I don't even do that anymore, I use Pushbullet. I have the app installed on my OnePlus 3T, iPad2 and the Chrome extension on my laptop and PC at work.

Pushbullet. Instantly sending files and links between my phone and computer has changed how I use both.
It gives you a share target, where any time you can share to another android app, you can send whatever you're sharing to your computer or other phone/tablet instead. And it works the other way too, with browser plugins and a desktop app that send files to your phone instantly. Unlike other sharing options, it's instant and it just gives you the file/link/picture whatever, no hassle.

Depends what you use or what you're looking for. In general, you'll find most third party apps are better than their stock or first party/official counterparts. I don't know what you usually use on your phone, but here's what I have.

I also use Pushbullet a lot to send links and files to other devices, mirror notifications to my desktop and shared clipboard. You can also add more quick settings tiles, Tiles is an example that offers a plethora of settings, but it's paid iirc. There should be many more free alternatives on the Play Store.

I haven't tried the other ROMs but what I gather, Dmitry is pure AOSP, Frank is almost 'stock' with various updates and fixes since Dmitry posted his initial release (Doze enabled, for example), MinimalOS is custom but with very minimal set of features (hence the name), and Cataclysm is a full featured custom ROM based on the N5 factory image (Google apps included, Dialer, Contacts, Backup, Webview, DRM and other Google shared libraries, sounds, animations, Doze, etc)
Google's OTA updates make changes to system, kernel, and perhaps userdata as well, but I'm not too familiar with the specifics.
Pushbullet has external notifications, you can subscribe to channels and get updates on various topics. I haven't actually used it myself, though.
Note 9 user here as well. I'm a long time android user, and I finally convinced my gf to make the switch recently. She got the S9+ and after getting used to it, she loves it. iMessage is the only thing that she misses.
Personally, I haven't used iMessage on a Mac but I do know that Pushbullet allows you to send messages from a PC (also transfer files between devices and such) and I'm sure that you can use it on a Mac as well. There's also AirDroid, which accomplishes the same thing.
Also, the Samsung ecosystem is pretty cool. I thought that Apple people were kind of over hyping having everything connected until I switched from OnePlus to Samsung. Samsung makes a lot of stuff, and having it all work together is incredibly convenient. My favorite is using my phone as a remote for my smart TV.
Edit: I just saw the other comments talking about Messages by Google. I totally forgot about that lol. That's probably the easiest solution.
Use Pushbullet. Comes as a Chrome extension and app and allows you to instantly send text snippets between any two devices for easy copy/paste. (With SMS as an option)
Have you tried Pushbullet? That seems to be the most common application for getting your phone notifications to show up elsewhere.
I've never used a 'HDMI stick' other than a Chromecast, so what I say may not even be useful, but the first two things that come into mind is trying PushBullet to send the YouTube link from your phone to the HDMI stick, and Cast Receiver, which turns many Android devices into a Chromecast receiver.
It has never worked for me. I use Pushbullet to do the same thing, works pretty well except that it splits up long messages into multiple short ones which can look weird on the receiving end.

You could use Pushbullet to send videos or websites to yourself/ your device and then use Nap to set the reminder. You basically snooze your notification.
Pushbullet is what I have always used. Very useful to transfer the odd file here and there. Plus you can see messages, respond and SMS all from your PC. Great when you are in the office.

I have a recipe on ifttt that I use to send a pushbullet notification to my device of the daily C&H comic posted here on this sub.
It's very basic in the sense that it only does a keyword search for "Calvin and Hobbes" so you might get other posts that have "Calvin and Hobbes" in the title, but it's not too much if a bother to me.
It mirrors your phones notifications to your computer and if its a text message it even allows you to reply to them by clicking the notification.

Fitbit claims that this notification is required in order to keep receiving notifications from your device.
Funny that plenty of other apps are able to monitor notifications without displaying an annoying, persistent notification (like Pushbullet)
If that's what you're using, I would highly recommend Pushbullet as a better alternative for texting from your PC. I have been using it for a long time as a more full-featured OneNumber replacement.

