Go to the Play store and download Dripler. It gives you top rated apps to use free or paid. I have it and love it I have picked up a few apps here in there for me and from those apps has opened up my eyes to other apps that can do the job even better. I have over 200 apps installed on my phone lol

Third party Android apps websites are good way to get to know about recent launches. I used to use Drippler (which if you have not used is an aggregator of best android apps, games, tweaks etc) They also post Best new apps and games of the "week" articles . Which is kind of what you are asking for, but on weekly basis.
At end of those articles they asked to submit your app/game to get in next week's, which also gives an idea of how they get hold of new stuff
I find most of my apps through an app called Drippler.

While I've never used it, isn't that what this app is supposed to do? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.drippler.android.updates&hl=en. It covers more than games though.
