Not quite.
Its actually a Final Fantasy themed version of Brave Frontier.
It's even made by the same guys at Gumi (working with Square Enix). Hell they even had a crossover promo at one point where you could get Rain and Lasswell, the main heroes of FFBE, in Brave Frontier and a bunch of Brave Frontier guys in FFBE.
Now if you want a game that is as close to a classic Final Fantasy RPG as mobile can get I have three words for you: Final Fantasy Dimensions because it actually is a mobile game in the same vein as classic Final Fantasy games.
Personally I think it's supposed to be a parody of a splash screen from those one in a million fantasy-based anime gacha mobile games . The choice in layout, style and fonts is exactly what you'd see in one of those types of games (see the style with a game like Brave Frontier or Brave Exvius)
Come to think of it, this would've been better for April Fools splash screen than for their anniversary. lol
Brave Frontier and Terra Battle - awesome pokemon/FF-like anime RPGs (i.e. They have element weakness, monster collection and anime tropes). One is about party buffs and balancing your squad for fighting super tough enemies and has TONNS of content, the other is a bit newer, darker and about positioning and flanking enemies.
it's a mobile game that popular in global. here's the gapps site https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sg.gumi.bravefrontier&hl=en
it has gacha feature for units and micro management squad. while CQ uses 3 units, BF takes 5 units and 1 friend. you can assign 1 unit as a leader to use his/her leader skill and pick one friend again to add their leader skill. recently it has Level up Campaign event. if you want to start playing, i can assure you this is the right time :D
I feel like randomly guessing Brave Frontier since I have memories of it starting in a corn field or so too, but really, there are hundreds of games that fit 'mobile turn-based fantasy RPG'...

try out this game, im pretty sure its quite like summoners war i had it ages ago, but then again that was a few years ago i might be remembering wrong lol, still give it a shot if ur intrested
I was playing Brave Frontier for a while and it has a similar mechanic. Been absolutely addicted to Crusaders Quest as well.
Above is the European version. This is the global version (mostly catering to US though):

"Best" is subjective but I can recommend a few with active communities.
Brave Frontier- Tons of characters, gameplay is a bit grindy. Community is pretty active and the game is still frequently being updated with more stuff. Art style is great in my opinion, but they are not generous with premium currency so you'll have to pay if you really want to collect.
Summoner's War- Again very active community, very grindy. Good amount of free premium currency, but the draw rates seem to be terrible, at least I never got anything really good when I was playing for a few months.
Chain Chronicle- Great tower defense-lite gameplay, the rest of the game is a gacha. Actually has a pretty good story for a gacha rpg, reminds me of old classic RPGs. You can drown yourself in the free premium currency, enough comes your way from events and side missions that you can get pretty much everything eventually for free (though of course it is faster to pay).
Million Arthur- Just launched in English, so there are still some issues to be hammered out. Gameplay is typical card collector, similar to Rage of Bahamut or its hundreds of clones, so if you're looking for minimal gameplay and just collecting this is a good option. Lots to collect, and the community is active since it just released.
Dragon Blaze- Classic RPG gameplay, but super grindy. Decently generous with premium currency, you could play this for free. Art style like Odin Sphere if you ever played that PS2 game.
Soccer Spirits- My personal favorite. Best gameplay of the bunch, they actually turned soccer into a pretty believable card rpg. As generous with premium currency as Chain Chronicle is, easy to get and ways to get it long term so you'll always be able to get things with time instead of money. This is the only game in the bunch that I feel is truly fair to free players, since you can get everything the paid players get just slower. Draw rates are a little wonky right now, but it also has a Scout system that lets you acquire players with pseudo-premium currency earned through PvP matches, so you have a pretty good chance of being able to get a player you want even if you don't get them in draws. Also great music and UI, probably the easiest to use of the entire list.
Here is my suggestion post that I copy-paste for this type of thread :)
You won't see any more gacha in this list, except for this one. I've been playing Brave Frontier for over 5 years, non-stop, evey day, to the point where I consider the game "beat", even if there is still some new content and it's still "going". I only login once every couple of months when my Guild needs my sword for the raid. One of the stand-out features of the game is, eventually, you're allowed to make Your Own Character (it's not as busted as it sounds, but super cool). I heard that it has pretty decent drop rates among the gacha genre, I love the art-style and gameplay... And also the reason why I'm completely burned out on gacha games.
Discovered thanks to TotalBiscuit (rip) - Meteorfall is a fun deck building game, in which I burned a lot of time and don't regret a minute. It's fun, rewarding, has pretty good replay-ability, and an art style that reminds me of Adventure Time, which I appreciate. It also has a much beefier sequel with a different gameplay - Krumit's Tale which I've been playing since release. Both games don't require too much to time unlock everything, they are easy to learn really hard to master and have a hundreds of hours of gameplay if you wanna master them. Krumit's Tale also has a PC version.