I use PushBullet. It's not perfect, but it's worked better than the other apps I've tried. There are limitations on the free version, but it's never really been a problem for me.

In addition to being able to send yourself a link to all your linked devices, you can also access and send texts that are still sent from your phone. I have 2 example stories:
- left phone at sisters. Got on computer, texted her to call it. She found it and brought it to me (after being confused about how I texted her without my phone, she thought when she called it I would realize it was in my hand, lol)
-left phone at home. At work have 2 factor authentication that uses our phones, occasionally get randomly logged out so we have to log back in (it's once every few weeks). Don't have phone. Can't authenticate. Can't clock out to run home for 30 minutes. Sheepishly ask manager what to do. They talk to IT, who says they can unlock it but it's low priority and will be a while. Remember Pushbullet! Log into Pushbullet on coworkers computer, find 2 factor text. Log in to my computer, log out of Pushbullet on coworkers computer. Manager is impressed after explanation. go home during lunch to get my phone, just in case.

For complete copy of your phone screen to your pc, you can try to look into scrcpy. You might need to install adb (android debug bridge) and enable developer mode on your phone.

Yeah, RCS is cool but not widely implemented. Maybe one day RCS will come to 3rd party messaging clients. But I don't really need RCS, and it is definitely not worth using Google Message just for RCS.

PushBullet I'm on my computer a lot with my browser open and I just find PushBullet sooo useful in terms of sending notifications to my PC (bank text verifications, Steam, whatsapp notificaitons) or vice-versa without me having to grab my phone.

For me right now PC to Phone works pretty well. Phone to PC is kinda slow at the moment or not really working. That might just be me though. (Using OnePlus 6t Android 10 & Brave Browser)

One of the functionalities is where you can subscribe to an APK Mirror channel through Pushbullet. This subscription button is on the APK Mirror page of the app, right next to the RSS channel logo (looks like a bullet).

FYI - While inferior to Join, there is also Pushbullet. If you're only using one of these apps to mirror notifications for this Etsy app, you might not need the Pro version of Pushbullet. There is a free version that allows for basic notifications. While Join is superior, there's a one-time cost to the app.
It's free for basic usage. You only get 100 texts per month but honestly I don't use it enough to need the paid unlimited service. I usually have my phone with me at my desk but if it's a longer message I'll just type it out. Push Bullet. r/Android loved it and then hated it when the devs instituted an expensive monthly fee, but the free version is still really useful for people with lower requirements.

Manually. But you can get Pushbullet, then you can click on the "Follow Pokemon GO App Updates" on the side and you'll be notified every time a new Pokemon GO APK is released. That way you don't have to keep checking for new updates on your on or waiting for someone to post it to the sub :)
As far as I know you need to use Hangouts to do this as /u/catfoodluvr suggested. Personally I hate Hangouts and highly recommend using ~~Pushbullet~~ Join instead.

Pushbullet has a widget and can be set up to receive RSS feeds amongst other things. It's a bit fiddly to set up the RSS in it though; I doubt it would be quite what you're looking for
Exchange is the stock email (not gmail) that comes with your phone. If you use it you need to set it to not receive emails instantly because your phone is constantly checking for new emails and drains your battery.

Push, as in send individual things to the PC (or another device) immediately via the share action?
The original is <strong>Pushbullet</strong>/<strong>Portal</strong>, but many here took issue when they started charging $5/mo for large file transfers, unlimited SMS/WhatsApp/Kik replys from the PC, notification actions on the PC, and universal copy/paste. However, basic stuff like pushing links and files smaller than 25MB work just fine for free, and this might be exactly what you're looking for.
The current sub favorite is <strong>Join</strong> (IAP of $4.99 with a 30 day free trial) for basically acting like a more feature-rich clone of Pushbullet, but with a one-time charge instead of a subscription.
However, if you mean Push as in manage LOTS of photos & files at once, then I'd suggest a proper file manager like the free <strong>Amaze File Manager</strong> or paid <strong>Solid Explorer</strong> (with its <strong>FTP plugin</strong>) instead. These let you start an FTP (or other) connection for browsing your phone's contents from the PC without plugging in pesky cables.

