en
The phone version of the game is pretty legit.

Holy smokes! I had no idea! Thanks!
Here are some I've tested and enjoyed:
I mean, there's an android port of it. I'm not 100% sure how good it is, but it's $5.

> for those who don't like the rankings, don't blame me, I just collected the data, which is what it is.
Uh.. that's not entirely true though. You collected the data, but you also chose to use "a formula to weigh a game's Total Ratings and Average Rating in an attempt to accurately represent which games are most popular today".
Then you bunched ratings and total vote counts from arguably different sites with likely different demographics into one set of data.
I think we could argue "How Long to Beat" is often used by people that favor RPGs to determine how long a speed run is, average, and completionist times. If my assumption is right, that would increase the number of "votes" each RPG game has and could be why there are 6 in the top 15.
There are other factors. People that grew up in English-speaking countries were able to play most of these games at release. I would say they are much less likely to go and rate these games online on an emulation site years later. On the flip side, people in countries that never had access to the original release can now play them. This means games with little or no necessary English would be more popular amongst non-English players. The few most popular games would also have translation patches (Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, FFVI, Super Mario RPG). Games without patches and a lot of necessary English would have fewer downloads. It could explain why so many platformers and racing games have more downloads/ratings.
It appears you put a very heavy weight on the number of votes each game receives. I am curious how you determined post/upload time for games on EmuParadise. Chrono Trigger for instance has comments from 10 years ago, so you know it has been online a while to get the ~4,400 votes. TMNT Turtles in Time has like 1,300 votes, but the oldest comment is only 5 years old. I have no way to know if any of the data was reset at a specific time and if all games were available for the same length of time.
Also, do you take into account the Chrono Trigger, which is arguably a SNES game, has releases on PC, mobile, DS, and Playstation? There are plenty of other platforms users could have played on and voted for. Google Play store has 15,635 votes. Another 4,259 on Steam. If you don't count those votes, how do you account for a lower player count of the original version since legal options exist to play it on modern systems?
tl;dr In short, I would say you had a very heavy hand in determining ranks by choosing your sources and either accounting or not accounting for a lot of other variables that impact vote counts.

If you don't use emulation at all, this is pretty good:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
Or you just play Chrono Trigger because it's on the app store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.square_enix.android_googleplay.chrono
The title can't be changed, but you could ask the mods to put a correction in the flair.
You can also edit the text, at least. Add a note that the sale is global, and perhaps add links as well:
Thanks for posting the news to the subreddit. It's a good reminder to check out the classics.
Chrono Trigger does on Google Play.

May not be exactly the playing experience you were expecting... or it may be way more convenient for you. I dunno, but it's there.
(there's an ios and even a windows version too)
By ATB I assume you mean Active Time Bar(or Battle), then I'd recommend Chrono Trigger, as they just updated it.
Part of the OST might help you decide. https://youtu.be/NotILKfI-5o
