Hello,
One of my very close relative is travelling to Korea during the Olympics :)
I would have few questions please :
The App is not working (when I open it there is a welcome screen with 2 button but I clicked on the 2 and the app closes). Will the app work when my relative will be in Korea?
Is there (free?) wifi in Incheon airport or in the KTX between Seoul and Busan?
Is there (free?) wifi hotspots in public places in Korea or in Hotel (I assume yes for hotels)?
My French mobile carrier is proposing 100 Mb for 10€ in Korea. Is it worth it or Free wifi will be enough in Korea?
edit :
is Kakao Map better than Google Maps ? (I assume yes :)
Do you confirm that there is direct KTX trains between Incheon Airport & Busan? (sorry for the stupid question, it seems yes).
Thanks a lot!
Note: All of the Kakao trip apps (except for Metro) will require at least a basic understanding of Hangul.
Kakao Map (Daum Map) is an alternative for Naver Map. This one gives you step by step instructions on how to get to point A to B in an easy to read way. Android / iOS / Site
Kakao Taxi will allow you to hail a taxi and you won't have to worry about a shady dude with the meter turned off! It's especially helpful if you need to get to the airport at an ungodly hour for your midnight run!^/s Android / iOS
Kakao Metro Used to be called Subway Navigation before Kakao bought it. Very nice and simple interface that will help you calculate your trip, tell you information about the stations and even which door is closest to the exit. Android / iOS
Kakao Bus This bus will give you relative timetables of any bus in Korea if you have the route number. You can even set arrival alarms to remind you to haul ass to your bus stop. Android / iOS
코레일톡 is the Korail KTX app to purchase tickets and check schedules with. You can even buy trip packages off the app! Android / iOS
Rieul Korean A lovely dictionary that taps into Naver and Daum dictionaries. Also has a handy conjugation tool, and pronunciation tips. Only downside is the dictionaries require phone service. Android Only
Memrise A really handy tool to help learn Korean, or hell, any other language you want to learn. You can either make your own vocabulary list or choose from one another user has made. Android / iOS / Site
배달통 Another delivery app. A bit easier to read because some restaurants upload photos of the actual menus/menu items. Android / iOS
OTO Free Allows you to use your Korean cell phone plan minutes to call internationally. The only downside is that you can't receive calls on that number. Android / iOS
Coupang Another shopping app similar to Gmarket, but this one has same day shipping on certain items. Android / iOS / Site
Many already suggested the two top map providers. Assuming you are on Android here are the play store links: Daum Maps, Naver Maps. There are some others you can try, but they are not up to the standard. Every telecom (KT, LG U+, SK) has their own map apps on top of that. If you like maps and making maps too, you can try an OpenStreetMap based map like OSMAnd or Maps.me OSM map quality sucks in Daegu, but you can change that if you like. Just sign up at OpenStreetMap.org and put your neighborhood on the map.
