Evolved from a single-celled organism
It was Summer of 2013.
I started the basic tutorial series in Kilobolt.com. It took me a few days just to setup Eclipse in my PC. Without any basic computer language, I followed Kilobolt’s instructions like a puppet. Copied pages of code and finally, successfully port the tutorial game on my Android phone.
I had never know that a game, as simple as it looks, is that complicated in its code form (WTH more than 10 pages!). I was shocked, as well as other fans of the website.
“You don’t need to understand every line. It’s just an engine. My part only cover a few lines.” the tutor added this so important comment a few weeks later and I realized that we all can use Facebook well without knowing Graph API.
I enjoyed much on increasing fire rate of the robot and change the enemies’ flying behaviour. But still it took me like 15 minutes each time to port to the phone just to debug the game in my phone where we have tens of debug each day.
The full time banking job occupied me most. My family shared only one PC at so I can only cook the code after mid night. It takes like 1.5 hours to get to office so I have some time to read tutorials on youtube and forums on bus. There’s not a minute to waste.
After months of struggling, I meet the great LibGDX, a free, open source, cross platform game engine.
