The only other app store I bother with is Amazon. That's mainly because I have a ton of apps on that store for free. The problem with Amazon store for Android the apps aren't always updated to latest version. Also firetube on Amazon store is an ok 3rd party youtube app for listening to songs from youtube. :)

Hey there, I'm the developer of Swipe for Facebook, and co-founder of Happening Studios. I hope I can answer some of your questions. :)

With a little bit of coding knowledge, I'd think so. A buddy of mine and I started learning coding at the exact same time around last year in May, and within the next ~2 months, we released our first app. Before that, we've already had a great app in mind, and so started coding that as an experiment. That never really went saw any traction, which is why we switched to doing the app that was to become our first released app and eventually got that done in 2-3 weeks. I'd say our first app was pretty incredible given the time we had. We basically had image sharing, comment posting, a fully working backend set up (Parse), user tracking, and user account management within the first release. '2 weeks' really depends on how much knowledge you already previously have in coding, but it is technically possible. I, for example, found it very easy to transition from web dev to Android as a lot of things just made sense to me. HTML/CSS was XML and PHP was Java. Of course, I already knew some JSON and MySQL, so there were things that transferred over easily. There was only getting used to new syntax, considering lifecycles, app structuring, app permissions, and memory management that I needed to figure out. On the other hand, my friend who had slightly less coding experience took longer to get a good feel for it. We ended up having to drink a SHIT TON of beer just to get through the initial frustrations, but believe me, the most difficult part is the initial 'not knowing'. Once you know the basics, it's fairly simple. So yeah, it depends on a lot of factors, but mainly experience and the scale of your first project. Also keep in mind, that I had like 3 days off a week from uni to get this done, so your mileage may vary.
Depends on how you price your app, how successful it'll be based on your idea, etc. One major push for us was actually to create 'corporate' apps that did not so much have to compete in the app market, but just deliver enough value to an already existing business by either increasing their sales, reducing costs by improving work efficiency, or help customer relation building. Before we even finished our first app, I managed to pitch my girlfriend's boss on an app that would easily make his business so much more by increasing repeat sales. He ran a chiropractic clinic and basically, I pitched him on an appointment booking app, allowing his recurring customers to more easily book appointments, get reminded for upcoming appointments, and be notified of new promotions. We also had an admin view that allowed their receptionists to accept/deny appointments. This was our first 'real' project and we had that done in 2 months. We got around $10,000 for the whole project and since we were just really doing the project part-time, we were pretty happy. Outside of that, I also made a couple of different apps, but they were free as I just wanted to build up a portfolio to show potential clients the work we've done. I released Apps - Play Store Link in January and today it almost has 150,000 downloads. I'm not monetizing it though. The real money actually only came once I released Swipe for Facebook around ~20 days ago, my very first real consumer app. There's a free and a pro version, and I have been highly pushing it here on Reddit (where 2/3 of all my sales come from), and just in those 25 days I've already made an average of about $300 a day. So I'd say it depends a lot on what kind of app you want to make, what the competition looks like, and how well you're able to market it. I made $10,000 for the majority of a year, and in the last month with Swipe for Facebook I've also made almost the same amount of money from Swipe.
From my experience, Swipe itself (and Apps as well) is a sort of simple idea just executed well. I have hundreds of competitors out there, but I can confidently safely say that Swipe is better in every single way – which is why it's growing very quickly, much quicker than I initially expected. ~20 days in, I'm at 70,000 downloads and that's far beyond my initial expectations (considering my biggest competitors Metal and Folio, have had the ballpark of 100,000-500,000 downloads only within the last year).
No. I honestly don't think so. For me to release my first app, I spent at least anywhere between 6-14 hours a day. Then again, it depends on the complexity of the app, as previously mentioned. We were working on databases and community sharing and stuff, so I honestly wouldn't have gotten that done doing 1 hour a day. Just watching tutorial videos / researching on Stack Overflow would have already taken 2-4 hours, plus the time me actually practicing what was being showed in those videos.

BONUS: I suggest you check out SlideNerd's series on YouTube. That's the best place to get started, I think. Definitely helped LOADS. And don't be afraid to Google for answers to complex questions, and use libraries for complex things you may want implemented.
