I improved my sleep hygeine.
A solid bed time routine, I do the same steps in the same order every night.
A consistent bed and wake time.
Darkness.
The bed and bedroom are only for sleeping and fucking. I don't read, watch TV or anything but sleep and bang in there.
The final peace of my puzzle was mindful breathing and relaxation. I started with the Deep Sleep app and it helped me a lot.
I can usually knock myself out pretty quick now.
I've had insomnia literally as long as I can remember, mostly revolving around anxiety.
It's not white noise, but the app I use for this purpose is called Deep Sleep, with Andrew Johnson. It's a guided relaxation and then it's supposed to be a sort of hypnotism-type therapy where your brain processes the words while you sleep. I personally have not noticed the actual therapy being terribly helpful, but his lovely calming voice and Scottish accent are perfect soporifics for me, so I swear by this app.
And, most notably, you have the option to tell it to repeat however many times you'd like, and then it can either fade into silence, or gently wake you back up.
Oh, also! There's also an app just called White Noise, which has an "alarm" function which you can configure to just stop the white noise. Also, you can mix your own white noise "palettes" with different sounds, and set their volume, pitch, and tempo. There's also a marketplace where you can download user-made sounds, which has some excellent rain noises.
