Hey All! Me again, here to talk about the great new features in Kites (http://kitesapp.com) 馃槑! In case you've missed my previous posts, Kites is an app that helps you find cool places around you, based on what your friends have liked. It does this by letting you leave messages at places on a map. Then, your followers can either browse these kites on their map, or get an alert when they get close to one they haven't read before.
Based on the feedback of our users (mostly you guys tbh), we've added two great features: Collections - so you can group kites together into things like 'The best spots in parks across London 馃拏' - and Kites you leave just for yourself - to remind yourself of something at a place 馃憤
I'd love to hear what you think of the updates so go ahead and download the app now from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockolabs.kites 馃槉
P.S. if you do download the app and like it, please leave us a review - we have been struggling to convert users that like it to users that review it 馃様
For one, I think the app's UI is poorly designed. I would never download it solely off that alone.
Second, I think u/StudentofDuckworth makes a valid point with the chicken and egg problem. It's a big problem to solve, and I think only certain concepts can circumvent this. Luckily for my startup, I was able to realize this early on(About 6 weeks into dev), and build out features that did not require other users to have the app, care about the app, be on a certain platform at all. Only the person that initially downloads the app has to have it in order to get others to engage in its main feature.
It was a tough choice but I'm glad we implemented the solutions and got feedback early on.
Anyways, your app sounds a lot like a similar app called Kites. I would highly suggest taking a minute to download and play around with it. It's gorgeous, executed well, cross platform and does exactly what you are trying to do and more. It just didn't take off for a number of reasons.

I'm liking that a lot of the geolocation based messaging apps are coming around now. Another user posted a similar concept the other day

The best implementation of this that I've seen is Kites, pretty cool app and you should check it out to compare! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockolabs.kites
Kites does this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockolabs.kites
Kites kinda works this way
Cool concept, but very similar to Kites. Are you doing anything different/better? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rockolabs.kites
Kites has a similar idea
