EMT here in Seattle, King county Washington, we have the best rate of survival when it comes to cpr and have been testing different protocols on how to do CPR for a few years. The latest I heard is going back to 30 compressions to 2 breaths @ 100bpm. The worry was that you lose the perfusion when going to the breath and then you have to start the blood moving again which would lose precious moments. They are finding that getting air into the lungs is still important. There is an Android app you might like, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.acidremap.PPPKingCountyEMSProtocolBook it's free and when it comes to registering you can just click that you aren't an ems person but it stays pretty well updated. If I didn't have a pocket mask or some barrier and came up to a person unresponsive and pulseless I would call 911 and do chest compressions until the rescuers came on scene. Good luck, a lot of local fire departments do free CPR / first aid training. I implore you to take a class and learn the proper techniques before trying something you see on TV.
