If you have a modern Android phone with NFC you can use this app to read the chip in the Passport. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dexlab.eCL0WN
Practice on your own passport first as it can be a bit tricky to use.
This isn't a perfect check - but it should show if there's a chip and if the information on it matches the printed information.
For bank accounts, the only way you can test if it is his is by telling him you'll transfer a random amount between £1 & £2 and asking him how much he received.
Again, doesn't prove it is his name on the account, just that he has access to it.

You are incorrect. You can extract the image from a passport's chip using an Android phone.
I've done it using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dexlab.eCL0WN
Photo isn't particularly high resolution.
