Redmi 3S only has 2GB RAM with a 720p screen, it's not even in the same league as the Robin. Redmi 4 Pro is probably more comparable, but the downside is MIUI with Xiaomi's bloatware, and limited Google Apps support, whereas the Robin runs near-stock Android with and is fully compliant with the Google CTS, meaning which you can use Android Pay, Pokémon Go etc with no issues. Speaking of Android Pay, the Redmis don't even have an NFC so you can't use any form of mobile payment either. Finally, the Redmi 4 has a Mediatek CPU - which means very limited, if any, custom ROM availability, so you're stuck with MIUI. In contrast, Nextbit is very developer friendly - infact they've even partnered up with Paranoid Android to bring Nougat to the Robin (beta version already out). Meanwhile, there's no news of Nougat at all for the Redmis..
As for the camera, it's not much better than the Xiaomi, but it does support full Camera2 API, which means that you can capture RAW images, and use apps like Cortex Camera and Camera FV-5 to their full extent.
So yea, while the Xiaomis wins in terms of battery life and expandable storage, but for $149, the Nextbit is clearly a better choice if you're after an overall well-balanced, bloatware-free, smooth Android experience with great customer support and a very active developer community.
I think it is this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cortexcamera.cortexcamera_production
