I can't say anything about the app itself, but it usually sells for about 4000¥, seems like there is a 50% off campaign going on. There's also an android version available for those interested. Would love to hear some reviews before buying it, though.
I'm pretty happy with 研究社 新英和(第7版)・和英(第5版)中辞典. I like the definitions, the examples, and the font they use.
I also use an EDict dictionary sometimes for weird words that aren't in the other app.
Also, it helps to have Google's Japanese handwriting input installed.
> Can't you buy real dictionary apps
You can. Here's one, and that company sells a bunch of others too (all interconnected).
It's in Japanese play store, here. Anyone knows if it's possible to buy apps from there?
So, JED and jisho.org use the same dictionary data (the "Jim Breen" data), so those two won't give you much variety.
I don't have any recommendations for free Android dictionaries, but if you don't mind paying there are a bunch out there. I happen to use this one on Android, which I like. And I also use a Jim Breen-based dictionary.
I use this one most. (研究社 新英和(第7版)・和英(第5版)中辞典)
