Well, it has a pedometer built in, so it will count your hands movement and guess the steps, and also if many steps are taken it will guess you're running (that's all about speed, so probably I used the wrong word, it just determines walk or run or steady phases). I used this for map, it's using Google maps' notifications (like the pebble NavMe app) to send it to the watch device: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pacosal.sb.directions&hl=en The screenshots on the app's google playstore page are reflecting how it works. It eats battery much quicker of course, because of the many screen refreshes, so not as good as the pebble one related to battery life. Unfortunately the e-ink used by sony eats a lot more battery at changing the screen than monochrome e-ink uses on a pebble or the Vector watch
