You can hot swap gear between characters or your bank. Otherwise youd have to leave your current planet and change the character, travel to the "bank planet" put the item in the bank, change character again, travel to bank planet and retrieve item.

LFG sites all suck. The official Destiny 2 companion app made by Bungie has a tab of realtime LFG posts and it's a good time, especially now as people are straining to finish all the content before it Vaults.

Download the D2 companion app from Google Play and go to "Fireteams". Post what you want and the number of people you need.
Have you installed the D2 companion application on your smart phone? It is free from Google Play and allows you to look for others via the LFG (labeled "Fireteams" on the app). You can create a post requesting how many you need, what platform, and even if you desire them to have mic's.

You could also try the destiny companion app. Above is the google play store link for it if you don't have it and are on android. I believe it's on iOS too. That app lets you move gear between your vault and other characters, check on vendors, chat with your clan (if they have the app too), and look for fire teams for whatever activity you're trying to do.

Other than that, did the VPN ( trials available ) / Tether on 'one' computer work?
A temporary tether to a mobile device ( 3G / 4G / etc ) OR temporarily trying a gaming friendly VPN service may help determine if the issue is router or ISP related.

I'm not seeing unlockable content through the companion app though. Is that a feature not listed in the description or is it just for social functions and checking on gear?

With TTK bungie added alot of hidden/timelocked stuff. People found it mostly by accident. Depending on what exactly it is you are looking for there is a guide in this sub that gives step by step instructions.

Santa Clause. Save your stange coins for him. He will appear every Friday AM to Sunday AM at random locations in tower/reef. He sells good gear for strange coins. There will be a thread in this sub on the front page on Friday telling exactly where he is that week.

You find dead ghosts that unlock more Lore in your grimoire.

Why is there DLC locked behind a Red Bull can?
Because Activision and Bungie like getting paid lots of money by third parties to restrict content (see PS version vs Xbox version).
EDIT: I should note that this content will unlock for everyone without a code on 1 JAN 2016 (I think).
Why should I collect raisins?
As far as I know people have not figured out what they do yet (if anything at all). Some say they are a joke from Bungie others think they will have a purpose if you save them.

On Android it's called "Destiny 2 Companion", then you go over to a tab on the bottom that says "Fireteams" and either find what you're looking for or make one yourself. It can be a bit clunky and, personally, it doesn't always work perfectly, in about 30% of the cases /join doesn't work because the app doesn't update fast enough to account for lobbies that fill fast etc., but with a bit of patience you can make it work.
When you click on the lobby leader, it shows you their SteamID (it's a number sequence like a credit card number) which you then punch into the game chat after typing /join and then the game will try to get you into the fireteam. As I said, it works about 70% of the time which is fine for me personally.
