The exam is multiple choice, and the same question bank is used to generate both the practice and real exams, so there shouldn't be any surprises.
I personally didn't like doing the online practice tests on IC's website due to how clunky the interface is, and printing out the practice tests is a waste of paper. I found that this Android app is a much better alternative for studying. Avoid ExHAMiner, as it's using a pretty old version of the question bank.
I too had great luck with ExHAMiner, especially with the option to explain the reasoning behind the correct answers.

Someone mentioned in a previous thread that the question set is out of date.
I've never tried, but have see people suggest this phone app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.ve3efc.canadianbasic01
Good luck!!
Thank you! And sure! The main things I did I'll list:
I found a PDF with a great deal of info covering the majority of the Basic questions and knowledge: https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~ehashman/emcomm-ham-radio.pdf It's from 2009 so it's a little old, and doesn't cover everything, but it's a great place to start for knowledge.
I also found http://wp.rac.ca/exhaminer-v2-5/ ExHAMiner a HUGE help (I wish I'd found it much sooner). It not only gives you practice tests, but it also tells you WHY you got a question wrong so you can learn and remember the basics behind it.
If you have an Android phone, I also installed this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.ve3efc.canadianbasic01 Which is helpful when you're waiting around for the bus or whatever and want to practice the questions. I've found you need to hold the phone sideways when using it, otherwise it cuts the questions off.
Other than that, just generally googling things or using the practice tests on the Industry Canada Amateur Radio web page helped. Good luck and hope you get your license soon! It's a good feeling. :D
