As far as familiarizing/reacquainting yourself with the Chinese words what you already know verbally so well, I would strongly recommend you try out the HSK Locker app to learn/revisit the Chinese vocabulary at your own pace and convenience.

To help work with practicing and possibly even expanding your Chinese vocabulary, I would strongly recommend flashcard apps like the HSK Locker app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shex.hsklocker)
I agree with battlestarbeets there. There is no life hack here. No short cuts. To learn to write, you, well, gotta write. But once you know the general rule of writing (meaning, horizontal lines before vertical and strokes etc), it gets easier.
Meanwhile, if you need to help memorizing the words, there's always apps like HSK Locker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shex.hsklocker&hl=en) for you to use for free.
Pronunciation aside, if you want to know the meaning to the kanji words, its pretty much the meaning of the word in chinese. I know of this app called HSK Locker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shex.hsklocker&hl=en), which helps you practice your chinese characters, but I'm not sure how much help that would be in the Japanese context.
Apparently, they also have a Japanese app which is JLPT Locker, but that only deals in non-kanji words. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shex.jlptlocker&hl=en)
For expanding and practicing your current Chinese vocab bank, I'd suggest HSK Locker app on the android platform (although they also have it at chrome store and amazon store). Its basically a free and works-offline flashcard/quiz app that is likely more suited to you since you already know how to speak Chinese.
Alternatively, if you want to start from scratch, you can try out Beginner Chinese app as well.

Chinese has many words with 'flexible' meanings depending on the usage and context. To know which 'arm' to use, unfortunately, you have to learn by experience, by reading mostly, after you have got a few hundred words memorized. There are no shortcuts.
For words, I've used a flashcard/quiz Android app called HSK Locker (re. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shex.hsklocker) that has a built in vocabulary list of about 5000 words from level 1-6 of the official HSK exam (you don't necessarily have to take the exam. I don't) I've come to discover there are many instances where the same word may have two different meanings (or vice versa).
That, coupled with reading simple sentences in children books and online Chinese articles has brought me along to understand Chinese words a lot better then when I was just starting out.
However, firstly, I suggest you memorize a few commonly used words first. By 'a few', I mean a few hundred, a thousand is preferable. And then armed with the knowledge, you can start basic reading and build from there.
HSK Locker app sounds like the perfect app you could try to regain your familiarization with the Chinese characters.
Just to share, I found HSK Locker app to be quite helpful in terms of practicing and expanding my vocabulary.
