Thanks for sharing. It is impressive that you've come to realize so much in so little time. Never lose that attitude. As Mother Teresa said, everything is a gift. Even suffering.
To stay close to God, besides the sacraments, there's the Laudate app that has the Liturgy of Hours. The testimonies and book reviews on EWTN are great too. Ultimately, you need to find your cross and pick it up. God gave you special gifts that will help bring His Kingdom on Earth as it is in Heaven. It will be a joy for you to put them to use. Not easy, but joyful. In the meantime, make sure to do the Rosary daily and pray for those who need to get as far as you've gotten. Our detractors and persecutors suffer from a lack of grace.
Get the Laudate app it has a lot of latin prayers including the ones on this site
I became Catholic last year. When PBXVI was Pope I made all the stupid Emperor Palpatine jokes just like everybody else did. Since converting though, I've been reading a lot of his stuff and I am blown away not just by how sharp his theology is, but how deep and mystical his devotionals are. The man has not only a keen mind but an amazing heart and you can hear it in his words. That's what I think a lot of people miss -- he's rightfully characterized as a theological genius but he also kept the mystery and the love of God in it.
I really dread the day that PBXVI passes, not only for the loss that the Church will experience but also because of all the people who will immediately start making the Palpatine jokes all over again, who don't know anything about the guy or what he wrote or said.
I've been listening to the "Benedictus" podcast from St. Luke Productions most mornings -- http://www.stlukeproductions.com/benedictus, also available on the Laudate app. It's a reading done from a book of short devotions culled from PBXVI's many sermons and other writings and a great place to start if you want to read more than his Jesus books.
Laudate has several examinations of conscience.
Laudate is what I use most.
Laudate, Truth & Life, Universalis (for daily readings now, hopefully LOTH in the future), and then bookmarked links to the following web pages on my home screen:
A lot of the catholic life is about the community of believers, the parish. Most people only go to Church on Sundays, so I suggest you attend to a Sunday Mass to get a better sense of the spirit of the community. Also, weekday masses don't have some parts, like the profession of the Creed.
There are different rites and forms of liturgy, but in a regular Roman Catholic parish Sunday morning mass what'll probably be seeing is the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite (which is pretty neat). I'd advise you not to use a short or anything too revealing, but besides that, no dress code for lay people. The service is more solemn than in protestant churches, but how formal the atmosphere will be might vary from parish to parish. The important thing to keep in mind is that it's all taken very seriously. It's basically a reenactement of the Last Supper, and when the Priest say the Words Jesus said, what the Catholic Church believes is that the bread and the wine actually become Jesus. So it's the offering of a sacrifice to God the Father, not just metaphorically. To them, Communion is a celebration of the unity of believers in good standing with the Church, so not taking the bread and wine until you're confirmed is very important for catholics, and the respectful thing to do if you're visiting.
Besides that, it's pretty instinctive: stand up when everybody stands up, sit when everybody's sitting, shake your neighbour's hand when everybody's doing it, etc. If you want to know the responses and prayers and when to say it, you can watch a Mass in youtube first (there's an app for that, too), and most churches give you a paper with what you have to say in the entrance, but staying silent is ok, too. If you can, go a little before the service starts. Stay sitting there in silence, take the time to get focused and calm. Try listening with a learner's ears, you might be surprised.
You can also attend a Liturgy of the Hours (Divine Office) to get a quick first impression of catholic liturgy.
Tell us if you enjoy the experience :)
edit: typos
Others had recommend something good, so I will place my vote on Liturgy of the Hours and My daily Bread, but also a few of my choice:
In terms of "on the go", "can be stuffed into the pocket", I use Fulton Sheen wartime prayerbook. It's less of the traditional "colleciton of prayers" and more sniplets of various thoughts from Sheen, Imitation of Christ, Gospel etc. that really help you think. It's A6 size, so it can slip into a shirt pocket. (my daily bread is a bit bigger in size)
If you want something with a schedule, and especially if you go to TLM (but NO mass go'ers are also welcome to use), you cannot go wrong with Divine Intimacy. I have heard that some priests actually use this as a reference when trying to write their homily too. If you want to use it with the Novus Ordo Calender, follow it with the calender provided at http://divineintimacy.larmour.us/
Now here begins the section on electronic, which can be cheaper than the above mentioned solutions
As for websites: http://universalis.com/ contain their own translation of Liturgy of the Hours, while USCCB website have the daily reading. http://divinumofficium.com/cgi-bin/horas/officium.pl contian the 1962 version of Divine Office.
In terms of apps, you cannot go wrong with Laudate, while provide links to the websites above.
Laudate has everything but yea not well designed.

>>136528439 That's nice, many times I hear the Protestants say "oh I want a more traditional and pretty old fashioned church service" They go with the Orthodox because they don't believe in Purgatory, limbo, certain doctrines about Mary, the supreme authority of the Pontifex Maximus ect. It's prety easy to spot those converts though they're pretty smug.
I use the Laudate app a lot. It's a Catholic thing but there's lots of interesting stuff in there.
Yes really! Any sex not within a marriage, AND for the purpose of creating children, is adultery! Therefore an orgy is most definitely adultery! It is YOU who are cherry picking!
See, this is why I keep telling you to read the material. You have to know your subject MUCH better if you want to have a mature debate. If you don't want to go to Mass, I recommend this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aycka.apps.MassReadings&hl=en
You can pick various languages, search the Bible by keyword, choose classic or simplex levels of prose etc. Its a really good app!
All I want is to love my neighbour, and try and ensure nobody ends up in hell. Peace and love brother! God Bless You Gulinn!
