If you're on Android, Bugko is pretty good. You get the titles of all the new articles in a notification so you can open it only if it interests you, etc.
Bugko for Android and Windows (not sure about iOS). It has card search, deck builder, judge tools like draft timers and rules references, news updates (basically a compilation of articles from popular sites) and even a trade tool that let's you compare prices on your trades. Remember to turn off notifications if you don't fancy getting a message every time there's a new article though.
If you are on Android or Windows Phone, give Bugko a try. IT might not exactly what you want, but it came with some unique features like aggregate all MTG news with notification (great during spoiler season), syntax search (for power user), support pricing from TCGPlayers.com and MagicCardMarket.eu.

The main reason why judge use app instead of Gatherer is because those app include offline database which make searching faster and no Internet required especially judging oversea event.
