Genre: Puzzle, Word
Description: Create clever Sentence+Word combos, and solve puzzles generated from other players' combos.
Play: Web Browser (HTML5) , Android App
Dev Notes: This game is a bit unique in that the puzzles are generated by picking sets of random sentence+word combos submitted by other players. The most glaring issue with this is the fact that some players will submit poor or nonsense combos. To deal with this, the likelihood of a combo being picked decreases based on how poorly it is performing and it's use count. In this way, bad combos get filtered out over time. In early testing, this balance seems to be achieved. In some puzzles, you may get a bad combo. But, if you use clever deduction, you can solve them perfectly more often. Bad combos affect everyone equally. Also leaderboard rankings multiply together your combo-making rating and your puzzle-solving rating, so making bad combos is not a viable strategy for optimizing your overall rating. Ultimately this experiment with community-supplied puzzle content could fail. Some early testers were too frustrated they couldn't solve them perfectly every time, especially if a bad combo dupped them. Others enjoyed the word matching challenge and understood everyone was being "graded" under the same conditions. This game is originally a boardgame idea. The computer version game came about when the boardgame designer, whom I had worked with before, was looking to add a computer game to the Kickstarter.
Feedback Desired: (you can be brutally honest; i can take it.)
How did it run? Any glitches?
Was it easy to learn?
Was it fun?
What do you think of the puzzle generation mechanism using other players' submissions?
Ideas for improving anything?
thanks!
