Defining the "best" music player is to a large extent a matter of personal preference and taste since different people value different features. Similarly, people have strong opinions about what constitutes a good looking UI.
If you're looking for a well-rounded player with material design, you may want to try the brand new doubleTwist Pro. You can test flight some of the functionality as part of the beta: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.doubleTwist.androidPlayer I'm the co-founder and constantly on the lookout for feedback to further improve the app.
You may also want to take a look at doubleTwist Pro as we've already optimized it for S8's new screen aspect ratio.
I recommend you try the open beta before buying it.
We'll be adding this to doubleTwist Pro soon. It already supports Chromecast & AirPlay streaming and we'll be adding UPnP/DLNA in February. I'm the co-founder.
Another option would be BubbleUPnP, which is not a traditional music player per se, but perfectly capable of streaming to a UPnP device.
Yes, if you use the latest version of doubleTwist, you'll be able to sync and configure Google Now to launch doubleTwist as the default app for local music: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doubleTwist.androidPlayerPro
doubleTwist Pro will be going on sale tomorrow. The Pro version is designed for audiophiles but I'd first try the free version, which is perfectly good for the majority of users.
That's definitely not the correct price so something must be funky with your Play Store setup. Try getting doubleTwist Pro which is the paid version with all features unlocked and is also on sale this weekend.
Check out the recently revamped doubleTwist Pro. I'm the co-founder of the team behind the app and we're constantly updating it.
For driving, I definitely recommend an app with Android Auto support. You can then use Google's Android Auto app on your phone to control your music and benefit from its car-optimized UI.
doubleTwist Pro comes with built-in Android Auto support but I recommend you first try the free beta of the non-premium doubleTwist Player before you buy it.
Are you referring to a 5-star rating system? We support this in doubleTwist Pro. To show the ratings, just tap on the artwork in the Now Playing screen. I suggest you try the free app first before deciding to buy by joining the open beta.
I also want to point out that we're still missing some features, like gapless playback & custom smart playlists, which are scheduled for later this summer & fall.
The recently revamped doubleTwist Pro could be a good fit for you. If you're on Android 7, you could get the free version and give it a spin. It can handle both music & podcasts simultaneously and we're constantly improving it.
You may also want to try doubleTwist Pro, which was recently completely revamped and optimized for Nougat. I'm the co-founder :)
We're in the process of completely revamping the podcast feature so we haven't released it yet as part of the doubleTwist Pro app but as you correctly noted a preview is already available for all beta users. We'll be adding more podcast features to the beta in the next couple of weeks and once it's complete we'll update doubleTwist Pro.
DoubleTwist pro can sync from iTunes
doubleTwist Pro supports ALAC. The free doubleTwist Player also supports ALAC, so give it a try first.
DoubleTwist Pro as it can handle my large music library and my podcasts
Then you may like doubleTwist Pro. It is exactly like CloudPlayer, minus the cloud stuff.