Pushbullet. It syncs your notifications and texts to your PC so you don't even have to use your phone while you're on your computer. It also lets you push links and files back and forth really easily. It's the one app I can't live without now.
Reddit Sync. It's my favourite reddit app, but do try the alternatives as well, they're all quite good and its up to preference.
MX Player. Plays all video files, including 1080p anime with subtitles (if your phone can handle it)

The only thing I can think to do is reseat all the screen connections. I tried searching around and someone had a similar problem here, there are a few suggestions but not really any resolution. Mentioned though is a possible proximity sensor problem but in your case it seems unlikely. It might be something to keep in mind though when you're reassembling your phone. There's a thread here which describes the proximity sensor problem & reassembly with a resolution on page 2.
If you're still able to interact with the screen then at least taking calls should be possible. If you are somehow able to download Pushbullet (maybe through a method described here) or through a screen sharing method described here, you'd be able to send/receive texts from your computer. It's difficult and not practical but throwing it out there.
At the very least, ask on Kijiji/Craigslist if anyone can spare an old phone. If you have $30-60 dollars it is possible to get a very capable used phone like a Galaxy S3 on there. Make sure to check if it works first. Checking a thrift store might not be a bad idea either. I bought a Nokia C3 for $5 to use temporarily, at least the battery life on it was better than the N4.

Personally, I use a combination of the Pushbullet app + the Sync for Reddit app.
The Sync for Reddit app sends me a notification on my phone when new mail has been received, and then Pushbullet sends a notification to all the devices I have it configured for.
For example, when I get Reddit mail, I get a notification on my phone, my main PC, and my HTPC.
I never use my browser for notifications since I'm not always at my browser. My phone is much more reliable and convenient for notifications since it's on and monitoring 24/7.
Pushbullet is another option.

I actually do this, but the approach is 'complicated' for just this task. I use this setup to automate other aspects, but I will share this here anyways, in case you don't mind the work.
- I use PushBullet (free) to mirror all my notifications to a Windows PC.
- On this PC, I run a copy of EventGhost (free), which allows you to automate all aspects of a PC.
- I use the PushBullet for EventGhost plugin (free) to listen to these PushBullet messages.
- I use the Sell on Etsy app for Android to generate a notification when a sale happens. PushBullet will copy this notification to my PC, and the plugin for EventGhost responds to it by executing certain tasks (in this case, a web request, which announces the sale via my home automation software).
It sounds complicated, but it really isn't, and I use this approach for many other tasks.
The PushBullet channel for IFTTT doesn't support triggers, if it did, you would only need the PushBullet app installed (IFTTT or PushBullet team, if you are watching, please add a trigger!). Maybe you can use the IFTTT app (which has been unreliable for me), or the Zapier service, which has support for some channels IFTTT doesn't.
Also consider looking at Tasker+AutoRemote.

I have never paid for these apps, just use the free version. I do believe there is a limit of 25mb per file for the free account. I send myself files, photos and weblinks between devices. Have been using it for years and it is one of the first apps I install on a new device.

I've used Pushbullet to sync SMS. If each device has its own SIM I can send messages using either phone whilst carrying just one, as long as both are connected to the Internet. If a single SIM is swapped between the two, I can at least see the messages from the other phone.
I'm not sure if PushBullet will allow him to send an MMS. I've never used PB, but their app page on the Play Store mentions nothing of MMS, which is what OP is trying to send, not a text (SMS).

How did nobody include Pushbullet? Such a great app for moving things between multiple devices. It's really nice that I can just push a YouTube link from my phone to my computer and it keeps playing.
