> You can't upload third party GPL software to the play store since google puts it out under a non-GPL license
Is this new, as I don't see anything if I Google about Play Store and GPL, and others who GPL their code have it in the Play Store. For example https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.casticalabs.forecastie
I have heard that Apple will reject your code if they see that it is GPLed, but not Google.
I completely agree that it doesn't appear that the developer has any idea what they are talking about, for example.

GitHub is not Open Source.
Fair enough, the issue is there are many weather models available, public and private, none are really perfect. Sometimes foreign models are better, sometimes local is better, sometimes the private industry gets it better depending where you are. Even then, it depends. You just have to find what's most accurate for you. If you want to try another Forecastie uses the OpenWeatherMap as a source, no ads.
I've used a few: Yahoo Weather, then AccuWeather (paid) until they started selling user's data, then Weather Timeline (also paid) until I noticed that it was making requests to... facebook servers.
Now I use a very simple and open source app: Forecastie (Play Store and F-Droid).
It uses data from OpenWeatherMap which is accurate enough for the place were I live. I don't care if it's not 100% accurate, after all a 1 or 2 degree difference doesn't matter much when I'm deciding if I have to take my coat with me or not.
Going to try out Forcastie and see how it fairs. It uses openweathermap.org as its back-end.