Found this one thanks to this subreddit - Night of the Full Moon is a more complex and expensive Meteorfall, with slightly more content. The in-game art is kinda "meh", but the cover and lore art is top tier. One of the card games that gives you the tools and the reason to bend it over backwards and break it. Love it.
Alter Ego. Not for everyone, and requires a specific mood, but man is it enjoyable. I can't give any comparisons to the story, because that will spoil the game right away, but if you're feeling a bit... sad-ish and like psychological tests I highly recommend. The game is a idle tapper, like a cookie clicker, but it has anime art, amazing music, multiple endings and a proper, unique, post-game. LOVE IT. Please buy, support and play Alter Ego. She deserves it.
Discovered thanks to TotalBiscuit (rip) - Reigns|Her Majesty|GoT - I haven't played the Game of Thrones version, but I love this series. It's a "choose your own adventure"/"meter management" game... And there is something weird about it. The ending is fucking cryptic and almost meta and I burned waaay too much time on this game.
Knights of the Pen and Paper - I only played the second one so far, I heard that the first one is better, but it's fun. Turn based RPG, with a humorous meta-kinda story. It's nothing special, but if you want a fun, grindy game for a couple of weeks - I enjoyed it.
Dungeon Faster - interesting kinda minesweeper mixed with deckbuilding kinda game. Rouge-lite too. I do find it super grindy unless you buy a full version, but it's fun.
Other special mentions - not my "favorite" but I remember enjoying:
Cultist Simulator - a port of the PC game. Plays better on the phone.
Sonic Forces and SEGA Heroes (RIP) - you know the reason. Also Forces has more support and love then the game it's based on (or any recent Sonic game).
Terra Battle (RIP) - I forgot why I dropped it or where I found it... But I love the art and the gameplay was cool.
Dungeon Defenders - I have no idea why, but I like the number go up and I played this game for multiple weeks.
Elemental TD - A fun distraction.
Note 1: I found this very cool post listing deck building games, similar to Slay The Spire. A couple cool suggestions there.
Note 2: I also remembered, that ePSXe is on android! With some setup you can play PS1 games! I finished Front Mission 3 by paying it on my phone during bus rides and transferring my save to PC when I'm home.

There is a couple more, but these are my favorites ones! I hope you find something you like :)
Can't log in because I need the newest app, but the one Here is not updated (last update 12/12)... What to do?
Brave Frontier is, in my opinion, the best mobile game out there. Its outrageously in depth, and has a fuck load of content.
First of all, to describe the game, you build a squad of units and fight monsters and stuff with them. Not only is there a fuck ton of missions in the main story, there is a myriad of other stuff to do in the game. PvP, team raids, long quests, tough challenges, tournaments, and the list goes on. Believe me when I say there is almost too much shit to do in this game. Ive been playing for about 3 years pretty regularly, and Im still not even close to being through all the content.
Secondly the units themselves are fucking sweet. I mean look at this dude right here. Pretty sweet. If you choose to, you can evolve him into eventually this badass. Each unit has its own pretty portrait like those ones, as well as a pixel art attack animation. Both visuals are usually pretty sweet. Even if you dont wanna get super in depth to the meta of the game, you can just chill out collecting and evolving units. All together theres like a thousand or so I think. Each and everyone one is cool in its own regard.
As for a couple downsides, there is a lot of information up front, and I could see it being rather intimidating. Its also F2P, with purchasable gems, that you use primarily to summon new units. I could see this being a turn off for some, but the free gems come very often for new players, and it will be a while before you ever really feel constricted by the system. There is also an energy system that prevents you from beating the whole game in a day, but again, it would be a little while before you would really feel constrained by it.
Besides those few slight drawbacks, Brave frontier is a model of what mobile games should be. I would definitely recommend at least checking it out.
ohh, someone was posting about this same issue earlier last week I think. It's not the installation that's the problem; even if you install a different version, it will still break. The issue was some corrupted quest item.
There's an in-game fix where you can restart to the main menu. You need to do something while the game is first loading. It didn't apply to me, so I didn't read the whole PSA carefully.
I'd suggest to search to see if that's applicable?
If you still want the apk, I'd suggest to use an apk-downloader, and get it directly from the Google play store via your PC, then transfer it to phone.
APK Downloader extension for Chrome
APK Downloader add-on for Firefox
You can also try switching your browser user agent to android and going to the store, it might let you download directly... haven't tried it before.
Something similar in style. I play Brave Frontier
Uh, here?
Could it be Brave Frontier? Sorry, on mobile.

The first gacha I played was I believe the first mobile game I really got into. It was Brave Frontier. I began some time before (BF Best Girl) Michelle's batch, it's the earliest banner I can vividly remember being new. I was on and off for it because I've lost my account due to not binding it and ended up losing my main facebook account due to what I'm pretty sure was the fault of a virus from a questionable website (It's too low of a level to reset so it's gone to the ether). I still play it today with my current account (started with Ellie the Fire Unit was new) I'm farther than I've ever been before. I'll return to my old account if they ever decide to buff Nyami and/or Ilm. Still need to learn to complete the story though...
I am pretty sure the next one would be Puzzles and Dragons. I enjoyed it, the puzzles made it unique compared to the average game I'd play, and collecting characters or units is really enjoyable to me, which tells why I like gachas so much.
Though this occurs later, but I'll mention it now due to relevance. I also bought the P&DZ+P&D Super Mario Bros. Edition. This might be technically my first and only Gacha purchase, but it wasn't an in-app purchase so I guess I am still free2play.
All the following were got into in a non-chronological order.
Chain Chronicles was enjoyable. I played it's japanese version until I decided to switch to the glabal version. I believe I played it before it ('s global version) shut down. I find that to be a mighty shame.
One of the ones I rather enjoyed much was Monster Squad. Man, this one was just adorable and awesome to me. It was simple but had a myriad of colorful and cool monsters and simplicity never bothers me. I loved my monsters and was really unhappy that it shut down.
Next, I'll mention Bravely Archive. Woah, this got a english release? cool. I played this game on JP and enjoyed it. A mobile game for a series I really wanted but never got to play? sign me up! It was cool, though the characters, while nice looking, weren't the most memorable to me like the Monster Squad monsters were. Enjoyable, I might go back to it in its new global version.
I don't know if I ever started playing FFBE on jp before the global release, but I was definitely here day one. The problem is that I went off from it some time early on, I don't know why or when, but I lost my Magiteck Armor Terra, or at least whatever account I connected her to (it really sucks because if the accounts never reset, it leaves only one possible FB account left and I forgot the email address to it. If they were reset, I got to the account afterwards). Any way, I came back some time before Oldmandeu (again, vague, but it's my earliest confirmed memory). Geeze, that was too long ago. I've been here ever since with (FFBE Best Girl) Olive by my side as my (and now I feel bad) first or second Rainbow along with Marie. I remember Chizuru helping me a lot to. Exdeath was a powerful mage I had so early one. And then (s)WoL(e) helped my take down Maxwell. Eventually Tilith (the ONLY BF character I got aside from Maxwell) replaced Refia bacause I was never able to farm the Dualcast. I feel I had a solid set up early on and had loads of fun.
And before I finish, Best boy King Giott was my first summon, and helped keep Rain and Lassy safe.
I tried out Mobius, but my phone was to old to handle it and it was to large. Wasn't my cuh puffed he. Not enough unique character collection.
Valkyrie Connect is fun to me. Characters are nice looking, cute, and/or cool. I just stopped, like most of the games I've played.
A game I played thanks to Ushi was Bloodline (SEA). Dang it! Could I have saved my account if I transfered it? Sad, what an unfortunate end to my team. I'll miss them. ~~I had a nude dance. She was really pretty.~~ It's a fun game I think. A simpler Brave Frontier in the standard gameplay with some differences outside of combat. It has everything I'd need to enjoy it. Still sad I lost my units but at least I can still play it.
Next is the standard FE Heroes. First form of FE I played ~~without using an emulator~~. It's fun. It's gacha. Got them issues I over look because of all the cool characters I get.
I tried Grandchase. It was nice. I stopped because the next one up needed more space...
Now Azur Lane! This game is probably the only gacha I feel like making a purchase, just to show my support to this game. I love the shipgirls, the art is always adorable and lovely. The skins are nice looking. The memes are nice. I wish I could download the voice files so I could here my shipgirls scream over each other in battle. It is just really nice though. The gameplay feels like it's only auto for a good while, I see peoples' critique there, but I feel I've gotten to the point where I can handle the hard mode for events where auto just ain't enough, and I loved it. All the girls are sweet and it's cool how they all have (mostly) unique personalties and all that. And then there's Kent..
Finally, that Tom fellow made me try out Girl x Battle (because my chromebook couldn't handle GxB2). It's kinda laughably bad, but not bad enough to be too laughable.
In conclusion, I doubt I got to all the games I've played. However, I have still played plenty because this is apparently a genre I enjoy, even though I don't give these game companies a single penny with exception to P&D because they released a fully fledged video game on a (mobile) console.
