It's a very minor complaint but it is still stop-motion animation lol, while apps like this show each stroke actually being written fully
As an english native speaker, I recommend Human Japanese. They have a lite version so you can decide if it's to your liking or not.

I use Google Translate & Google Maps a lot. Many people like Hyperdia for transit. I like Navitime, but can't speak for the English version.
