The Kingdom Rush Series is the king of the genre.
I really enjoyed Epic War TD 2 - $2.99, No IAP. The various towers each feel surprisingly distinct. Despite the graphics, this game is shockingly low-spec. On higher end machines, this translates to low battery consumption. The later levels are pretty tough, but I never felt like the game was unfair. The checkpoint system reduces the frustration level a lot.
CastleMine and Digfender - Free with IAP. A bit of a niche game; but personally I had fun. Even without IAP, I found it a bit too easy. Despite the simple graphics, this game hates your battery.
Tiny Guardians $3.99 and IAP (boo!). Feels kind of like a mashup of Battleheart and a simplified Kingdom Rush. Personally, I find the Kingdom Rush games a bit frustrating; this game is a bit more forgiving of my poor planning.
The Anomaly Series is an interesting take on the Tower Defense genre. In most of the series, you control the creeps instead of the towers. Not recommended for low-end phones.
