In the future we are looking at at least one fps mmo from MadFinger called ShadowGun Legends they also have some great 3rd person games.
There are also Dead Effect which is mind blowing my awesome.
So the genre is far from dead, devs just find it easier to crank out the same garbage most of the time.
There's this game called Bounty Hunter Black Dawn that's basically a super budget version of Borderlands. Might be worth a shot!

Bounty Hunter Black Dawn is a bit like Borderlands. Multiplayer Co-op lots of different weapon drops etc.
