I went to korea on vacation a while ago and I was able to type in korean using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.inputmethod.korean&hl=en
I don't know the language so I only used it for offline translation with google translate.
The Google Korean Input application can be used as an IME for Korean and as a keyboard for English, remembering which layout was used last in it, regardless of other input methods. I use it with Memrise without problems.
I'm not on the stock ROM on my Pro 3 so I don't know about the system language, but you can download the Korean Google Keyboard.
There's a Google Korean keyboard, which is what I use. It's a separate package than the normal Korean keyboard. The bad reviews seem to be for older versions that had issues, but for me now it's perfect.
You can go into the settings and make the switcher toggle between the main Google Keyboard for English, and the Google Korean keyboard for Korean, so you get the best of both (keep swipe in English, etc).
It has a selection of Korean keyboard layouts as well.
I'm currently using Google Korean Input and it works just fine to me.
Google's korean keyboard app:

You didn't look hard enough.

See if installing this helps.
Your best bet is probably gonna be the Google Korean Input. Guaranteed to not have malware, etc.
This is the one I had preinstalled.
