My wife is a bird watcher. She will see a new bird, want to immediately identify it, and would not have her bird reference books available. I originally bought this app to help her with her birdwatching hobby.
The iBird app is the best bird reference app I have used after trying many. I originatly bought the iBird app many years ago on the Apple iTunes store and then later bought it again (when I moved over to a Android phone) from the Amazon App store. This was a BIG mistake since I quickly found out that the Mitch Waite Group support is terrible, they refuse to support Amazon customers that paid good money for their app by not offering the later iBird versions. Even today, Amazon is still selling iBird version 2 while Google Play is on version 7.2.
I finally got tired of sending emails to Mitch Waite Group in which they would reply stating they were in the process of updating the Amazon iBird app, I finally gave up. If the Mitch Waite Group is no longer supporting the Amazon App store, they should pull the iBird app from the Amazon app store.
After becoming unhappy with the new Amazon Android App store and relizing that developers DO NOT keep their apps up to date on the Amazon App store, I stopped using the Amazon app store.
After a while my wife missed the iBird app so I was forced to buy the iBird program again, this time on the Google Play store. This makes 3 times I have bought the iBird app. I can understand having to buy it when I changed from an Apple device to an Android device but I should not have to buy it twice on my Android devices. Lesson learned, stay away from the Amazon app store.
This by far is the most expensive app purchase(s) I have ever made...
Not sure why they named it that. It's available on Android, which is what I use it with.
The "bird call" for each species is really fun. I like to play it and see if they look over at me.
If you are in North America, I use iBird Pro Birds North America for bird ID:
