There's a fine line between ripping off and inspiring your game on something. However the moment you can say the rip off is better, than it's no longer a ripoff but an improvement in my opinion.
I myself hopped onto the Threes bandwagon with Hexjack, I did do some thing differently though like hexagonal instead of square which greatly changes the gameplay.
My game's Hexjack, a pixel art puzzle game inspired by Threes/Hearthstone. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shimmergloom.hexjack
Here I thought my 630 downloads in 3 weeks was amazing. :'D
I made a picture of my game running on a phone and added that to the pictures because it looked so good in yours haha.
I too love pixel games.
I also love making them! :D
I'm not sure good, but maybe you'll like the one I released in February? Hexjack
Please rip my game apart.
It likes to be called a retro piece of nostalgia shit and it gives you explicit consent to smack it like you mean it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shimmergloom.hexjack
Most of my marketing: /r/androidgaming and /r/gaming However I also did a livestream with an android game review youtuber (3 viewers), who later posted it on youtube.
I posted twice on both and that netted quite a spike as you can see in the new user graph. My game is free though, that might be the reason?

Hi, thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and opinion! I understand my game is definitely a monetary success, but more personal success. That was definitely the primary goal from the start.
To put that a bit in perspective I'm currently a game dev student, so I can kind of afford to have a less than successful game. (I made mine next to January exams, haha.)
I've seen your game pop up in numerous places, reddit, droidgamers, other sites. I wonder how much of an impact those sites make on your install count. As you can see in my new user chart, the big spike at the start is reddit /r/androidgaming. But I can only post there so many times before people will get sick of seeing my game. I've been trying to get into contact with review sites but 95% doesn't respond, 4% sends a copy pasted pay-for-review kinda deal, and 1% responds positively. (droidgamers <3) I wonder if you have any special ways of contacting these people? Obviously having an excellent game like yours helps haha.
Now I understand it's my first game and everyone thinks their game is the best at first, so that has helped me see I have a long way to go.
Overall I consider my exploit in the mobile market a success. (my game is Hexjack by the way)
I've bought both 1 and 2 of Baldur's gate. Personally I enjoy 2 most so far, but that might be because I learned how to play a bit in the first one. Don't underestimate the difference between modern games and this. You'll need to invest some time to get into it.
With that said, maybe you'll forgive a bit of self promotion. Maybe try my game Hexjack? It has a single IAP to emulate a trial version. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shimmergloom.hexjack
Hi! I'm the developer of Hexjack, an android puzzle game published last year. Recently Hexjack won Best Student Game in the Belgian Game Awards 2016!
In honour of this occasion I updated the game with some things I learned since its release.
Battery use has been drastically improved, stuff like Google play games has been updated, almost ever single sprite has had some fixes.
You can show my game if you like, Hexjack. I grant permission.
Maybe you'd like my game, Hexjack?

Add "HexJack" to this list, it's a pretty challenging puzzle game but if you're good at it you can unlock at least a few achievements. Each achievement gives around 10,000 XP.
